I saw some amazing bands here, most notably The Black Lips, where at the end of their set, one of the dudes pissed into his own mouth and spat it at everyone. Classy. This was a super fun place, and although I haven’t lived in the Los Angeles area for 5 years now, it’s sad to know it’s not longer in existence.

did this place really close? good. the bartender was an asshole. he ripped off me and my friend when we got 2 beers cause he lied about the cost of beers and didn’t give our money back. i try to avoid this place at all costs. even though it’s close to my house i prefer driving over to los feliz/silverlake to grab drinks.

Drove by this place the other day and brought back tons of kool memories. Nevertheless, I saw that they changed the name to labraise or something along that. What the $&$(@! are they thinking is that bra in French. Anyway I must have seen this comming, last time I was there they had a freaking DJ wearing a top hat. Well that says it all another dive bar lost to trendy people and sad attire. Hopefully they keep the kool bands rolling, well it’s been nice knowing you The Scene may you rest in piece. — Fast Eddie Ps I give it two stars for it’s cold shiner bock and yieger mister… Back in the good ol’ days…

I’ve only been here once so far but I’ll definitely be going back. If you’re a fan of dive bars and live music this place is worth a visit. The crowd was a mix between people dancing off beat without a care in the world, wanna be groupies, bands trying to make a name for themselves and artsy fartsies… but you could tell everyone was there just to have a good time & they either rocked out or got trashed watching people rock out… my kind of place.

This place has roaches. Gross. When my friends and I went to order a drink from the bar, a huge roach ran across the bar. The bathroom stalls have roach traps too. The place does get a bit hot. So thank goodness the bouncer is cool about ins and outs. Do not use the photo booth, it is a rip off. The pictures come out grainy and sienna colored. This place has a limited selection of liquors. No Jameson or Absolute/Grey Goose and mix drinks are limited. The DJ did play some pretty good tunes but the live bands were just alright.

Checked out my friends band last night, it was pretty fun. There was no cover, so that’s a plus. There is a decent selection of beers that are priced reasonably. cheap drinks, live music, whats not to like? well although it seems really great, i would probably skip this for two reasons, its too far from me, and its kinda empty. Unless my friends are playing here again, i’d skip this.

Great dive bar, with what was a great first act when we went; terrible second act. Drinks are cheap, pool table needs quarters, and the overall atmosphere was like something out of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Are you indie enough to see these unknowns play their hearts out? Depends on if their music is worth sitting through…

The scene is a little out of the way from the hip indie LA scene, but it’s worth the drive. Bands play their loudest while regulars cozy up to the bar and have fun conversations with the bartender. The Ms. Pacman in the corner by the stage is an added bonus. The drinks are cheap, but there isn’t much variety… don’t expect and of the premium beer and other alcohol you’d find in Hollywood. Also, be sure to arrive early enough to find parking, which is street only. The place is a little divey, but certainly a place I’d recommend for small local bands to play.

I went on a Friday night and I was impressed by the lack of douche-baggery. Although, I didn’t partake in the booze, B had a couple of drinks and they were cheap and strong. There were a couple of bands that I’d heard of from the LBC(the Thingz and the Vooduo.) and two other bands I’m not familiar with. It was a good night and not too crowded. It’s a little similar to Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, it even has a photo booth. There was a screen playing Front 242 videos and footage of Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx getting tats in Japan. I could see visiting this joint again.

okay so, you know those bars that look kinda shady from the outside, but once you cross that threshold your in another state of mind??? Yeah this is one of those places. Large lounge area as soon as you walk in with leather couches lining the wall for maximum viewing of the stage. Right behind that, the DJ/Sound section… bar is located off to the side with both sides open, so no need to swing around to crowd on one side for a drink. Photo booth for some extra kookiness(wonder if they have additional film for those drunk broads) and a pool table to match. There are additional rooms for the bands… aka The Green Room, but on other nights… *ahem* lets just say these turn into some more mellowed out areas of the bar…;o). Down the hall is the back door to a patio area for chillin and smokin, but seriously large… unfortunately I don’t think you can really hear what’s going on inside… I met some random dude James, who turns out, plays bass for a local band called«Deadbeat Sinatra» — he said this is one of his favorite places to play as the sound is awesome and(Dee) checks the sounds really well. I have to agree, at no time was I covering my ears from distortion, but actually hearing each word and enjoying the music as well. According to my boy Bill, there’s never a dull moment as far as music goes… it can totally range from DJ to Punk to Goth or something new… very versatile and totally random… Love it .hell’s yeah… come again… you betcha \m/

I used to live in walking distance to this bar, so I’ll be nice. The bouncers are very cool… but there doesn’t seem to be a need for bouncers, since… NOBODYGOESHERE! Still, the bartenders try very hard, and the booze is usually discounted. You never know what sort of band could be playing here… maybe it’s some piece of shit local or touring act, or maybe it’s The Bronx, or some badass garage band from Seattle. There’s really no telling. The pool table is very nice, but a bit too close to the bar. I’ve never gotten into a fight here. I’ve made out with a stranger or two. Ultimately this is a tough place to have a rock n roll club. Glendale is filled with cops, so people are rightfully afraid of driving drunk. As they should be. It’s against the law and dangerous.

Last night(10⁄10) went to see my friend’s band play(trashed idols) at The Scene. This bar is a good place to see a band, however it is too fancy to even be called a DIVE bar. The bartenders were friendly. There was not a cover charge. Beer is generally cheap. They have an awesome old school photo booth that did not have any film GRRRR:(Would I go back prob not…

We came here with the owner Murray after leaving Verdugo. One of our friends band was playing«The Nightbirds». Unfortunately we had just missed them… I have been here a few times years ago to see other bands play and for the most part from what I could recall was I liked it. Last night was fun. I had a better time here listening to the juke box than I did at Verdugo. They have recently redecorated from what the owner Murray told us. Behind the stage is a big cozy room with long cozy sofas… Very comfy… The only thing that I thought that was odd was The Scenes website. Ummmmm when I clicked on calender there was three cheesy chicks holding up shots of tequila. Yeah. for the genre of bands that play here I would change the website a bit. From the looks of the page it looks like you would be coming to a gentleman’s club(get it). But, I am still going to leave 5 stars for this place. Murray is a rad dude and the drinks are strong… Just the website… Hmmmm no!

watching a show at the scene makes me feel like i’m in that nightclub where Duckie was a punk to Blane in Pretty In Pink. the music? some of the bands that have played are: Panic Movement, Manhattan Murder Mystery, The French Semester, Holy Shit, and Shiloe(all can be found on myspace music). i’ve heard punk, new wave and college radio type music here — all acts have been pretty good. the place is intimate, the bartenders are pretty nice(i joked about ordering a tea once and the bartender went out of her way to get some — in the end i ran away cuz i really didn’t want tea and i didn’t want her to remember my face), and the bands always seem to be entertaining. this is definitely not a hot spot or anyplace you need to dress up to get in. i’m pretty sure it’s called the Scene out of irony. that said, if this kind of place works for you, then i shall see you there. helpful hint: watch the back table near the sound booth — it’s wobbly :(

I love playing at the Scene. The bartenders treat you well whether your a performer or someone looking to drink themselves into oblivion. They run a relatively tight ship when you play there, which is awesome. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been scheduled at other places to play at 11pm and end up playing at 1am. The sound guys are also extremely helpful and don’t give you any attitude for being a girl(which is a big +). I had two cymbal stands stolen from here once before I played. Naturally, I freaked out since we were the last band so I couldn’t beg someone to let me borrow theirs. One of the bartenders, who also happens to do the sound some nights, ended up letting me borrow his(he happened to have his kit handy). He saved my ass that night, and I was totally grateful. One of the bartenders also made me my first ‘red headed slut’. It was definitely lust at first sip…

The Scene is so awesome. It’s a rock-and-roll dive bar in the heart of the most un-rock-and-roll city in SoCal ~ Glendale. This municipality is even less rock-and-roll than, say, City of Industry*. *Where their numerous Gentlemen’s Clubs blast Rob Zombie’s «More Human Than Human» as nekkid womens gyrate their money-makers quite often — or so I’ve been told by my degenerate friends. I will pray for them. The drinks are good and strong. The crowd is eclectic and fun. And the acoustics aren’t the greatest, but the performers can get in yo’ face pretty well. Fellas: if you’re dating a chick who loves rock-and-roll, bring her here and liquor her up. Just remember that you can’t be a p*ssy, or else your date just might be swept off her feet by one of the performers onstage.

I went here last night to catch Von Iva and based on the other reviews I was expecting a total dive. Upon entering, my nostrils were awakened by the entrancing smells of sweat, sweaty hair, and the pleasant aroma of a backed up toilet. Besides these assaults to my olfactory senses, I would call The Scene divey but not a totally skeezy-vomit-on-the-wall-you-wouldn’t-want-your-little-sister –to-go-to-place. You know, like the types of places that I love. I love that it’s dark and tiny. I don’t feel like I’ve really experienced a live band unless I’m close enough to touch them. And touch us, they did! Jillian Iva played a song while straddling my friend in something resembling x-rated gymnastics. Since I left right after the band was over, I didn’t even get a drink. Imagine that! But this seems like a cool place to hang out, catch a show, and spend a night. P. S. If you don’t live in the immediate area, you WILL get lost on the way home. Damn you, 2 freeway!

The Scene is divey, but not scary divey. I dug the jukebox selections(my choices ranged from LZ’s «Going to California» to Hall & Oates’ «You Make My Dreams») and the $ 1 pool table was a) $ 1 and b) well maintained. Also, the bartender was friendly, and generous with the whiskey in my whiskey sour. So yay for that, too.

First of all, this place belies its namesake. The Scene definately lacks that«scene» feeling. I took a heavy drinker here. He took advantage of my press pass and got himself poured a double something clear. I like the bands(booked every night of the week), I like the atmosphere(dark, cozy, just dirty enough). I like the owner and the bartenders. Most of all I like the fact that nobody was sitting around waiting for someone famous to show up. The drink prices are fair, for sure, and they don’t skimp on the booze — just a good place to go see a show for $ 5 — $ 10 like it should be.
