The food was not bad, but my review is for the service. They have the worst service. There is one lady working the front of house and she barely speaks English. She makes you feel rushed and did not even bring water. After 5 minutes of trying to get her attention(we were the only party there) I had to walk up to have her give me a glass of tap water. Disgusting. She gives you the feeling that you are not welcomed there. I later asked for an orange soda and she did not know what I was talking about, so I had to get up and go to the fridge and grab it myself. I really wish they can hire someone who offers better service.

One star only for the service and also the fact that I think they rip people off… we ordered basically lamb skewers, fried rice, beef with green onions and white rice on the side… the white rice we never got it so we asked in the end to just remove it from the bill when the lady came back the Villegas in Chinese and it was for 69 bucks! No way can 3 dishes come out to 69 bucks. Be careful with what you order and make a note of the prices so I’m the end you can calculate it against their bill.

I got the veg chow mein, veg fried rice, veg mu shu, and onion pancake. All without eggs because of my vegan brother. The chow mein noodles were pretty tasty, but i wished they added a bit more broccoli. 3.75÷5 The fried rice was very clumpy and sticky; reminiscent of lotus sticky rice. Slightly flavored with soy sauce. 2.5÷5. Mu shu pancakes seems handmade but it was thick and chewy. The mu shu itself was a bit plain. 2⁄5. Onion pancake was fresh, hot, and a bit crispy but thick. Wished they added more onions. 3⁄5. The food was veganized so I’ll give them a higher rating because I don’t want to give an unfair review on flavor.

The 5 stars is for the food, and I am hoping by leaving 5 stars the restaurant will survive longer so I can come back. The price is very reasonable. For 2 ppl, I only see $ 24.45 on the bill which is amazing. I was going to order more foods in the beginning, and the owner stopped me because she thinks that will be enough for 2 which she is correct. I like honest ppl like that.

I use to go here regularly cause it’s halal and would spend close to $ 100.00 but I’m not going to be coming here no more. Here is the reason why, I order 5 dishes and when I had got home she had given me 2 of the same dishes and didn’t give me what I had originally Oder we went back and told her she said no no I’m right that she gave me the right order! I told her no it’s wrong she wrote it in Chinese so I couldn’t even read it but I know what I ordered because each one of my sis asked for a specific order and had Chinese food many times. Anyways the lady is rude and the fact that I’m a regular customer and she refused to fix an order that they made a mistake on is just wrong! She basically said no your wrong and that she is right! But if you want a horrible service then go here. And I just found out that they are not halal they just only have that to get customers. Anyways I just think it’s all wrong and this will no longer be a restaurant that I would be recommending anymore!

Bad service. Mediocre food(quality). I truly don’t think it’s halal n the they r not certified. If u have no where else to go n u r starving from the apocalyptic era then yes its a last ditch option.

The food is great with large portions. I love the hot sauté fried chicken the best. The service is the worst you’ll get. Seriously, the worst lol. Be careful, MANY times they will overcharge you on your receipt(which isn’t written in English so it may deter you from double checking, but just ask and they will go over it with you). Also, once my sister was in a rush and accidentally gave a $ 50 dollar bill for an order that was less than $ 20 and only realized it after she drove away. She was surprised they did not stop her while walking out to say you forgot your(over $ 30) change and preferred to keep it instead. I’m afraid to say the owner is cunning as hell so be careful. But … great halal Chinese food!

This restaurant is such a gem that most patrons don’t even realize what they’re getting with this special place. The noodles are HANDMADE! The sauces are exceptional and the dishes are made exceptionally well. I especially love the Black bean noodles Jia Jia Mein. I love this hidden jewel of a restaurant!

The food is so so. The service is really bad. I hear the waitress yelling at some one in the kitchen and argue with a customer with a dish. We the the onion pan cake but it is only ok. The interior of the restaurant is dirty and messy. I also have the sea food clay pot and it is too sweet. house noodle is ok. However, with average food, bad interior, bad service, I will not come again! By the way, it is cash only. Also I do not think they are Hala at all. Chinese I think. Also they leave the door open, I feel the food is all cold and it is not even warm today.

Preface: This review is in DIRECT response of some of the extremely offensive and prejudiced and dare I say hateful? reviews before me.) ALSO: THISPLACEISHALAL. IT’S A 清真(Qing Zhen(Chinese Muslin or HUIMIN) RESTAURANT. And newsflash: they don’t need the business of anyone who won’t take their word that it’s not a Halal restaurant. Stop being so parochial! Also, to other Muslim patrons who don’t tip, TIP. Don’t be assholes and TIP as you would in any non-Chinese restaurant. Stop saying, ‘This isn’t right or that isn’t right’ if you’re going to come AGAIN the next day to this restaurant. Yeah… people notice… In any case, there are 10.5MILLION of us ETHNIC Chinese Muslims INTHEWORLD who don’t eat pork and only ‘Halal’ i.e. QINGZHEN 清真 food, so stop insulting us and our culture. I’m mildly astounded at the amount of times a great Chinese restaurant is rated so lowly. If you don’t like authentic Chinese food or the ‘service’ then quite frankly don’t eat at Chinese restaurants. In any case I’ve been going to this restaurant since I was kid(both the previous one and now this one when the chef and new owner, previously a waitress at the old location, opened the restaurant at this location when the previous owners retired). Love the 炒饼,牛肉xian饼 ‘Chinese hamburger’ as well as their 葱爆羊肉。 Also: the service is ‘slow’ because this is a true family run business and there are a lot of people who come. And to be quite honest I probably shouldn’t be even writing this review. Why make my own food ETA even look longer by giving information to American(immigrants) of non-Chinese descent, many of whom likely aren’t even appreciative enough of Chinese cuisine!

Their cash only deal is skeptical… probably to hide from the government how much their really making! When we do order-we spend a lot of money-we afford them good business revenue! Last time we ordered I announced that we had no cash, only ATM-they refused our business! Are you serious-we’re probably one of their most consistent customers… we love the hot and sour soup and quite frankly it’s very close/convenient. They should be concerned that their doors will shut with their lack of halal certification, cash only antics and lack of up-dates to the interior!

This restaurant really needs some update. Got cut by damaged table. Spicy beef noodle and Mandarin beef noodle are okay. Need more meat! Fried dumpling is big, but not great. Green onion pancake is so-so. Prices are a bit on the expensive side… except for the green onion pancake.

The sesame bread with green onions has many layers and is the perfect texture. I love it even now than that of Darda’s. And, it’s baked fresh to order! We also ordered the chef special lamb(it was like cumin lamb at other restaurants) and a preserved vegetable beef soup. The lamb dish was delicious although it could use some more lamb pieces and less jalapeño peppers. On the other hand, the soup was great for a cold, windy evening. This restaurant is not the cheapest Chinese food around, but it is decent. –1 star for the service. The owner really tries to accommodate everyone but it takes a while for her to get around to you. My family and I had to wait 25 minutes for a table that could seat 3, even though there were other tables that were available.

NOTSUREIFITISHALAL!!! We walked in for the first time one hot day and the owner said ‘Please close the door’ as it was a very hot day. She said something like, ‘please have a seat’ and spoke with us. My wife insisted I confirm it is halal so I went to her and asked if they have a Halal Certificate, she said ‘maybe in the future.‘ Here is the interesting part! I asked her where she gets the meat from and this is exactly what she said word for word. «No English, don’t worry about it, no English, no English.» Every time I looked at her she turned around and said«no English! don’t worry about it» all stressed out. LOL!!! Brothers and Sisters, just because you see pictures of the Kaba on the wall does not make it halal. Please do not be simple minded and put haram in your systems or your children and family because you can’t control your base animalistic appetite. I even believe the license on the door is for a completely different registered business name. Look on the door yourself. I think it’s all marketing to pull some naïve Muslims in to collect some serious $$$. Go and ask where they get the meat and verify it. PLEASEONLYGOTOCERTIFIEDHALALRESTAURANTSANDMARKETS!!! Lately I haven’t been a fan of Chinese food but Muslim Eastern House has changed my mind! I’m very particular about how the meat I eat tastes and even though I only eat halal food, even at halal restaurants I sometimes end up choosing seafood dishes because of the lack of freshness of the meat. MEH is super fresh! My favorites are: House Beef; which is beef stir fried with peppers, onions, and basil, SOGOOD, and the Pan Fried Shrimp; shrimp with a very light sauce with broccoli on the side. The ambiance is lacking. They could definitely use a remodel ASAP, but I never dine-in, so its whatever. They only accept CASH, so beware!

This place is awesome. Everything we had was delicious. Service is terrible, but that’s to be expected. You are asked to grab your own sodas out of the soda case. The hand cut noodles are to die for. The beef patties are full of flavor The baos are juicy and steamy Everything is made to order. It’s an awesome locals spot. My guess is that non-locals tried to go and didn’t know what to order or didn’t understand the«chinese restaurant» experience(as opposed to the chinese american restaurant experience”). You are definitely getting the former, but you’re also getting food that’s as tasty as your grandma made it back home.

Muslim Eastern House was all covered up. no menu shown. took a chance. once inside, décor seem similar to previous chinese tenants. Muslim Eastern offers muslim chinese food, not mid eastern. only one patron present. menu: soups, mains, noodles, entrees, lunch specials eats: lunch special, beef in cumin w/soup/rice(6.25) –very spicy with strong cumin and slight chili hotness. onions, bell peppers in mix –beef tender, rice lumpy –soup bland broth with onions, egg flower, tomato, and bell peppers? no taste of msg. 3.5 stars 4 stars for value. take outs: –prep took maybe 15 minutes, it seem. –no checkins, pot of tea on table. –regular menu not pricey

My brother and I have a theory about restaurants in Taiwan(if you’ve been there, you know): The dirtier the restaurant, the better the food. At Muslim Eastern, the same is true. It’s not very easy to find great and cheap Chinese food in my hometown(Pleasanton) — you always have to go to either Oakland, Fremont, or Milpitas. I visit home about once or twice a month, and oftentimes we drive all the way to Fremont just to eat here. This stuff is AUTHENTIC. Huge portions with very fair pricing. You know that if Asian parents love it, then the food must be excellent. My top 2 dishes here are the green onion pancake(葱油餅 — not too hard and not too greasy) and the large sesame and green onion pancake(蔥油大餅 — yummy, but I prefer the crispier and more flavorful ones at Darda). Pick one of these, and you’ll have the perfect carb pairing with your meal! As for the other dishes… The Chinese«hamburgers»(牛肉餡餅) are so juicy and so flavorful. The beef noodle soup(牛肉麵) is also super flavorful with satisfyingly tender beef. It’s not too salty, which I love! I’m taking off a star for the service/cleanliness and I am tempted to take off more, but I want to emphasize how Dong Lai Shun’s food quality eclipses its poorer aspects. If the table isn’t cleaned the way you like it, just let them know. They’ll apologize and wipe everything down again. My mom asks them to do so every single time. Overall, the service can be slow(especially during peak dinner time, which is basically 6pm-8pm), but the food is cheap and authentic. Stop by if you have a group of family or friends who would enjoy a real Chinese meal!

Move over, Darda! Well, kinda. The two menus are comparable in their offerings but here’s what I liked more at each place: DARDA –pancake(even though it’s harder) –lamb with green onions(Muslim Eastern’s were fatty pieces and very few) –knife-shaved noodles MUSLIMEATERN –sauteed string beans(way more garlic) –cumin lamb –Chinese hamburgers(drink the juice that comes out!) The house special mushu was similar but the wraps here are thick like Mission tortillas, frankly a bit too much. Service is pretty slow during busy times. They got some of our order wrong – swapped out two lamb dishes for the beef versions. I’m guessing the waitresses were the daughters of the owners; one had some attitude which is surprising for a server who is not a 50+ year old woman from China.
