I actually had a bad experience tonight. A very aggressive dancer tried to grope my wife. The first time he tried she scooted away. We wondered if maybe he was just drunk or confused. The second time it almost happened she told him she was married(I was right beside her). Then the third I moved my body in between them to intercept. He grabbed my arms and acted very aggressive so, having bounced years ago, I used my forearm to gently push his chest toward the bar telling him sternly that he needs to give us space. He became more aggressive and I continued to hold ground and move him toward the bar. I hadn’t had any alcohol, so it was all pretty relaxed on my end. Why four stars? Because the club security was really with it, saw what was happening, recognized the body language and immediately intervened to have him removed. The staff and most of the patrons were very friendly and the atmosphere felt safe. Seeing how they handled this unfortunate bad apple I can’t say enough good things about the employees of this club for creating a fun venue that really cares about the people in it.

If I could I would give them 10 stars or more! ************ I love this place: — Great Sound — Great Music and Bands — Great Crowed — Great Bar with variety of awesome beers — Great Outside Patio — The neighborhood may seem slightly shady to some I guess but this is totally not rue, Glendale is one of the most safest cities in LA I have seen many renowned shows, bands, and artist that people around the world must be dying to see, and in this intimate and close proximity! You cannot find anything like this in LA, trust me, it is the best!

We have been here about half a dozen times for the Monday night Ground Control Karaōke and each time we just like it a little bit more. The bartender Alex may only see us once every 3 months but recalls our drinks of choice! We aren’t singers but go to appreciate the many people who are really good. No one is here to pose, or get shit faced. They also have a backyard with some picnic benches to hang out with the smokers as well. I highly recommend it if you want to just be in a social setting and want to relax. Yet if you and your group are precious snowflakes who thrive on drama or attention I’m sure you can find it somewhere else. This crowd is mature(ish) and appreciative of fun so take that vibe in.

Parking is bad so Über or pay $ 10 to park across the street. I came here to watch a friend perform. And after they performed I was bored. My friends and I were looking up other places to go. And then I met Alex. The best bartender ever. He was so easy going and made the best drinks. We ended up staying until closing. This place can surprise you.

This place is awesome the size is perfect for small bands and they have a great bar and they are very attentive doesn’t take long for me to get my drink. The only problem I have is when I was there for a live show I opened a tab and I forgot my card. Now I know it was my mistake but I tried calling numerous times and not once did I get someone to pick up. It was frustrating I called multiple times at different times of the day to see if someone would be there but nothing. It throws me off cause I’m not sure if I should go to pick my card cause I live a good distance a way. So I can’t trust the hours they put up cause no one answers. That’s why I’ll give them 4 stars instead of 5.

Neat venue with a pretty good beer list and an outside area where you can go if the inside gets to real. Not sure where you’d go if the outside got to real. Maybe the outer outside. Hard to say. They had this Anderson Valley gose that I really like, but it’s seasonal so I can’t speak as to whether it’ll be there on your visit.

This place is cool. Been to the karaōke nights and went to a couple metal/electronic shows here. The karaōke nights get packed fyi wasn’t able to sing a song for two hours last time! I like the way it’s set up, has a long counter top with couches and tables. Not the best situation tho for shows especially if there’s moshing going on so be careful. The only complaint I have which isn’t a complaint per say is the alcohol selection. I love fancy/microbrew types of beer but that’s all they have and they are mostly the sour type that I don’t like. Super expensive too for bottles or draft of sourness I hardly was able to drink. They need regular types of beer too! They also don’t have a smoking area so you have to go out to the front but sometimes there’s no ins and outs depending what the event is.

Great drink prices and people! The sound is always good and so is the vibe. Finally a place where we can go hang out inside or outside on the back patio, and the bartenders are actually nice. And if you’re a Game of Thrones fan you’re in for a great surprise.

TAKECASH!!! I bought two beers, and left my tab open. Went back for another two beers and closed it out. Somehow I ended up with three different transactions on my account on separate days for a total of $ 83! I keep trying to contact the venue but no one ever answers the phone.

I came here last year with a couple of friends since they were hosting a release party for Ommegang’s new Game of Thrones beer«Valar Morghulis». They created a FB event page which was quite helpful, where they announced what they would have on tap, their costume contest, and the fact that they would be giving out a collectible gooblet with a pour of the dubbel ale for $ 10. Complex does not seem to be in the best neighbourhood, but it was pretty easy to find and we lucked out with street parking right in front of the venue. We got there early because we didn’t know what the line was going to be like, but thankfully the line was really short when we got there. Getting there earlier, however, did ensure that we got the commemorative goblet – which is important because it turns out they had a VERY limited quantity and ran out very quickly. The event was not very well organised; the costume contest was not announced on FB until the very same day and so most people were unaware of it. And while they did let us into the venue at 9PM, as promised, the crowd became a bit of a clusterf*ck once inside because we all congregated around the bar… and the sole bartender. Because he was the only one dealing with the goblets and the beer pours, it took a long time for people to get their drink. And then we had to find seating! Seating was very limited inside; a lot of people went to the patio outside but because I was lucky enough to snag a small table inside I never left it: P A representative from Ommegang came around later to give everyone a keychain/bottle opener along with Ommegang stickers, which was nice. And after a couple of hours they finally had the people participating in the costume contest come up on stage and be judged. The winners got GOT tshirts, which was also nice. The event wasn’t great, but it was cool to hang out with other GOT fans and of course I loved getting the commemorative goblet.

The owner has a great ear for talent, and is always inviting some of the best dark scene bands here to play. Wonderful cocktails and great selection of beers.

Yay a small venue in Glendale! On the outside it just says«COMPLEX» directly on the wall. They have valet but you can park in the residential streets behind the venue for free. Inside is super small and intimate. Acoustics were GREAT! But no a/c? It was a bit uncomfortable being short in the middle of a sold out crowd there, as it got pretty warm pretty fast. But they have fog machines, a full bar, benches along the sides, etc. I’d def come to another show here.

I went here again(second chances) and all I have to say is, whoever the sound guy was that night is partially deaf. Sure you gotta great sound system but haven’t you heard of «too much of a good thing»? It was so loud it was nauseating and I left early. It was very out of balance. Everything good on tap is out. Love that they got I AM X residency who is amazing live but honestly, I wasn’t interested in coming back after that second one. At least the sound in my first review, it was balanced. But this time, it was wack. I really wanna like you guys.

This place sits on the corner of Sketchy Street and 80s Avenue. If you can’t find it don’t be too bummed. I walked in expecting to see… well I don’t know exactly what I expected to see… but it wasn’t what I found. The«bar» is small and seats 4, the bartender was nice enough and knew his drinks but the rest of the place seemed a little outdated. What I could manage to see(damn this place was dark!) was seating close together and an old playlist to choose from for karaōke songs. The a/c wasn’t really on so it was very hot and stuffy. There was a lot of older music, which I guess matched the crowd since myself and my friend were the youngest there(or at least appeared to be). We put in our request and waited… and waited… and sat through a lot of cringe-worthy songs but after an hour gave up on our song coming up. We put ours in before a lot of the people before us actually even got there but it was pretty obvious they were regulars and they got pushed ahead of us. I don’t know whether to thank or curse Complex for not giving me the chance to croon some Cranberries but when I left, the fresh air hit my face like water on a desert ridden man. Freedom!

Small venue, nice beer, reasonable prices, friendly bar staff too. Not giving more stars for lack of air conditioning. It gets ridiculously hot in there

First time at Complex was Friday night for a Rarities show for VNV Nation. The show itself was amazing, and astounding, but this is a review for the venue, not the band. :) We drove in from Vegas, and stayed at a hotel that was only 6 minutes away… this place was super easy to find! parking, not so much, but it was a pretty busy weekend for other venues nearby, and we found something fairly close, and didn’t have to pay for parking. Hooray! Having been to The Mayan on Thursday night… this place is TINY! It really is not a very big space at all… but you know something? I really liked it! It provided this incredible intimate atmosphere with the band and with the other concert goers. Granted, it made things VERY hot in there, but… once you’re drinking, who cares? Speaking of drinks! Holy heavy pours, batman! The Drinks were about $ 7 a piece(I think. I kept sending my friend to the bar for shots with money. lol)…which really aren’t too bad, considering other places are $ 11 per shot. So not only are the drinks slightly cheaper, but they are also really strong. Worth the money every time. The bartenders that I did talk to(when I ordered one drink, and let someone know that the girls bathroom was dangerously low on TP) were courteous, and super fast. All in all, I really like this venue. I honestly hope that more bands I like come to play out here, and that I can take the trip from Vegas again. I thought the staff was great, and its a cozy little joint. :)

A Sah-weeeeeeeet Intimate Venue For Great Acoustic Sets! SITREP I had a blast here this past Saturday Night when I got to experience a very subdued, and yet hell-raising at times, acoustic-set by Daniel Graves of Aesthetic Perfection and a few of his talented musical friends. This was my first time at the Complex located in Glendale, but I have immediately been swayed by both it’s location and it’s configurations as a dynamic venue for more intimate shows. I have to hand it to the good people of Das Bunker for arranging this evening. THESETUP Daniel and his friends had a workable stage that fit a baby grand piano, a trap set, a stand-up bass in the rear of the gathering, and enough room for Daniel and the guitarist to create some radical musical havoc on the front of the stage. For me it was a dynamic opportunity to be with my stellar friends Krista & Krista as the three of us were close enough to the stage to touch Daniel [and least when drunk-guy didn’t force himself in front of Krista & Krista and acted like a total douche screaming at Daniel.] ACOUSTICS The venue is a great place to experience acoustic sets since the music decibel level is not too overpowering, and yet allows every part of the venue(probably not more than a 100 feet from the stage to the back where the DJ booth is) to hear the same sound whether on the left part of the stage or standing over in the bar area(same room, but separated by a long upholstered bench from back to almost up front). PHYSICALPLANT In fact, for a venue of it’s size, I really was quite surprised how much sitting & leaning opportunities there were in this venue. The one bench mentioned already faces off against another just-as-long-bench-seating arrangement along the opposite(East) wall of the main room. The benches sort of become the physical boundaries of the main room in front of the stage, front-to-back. This is a great place for a live band event that isn’t too insanely crowded but allows fantastic accessibility between the crowd and the band. Some bands in fact may shy away from such close proximity with the crowd. However, Daniel and friends fed off the closeness and the energy of the crowd. COSTS This show which lasted from 9:30pm to 2am was such a deal for just $ 25. I don’t know if most shows are less, or if they charge more if a big name comes through, but this was a fair cost for such an exceptional intimate musical experience. BATHROOMS Nice & Adequate — 2 urinals and 2 stalls! Woo-hoo! That’s high living! [Sorry, can’t speak to the female side of the bathroom configuration-equation.] PARKING No problem! Private lot right adjoining the Complex. No charge, no problem with space. Win-Win. THELOWDOWN Awesome show experienced in a very nice tight venue. My hats off to Daniel Graves & his friends, the good folks of Das Bunker, and the COMPLEX for making such a fun night happen!

I have a FANTASTIC time here, when for their Monday night karaōke and I don’t even sing! The theme of the night was NOPANTS! So I wore shorts while others wore dresses, skirts, kilts and boxers. It just adds another fun element to the karaōke especially when Baby Got Back is sung and a man in a kilt helps«back-up» dance! See what I did there?! ;) So I guess next them is Cosplay in support of upcoming Comic-Con so people can test out their costumes, that is like guaranteed entertainment for sure. Surprised that this place isn’t more packed with how entertaining this event is. It’s every Monday night the doors open at 7pm, but the singing starts at 8pm. Plenty of free street parking and there is zero cover, so more money to spend on drinks! ;) Even though there isn’t as many people early on I would advise going early just to get your song in the rounds. They have drink specials and house made infused vodkas! They were out of everything except for a pepper vodka so I just had a custom drink instead. If you’re a beer drink they have over 30 blue collar beers and craft beers. Be warned that this isn’t your average karaōke, it’s alternative so expect mash-ups and outrageous songs. Just a handful that I remember from the night: The Tra La La Song(One Banana, Two Banana), The Masochistic Tango, Dragonforce — Through The Fire And Flames, Oingo Boingo-Nasty Habits. I was most impressed with this guy who Rickrolled the crowed by doing a mash up of the Rick Astley-Never Gonna Give You Up lyrics set to the music of Blink 182-All the Small Things. The mash-ups are ridiculous and fun, really showing off the singer’s talents. There is just one stage and two mics, so all eyes are on you on as you sing, might be intimidating but it seemed like the crowd was supportive the whole night. It seemed like the crowd mostly knew one another and jumped on stage while friends were singing to back-up dance. The sound system is insane going up to club loud, so I left with my ears feeling like cotton was stuffed in them and shouting to my friend like an old person. Yeas, I guess I am getting old. :/ I don’t smoke but I appreciate the outdoor patio for giving my ears a break to prevent hearing damage. They should string up lights across the top for more ambiance, they can even be LEDs for more efficiency. But I guess the darkness is more suitable to match the blackness of peoples souls on their dark electronica unce-unce-unce days.
