It’s on the slow side with placing orders and receiving them. I call in to order a turkey club(once every few months) They say it will be ready in 10 mins. Walk over for lunch and every time it’s not done and takes at least 30 mins making it. Are they killing the turkey back there??? But I give them credit because I like the sandwich and sweet potato fries.

Apparently, the wait staff only work when the owner is present. I usually enjoy this place. Today, I walked in, the place was practically empty & it took someone 20 minutes to bring me a menu. Then it took another 20 mins for someone to ask what I wanted to order. I should have walked out after the first 5 minutes.

This place is deceiving from the outside. Looks small and a little divey. Inside is huge, as Trump would say. One of the better sports bars I’ve ever been to. Well managed, good food and the staff is trained to perfection. The owner, Sammy, has visited our table several times and is a definite asset to the establishment. We will be back. I only wish we had places like this in Dallas.

Spending the night here and found this awesome bar to watch the game, food is good bar food, service is excellent and Sammy is just a great guy. Had the taco salad, husband had a chefs salad and chicken wings and they were huge.

The food is average and the service has been awful every trip. That being said for a nightlife hangout it’s one of the better places in gallup and I continue to go there for a weekend night out. But for a nice dinner or lunch out I take my services elsewhere

Dear Valerie, I just wanted to thank you for your exemplary service. We were a little surprised when you dismissed my husband’s military id out of hand as valid enough to get him a beer; we were so grateful when you shrugged off the fact that you didn’t recognize it and couldn’t be bothered to look for the birthdate and got his drink anyway. I wasn’t sure how long we were supposed to wait after you brought it before you took our order, so I’m glad I called out to you when you started walking away. Having been on the road for the last 12 hrs, I was a smudge hungry. The fajitas I ordered looked great(food review below) and I’m sure you keep the tables clean enough for me to put my tortillas on, so I’m sorry if it was out of the way to ask you to bring a plate. Anyway, sorry about the low tip. It’s a little out of character for me, but I figured your friends, the regulars, whom you spent most of your time chatting with, probably keep you well taken care of. Overall rating: Food — 3. Beef Fajitas were good, had a nice kick of flavor. BLT was a little dry. Don’t think they even put mayo or anything on it. Atmosphere — 5. Fun and warm. Great sports bar, and one of the few places open on a Sunday night. Service — 2. I’m assuming this isn’t everyone, but as you can see, Valerie left quite the impression.

The place is really cool(sport memorabilia) and probably a really good place to watch a game but the food and service have a LONG way to go… The menu is a over the place and food and service takes for ever. I would call the 4 meals we had edible but not good. I’m not that familiar with Gallup so maybe this is the best place in town but if so, the town is begging for a restaurant with good service and decent food.

Great place for lunch on a weekday, Sammy C’s is a place where can find decent food most days. It’s really hit or miss here. I’ve met some really cool people and had some great pub food here. But other days it’s dull with microwaved appetizers and uninspired cooking. It has one of the more complete bars in Gallup, hard to find Galliano, single malt Scotches and 25 plus beers on tap. Managers and owners will come by and shake your hand. The bartenders are great and have no problem making difficult drinks.

Been here once and never returned. I’m not Native American(code for I’m a white boy), so I did not experience any racism, just poor service and lousy food. Unless you like eating amongst noisy people drinking way too much alcohol, go to a different place. There are a lot better places in town and better places to drink and watch TV. This place is for the Anglo«Movers and Shakers» in town, the so called«Gullupians» who make their living off feeding the alcohol problem in Gallup. Support a family restaurant.

1st& foremost, the service is horrible. It’s not so much a matter of racism [as many of the other reviews would suggest] but a simple matter of the staff being lazy. So don’t expect a warm welcome or as much attention one would expect from a houseplant. 2nd, the food is totally bland. Being a bar, it’s a given to expect bar food. Still the kitchen of Sammy C’s goes above & beyond to deliver bland bar food.

Awesome place! The sports and entertainment memorabilia is incredible. When we walked in Sammy himself greeted us, chatted, showed us the building and told us the history. Food was great. What a find in historic downtown Gallup. Going back tomorrow.

This place is a real find, great memorabilia, and Sammy is a treasure. Food is good, I had the Jalapeño bacon burger, and it was great.

Prepare for consistently poor service unless you happen to show up during off hours. You won’t be greeted or shown a table. Fend for yourself. If you happen to order food, prepare for a mistake to be made. Order something simple. I’ve walked out more than once. Why I go back is because the food is actually decent when the order is correctly taken.

I have never been to this place and 1st impression was not great, the hostess stopped us without a smile and said, «kids can’t sit at the bar» which was weird cuz we were childless, turns out the kid belonged to another table. I felt segregated and judged because of my brown skin and immediately felt uncomfortable, once we sat down the bartender ignored us and proceeded to wipe down the fridge. I live in the east valley of az, I am not used to being treated in such a poor manner. I am used to being catered to and at least treated like a human being. Right away our ID’s were demanded up front and all I ordered was a coke. the décor was plentiful and the place was clean, however the staff and rude bartender totally made it akward. we finished our sodas and asked for the check. Im glad I don’t live here and back to the big city where people are actually NICE. and just to show how nice I am still tipped $ 5 bucks, get it together people not All Natives are drunks!

Yes we stopped here with 4 teenagers, 2 children and 2 road weary adults on our way from Taos, NM on our way back to San Diego, CA! It looks just like the pictures — the wall of sports fame has more memorabilia that a sports museum — very impressive. An incredibly diverse menu — from spaghetti to burgers, to meatloaf, you name it, they had it, which had me a bit skeptical. I was surprised that everyone’s dish came out looking very yummy, even more pleasant considering it was well after 9p when we arrived. Ambiance — well it is a sports bar, with the bar area adjacent to the dining area, so at that late hour the bar had kicked in and was a bit loud, but to be expected. The cons — they were training a new waiter on our table — so all his inexperience was upfront and present — but at least he was trying. Lastly — my dish — a side salad AND a cup of their chicken noodle soup was the very last to come out. In fact, it took 10 minutes to arrive after our entire party was serviced. I figured he forgot to submit it, and they had to make a fresh salad and heat up some more soup. Once I got it it was good. Would I come back — probably if it is on the way. The food was good and the sports memorabilia very impressive!

Mediocre service from male bartenders. Female bartenders are more attentive. Val is an exceptional bartender. Service depends on what night bartender is working. Proceed with caution.

What a surprise in downtown Gallup! My friends and I were driving back from Albuquerque to Phoenix and wanted a place to stop and watch the early NFL games. We took a chance in Sammy and were pleasantly surprised. The place is a treasure trove of sports memorabilia. Plenty of high quality TVs. The food was excellent. I had a jalapeño bacon burger. The beef was well seasoned and very tasty. Sammy was there and made a point of greeting and talking with all of his guests. I will definitely stop again when I am in Gallup.

Yeah not my fave. Food is middling bar food at best and the ambiance is like a 1980s TGIF or Ruby Tuesdays. As with many Gallup bars they can appear a bit racist when dealing with Native customers(even from Native staff). But the place is still popular for some reason.
