I just tried it today, since there are not much Hong Kong style food around in Flushing and the area. While they are not offering baked rice today, I ordered curry chicken on rice, pork chop on spaghetti and cream chicken on rice. It was a disappointment to discover that they were not Hong Kong style at all, not even close. They were just Cantonese style food, not even close to the HK styles. Despite its style, their food they are OK, they just like most other Chinese fast food take out place. If they are not promote as HK style I will give it at lease a 3 stars, but as HK style it can only earn two stars from me. In summary, if you are looking for Hong Kong Style food as I am, you can skip this one.

Do yourself a favor and TURNAROUND… The bubble tea, IF you even call it that, is overly sweet and not drink-able. Sorry, but I thought I purchased a drink, not a cup full of sugar… And I do not want to die of diabetes in the remote future… This place is just prying on young college kids who don’t know what real bubble tea is. Location is great but food/drinks is just not meant to be for humans… If you truly want to treat yourself RIGHT, hit up: . They will show you how a baked pork chop over rice is really supposed to taste like. Oh, and you can thank me afterwards… Doing this pay it forward thing :)

This place hits me in all the right spots. Each time I come here, I leave a little bit happier. It’s inexpensive, delicious, and a cozy spot to have a meal or to order take out when you don’t feel like cooking. Ever since this spot opened, I no longer have to travel farther for some decent Chinese! My recommendations are their Singapore noodles and Beef Chow Fun. My boyfriend is a big Beef Chow Fun fan and when I took him here for the first time, he was impressed. This is the only spot he’ll get this dish now. They also go above and beyond to prepare your order fast and they take pride in serving their customers. With that said, I’ve found the service here to be great. I’ve seen a cranky customer with crying babies snap at the server, but the server handled herself gracefully and thanked the lady for her patience… she ended up coming back and tipping her! My only wish — they sometimes close earlier in the night when I’ve just started to work up an appetite for some Singapore noodles. Those nights, I definitely sleep a little less sounder knowing what my stomach could be having. Until next time Hi Tea :)

Meh is all I can really say about this place. Food is typical but the drinks here are mediocre. For a place that has«tea» in the storefront name I expect the bubble tea to be good. I wouldn’t waste my money here on the drinks. I can go to tea shop on Union/Horace Harding for that.

Price: I think the price is fair for it location(1– 2 block away from St. John University and it is located at Fresh Meadows) Food: i will give 5 out of 10. They are basically the same sauce and the only difference is the ingredient such as noodle, rice, beef, chicken. Service: 8 out of 10, most of the time the cashier will say hi to me with a friendly smile but sometime she get very busy and forgot the greating. Drink: I think the bubble tea are too sweet but I love their honey w/lemon tea. That is the only drink I will order in that store because it sound healthy and it is not too sweet.

Michelle, If you are reading this, know that I totally regret taking you here for your first bubble tea experience. I should have taken you to the bustling streets of Flushing, where bubble tea options are endless. Next time, I will personally drive you there. That being said, I don’t recommend the bubble tea here – it is Chinese bakery quality, at best. If the name of the shop has«tea» in it, shouldn’t they have«higher-quality» means. When it comes to bubble tea, I don’t expect organic and made from scratch because the majority of them use syrups anyway but I sure as hell was disappointed when I saw all the colorful powders in the back, waiting to get in my stomach. I got a Strawberry Milk Tea and it was so pink, might as well drink Strawberry Milk. Throughout the whole time, I swallowed little chunks of powder and it felt like I was eating some Pixi Stix, only Pixi Stix tastes much better. I felt bad for my friend Michelle, too, because she tossed her drink out half way. Imagine your first bubble tea experience was a bad one, it’ll stay with you forever. $ 2.75 was definitely expensive, given that I pretty much paid for strawberry powder and powdered milk tea. FYI, they aren’t ferociously shaking your drink up so it gets cooler faster – they shake it so the powder/syrup dissolves.

168 Hi Tea is your typical Hong Kong styled café. From hot order to make sandwiches, chow mein, fried rice, and macaroni in soup to bubble tea. Yet what you don’t know until you go in is that due to the bad inventory choices you can’t get a third of the things on the menu. Having just gotten out of school and not wanting to go all the way to Tea Shop I decided to go and give 168 Hi Tea a try and may I say I will never go back. First of all they didn’t have half of the things on the menu, which was quite disappointing because I wanted macaroni in soup but settled for chicken egg drop soup instead. Second when I got my soup«to stay» she handed me a large container of soup and a plastic spoon. I don’t know about you but I can’t drink burning hot soup right out of the container and a large one to be exact. So I asked the lady for a small bowl, and she was all what? a small bowl? and calls me annoying in Chinese while sucking her teeth. Third I hope you’re not planning on ordering coffee, because the coffee is not fresh! She even questioned her customer’s choice: r u sure? it’s not hot and it’s quite bitter.“ Well overall the soup was decent, and I won’t come back.

I ordered a baked porkchop rice with tomato sauce, instead I got a order of porkchop that had a sauce that I can swear is ketchup on top. Also the item was not baked. This is the worst restaurant ever and I will never step into this place again.

Fantastic food within walking distance of my house — we used to drive all the way out to Flushing to get our Chinese takeout from there(from actual restaurants, not little cafes or takeout places), but ever since this place opened up, we now only go out to Flushing for dim sum, Shanghai-style food, or sit-down dinners(which we have done less of, since this place is so close at hand). Their hot and sour soup is, hands down, the best we’ve ever had, and the Singapore-style rice noodles are amazing and as authentic as it gets; it’s the first place we’ve tried that makes them spicy enough for our taste. Their pan-fried noodles are also very good, although their beef has a tendency to be tough. Fantastic fried rice, as well — I like their Yeong Chow fried rice very much, although I wish it was very slightly more burnt in texture. Their more typical take-out dishes, such as General Tso’s Chicken, are not to be beat — they don’t overbatter their meat like most take-out places tend to do. Great service, very quick — and they are open to doing custom orders. If my memory serves me correctly, their chef actually specializes in Szechuan cuisine, despite the shop being in the style of a Hong Kong tea café.

Since Tea Shop closed down, this place is a decent replacement for those days when you’re craving for HK-Style Baked Dishes. Definitely not as good as Tea Shop was, but it’ll suffice. The last few times I’ve been here though, they couldn’t make a number of things on their menu due. Credit cards are accepted, but with a $ 10 minimum.

I came here 9 – 10 ish one night with my boyfriend. The place looked like they were closing up(the chairs were all on the table, the floor was being mopped, etc.) but they were actually still open. There’s a nice selection of food with a good variety to boot. The staff is super friendly and the service is prompt. Like another reviewer said, they do offer delivery(with a $ 20 minimum) and accept credit cards(with a $ 15 minimum).

This is an interesting place and it’s unfortunate that they recently opened nearing the end of the semester, given that I’m studying across the street. Overall, it’s a decent place to go to just for something quick and alright-priced. I’ve had a chance to taste two or three of their dishes and they’re just typical Chinese food dishes but I can’t really bash on the quality since there isn’t anything notably bad about them. I haven’t encountered any issues with the food so far. The wait time on any regular rice dish isn’t long at all so there’s no harm there. With regards to the bubble tea, I’m not one to usually go for flavored bubble teas so I can’t give any review on the various flavors. Instead, my preference for any place that serves bubble tea is the regular milk bubble tea. Now depending on where you go and how you like your tapioca, your opinion of this place will vary. I personally like tapioca that’s cooked all the way through which means its soft. The denser tapioca leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I’m glad the tapioca here is soft. The milk tea [and milk bubble tea] is prepared on a as-ordered basis rather than places like Quickly or Kung Fu that have it pre-made and ready to go when you order. With that being said, the flavor will be a little different each time but it’s still good in my opinion and I’ll take a large cup of milk tea here over a tiny drink at Starbucks for the same price. You can tell the people running this place is new to the restaurant business because they’re still trying to figure out proportions for their food and stocking with regards to how much ingredients they need to have at a particular time. There is a possibility that when you go in for bubble tea they may not have any more tapioca but don’t be discouraged, they will have it later in the day, or the next day if you stopped in late. I’ll give this place a chance to get better since they’re all really polite and friendly inside. I’ll definitely go back and be a regular for the milk tea and I’m confident they’ll figure how to get things going really well in no time.

I was so excited to see a Hong Kong style café open up near my neighborhood, but given the variety of mediocre Asian food places around St. Johns University, you shouldn’t get your hopes up too high about this one either. For a place called«Hi Tea», it was disappointing to see that their tea isn’t really all that good. I ordered the small mango bubble tea for $ 2.75 and it was overwhelming sweet. The bubbles were also too soft. I’m guessing that bubble tea is not really its forte, but I’m willing to give this another shot. Maybe their Hong Kong style milk tea will be better(which ranges from $ 1 – 2, depending on the size). According to its menu, it seems to offer HK style dishes such as baked macaroni and curry chicken. Their prices are higher than those in Flushing, but I have yet to taste them. They also offer an all day Hi Tea Combo for $ 4.50, which includes satay beef in soup with choice of mei fun macaroni, spaghetti with ham, or spam omelette +butter toast and a small hot drink. Even though the bubble tea was underwhelming, they also offer HK style crushed ice drinks, milk shakes, smoothies, frozen yogurt, and shaved ice(which is hard to come by in the area)! There’s free parking in the rear. They do offer delivery, but $ 20 minimum. $ 15 minimum for credit card use. I’ll definitely be coming back here to try the dishes, but I wouldn’t really recommend the bubble tea.
