The quality of the food overall met expectations. However the food is completely overpriced for what we received as well as the size of the portions. The service was slow too and I found it awkward to have our dinner drinks served in plastic cups.

Excellent authentic Germany food. Charming Bavaruan style tables and look of quaint German restaurant. Love all the décor and you fell like you’re really in the Getman countryside. Small place so room is limited. Clean and delight full atmosphere. Food is delicious but wish they would add a few more menu options. Many of the staff are German and all if the staff is very friendly. I love the German bell that rings as customers enter. We eat here every time we visit Fredericksburg. I miss this little slice of German heaven already. GUTENAPPETIT!

Solid German food in a simple, pleasant and authentic environment. The potato salad was excellent, sausage pretty good. Service was polite but a little slow. Minus .5 star for not taking Visa. There are too many Unilocalers saying they are cash only — that’s not true because apparently they do take American Express and Discover. But that rumor threw us off, and we almost didn’t eat here because of that. After making the rounds at The Nest and Otto’s(both closed even though they were supposed to be open!!), we were just glad to find SOME decent restaurant that was open on a Monday night in this crazy town!

Cozy atmosphere, but honestly wasn’t terribly impressed by the food. They came on plastic plates, which was a bit strange for a sit-down serviced restaurant like this one. Additionally, my bf’s knife was wobbly. We weren’t too hungry, so we ordered the the pork chop and bratwurst with saerkraut and potato salad. I felt like the bratwurst wasn’t anything special, and the pork chop was decent. The sauces were good. Was surprised the potato salad was sweet, but I liked it. One of the servers was dressed in a German dress! They don’t accept Visa nor Mastercard though, and I fortunately had my Discover card.

My GF and I had an early dinner here on a Saturday. They were pretty busy but we were seated quickly. The service was very good, attentive but not hovering. My GF had the jäger schnitzel(wild mushroom and wine sauce), Both she and I really liked it. The main dish came with red cabbage and the chef’s choice of potato of the day. I had a Picata schnitzel(sauce of tomatoes, basil, herbs). It was awesome. We both enjoyed each other’s dishes. There seemed to be quite a few local people eating there, which we believe is a good sign of a local place. I am not an expert on German food, but I say Der Lindenbaum is a winner!

First time here was on 2÷14÷16, after all my visits to Fredericksburg. The place is cozy and intimate. The schnitzel(Jaeger and Zwiebel) and gravy was superb! The potatoes were different. Not bad different though. They were slightly sweet with at touch of something I couldn’t put my finger on. Very good. A couple of minor negatives: 1. Don’t take Visa & Mastercard, as many have said already. 2. They only have ranch dressing… bottled ranch(yuck). Ask for balsamic & oil and they’ll bring you carafes of it.

Plastic disposable glasses??? really have they ever heard about the environment? and coffee-mate with the coffee? The food was ok, potato salad was really just sweet mashed potatoes with something else in it, certainly not warm German potato salad. The sauerkraut tastes like its from a can so it was fine at least better than the potato salad but the sausages were good, I doubt homemade but good all the same. Overall I would rate it similar to Denny’s but it lost a star over the glasses and coffee-mate.

If you are looking for authentic, rich and fresh German food, this is THE place. This is my absolutely favorite German restaurant in Central Texas — we eat here every time we come to Fredrickburg. The restaurant is in a small house on main street, with the dining area comprised of a few tables in one room. Think dinner at your German aunt’s house(if you had a German aunt…) My wife and I tend to split the large salad and the Hungarian goulash. She sops it up with the bred basket of sliced rye bread. Having traveled quite a bit in Germany for work(mostly Munich and Frankfurt), the food is authentic, fresh and generally excellent. It’s mostly meat or sausages in rich gravies — so be prepared for a heavy meal. This is German food. Bring cash — cash or checks only.

First time I have ever been to Fredricksberg Texas and seeing how this is a German town, it was fitting to get German food. We had asked around and were told this place was the most authentic so we had to try it out. The food was good but the service was a little lazy. There were only 3 ppl in the restaurant and it seemed like it was a chore to serve us. ALSO, they don’t accept Visa or MasterCard. Thankfully we had cash. Kinda weird.

Great schnitzel and beer. The cakes look beautiful. They do not take Visa or MasterCard, only discover and American Express. The wiener, jäger, and ziggenner schnitzel are all great. The potato salad was oddly sweet, and the cabbage had too much clove. Good service

Very good. Very authentic German food. Even the waitresses were German. How do I know? Well they had the accent and that would seem like a weird job skill to have to learn. So I’m gonna go with, they’re German Anyway I ordered the Burgermeister, which is a dish with three different types of sausage, German potato salad and a small salad. I can’t believe I ate the whole thing. It was a lot but I managed. My only complaint about the food was that it seemed really salty to me. However that may have just been me as everything seems to be really salty to me lately. Very enjoyable atmosphere. They even had Gluhwein, which if you’ve ever been to German Christmas festival you know what that is. Brought back good memories as I was stationed at Ramstein back in the 90’s. I recommend this place. The inside is a little small however they have outside seating. But you may want to make a reservation in the winter.

This place is for the tourists. The food is okay, but nothing I couldn’t recreate with a trip to the local H.E.B. grocery store. There are no German desserts for those of you with a sweet tooth. As others have commented, Visa and MasterCard credit cards are not accepted, Amex and Discover are. Very odd in this day and age. We will eat elsewhere the next time we visit town.

Great schnitzel, sauerkraut, and sausage. When there, ask if they have the burgermeister as the special. Three different wurst(sausages) with sauerkraut, German potato salad, and spicy mustard for the wurst. Awesome! Hubby likes the Jaeger schnitzel. Cutlet with a mushroom sauce. With red cabbage and the potato salad. Good down to the last bite.

Delicious, authentic German food. We all 4 devoured our meals with nothing left to show on the plates! Run by cute little German ladies who are super friendly. Beer and wine selections. Only downside is no credit cards… hey DL, join 2015. But I would come back here next time I’m in F-burg!!!

Perhaps it’s because I’ve never had German food to compare or the fact that I like my food to not be sweet. I ordered the jäger schnitzel because I saw the mushroom sauce. It came with a warm potato salad that was sweet. The mushroom sauce was sweet. The schnitzel was alright, dry. The three star review is for my boyfriend’s food. I had a few bites from it. It was that day’s special. 3 different sausages. I liked two out of the three. I can’t remember the names, the waitress said it really fast. If you want to try this place, I’d say stick with the sausages. Dont order the schnitzels. They serve drinks(water) in clear plastic cups. The hostess wasn’t friendly. We didnt get a smile from her. And I said thank you anyways when she seated us. Still nothing from her. They accept AmEx, no Visa or MC.

Amazing German food! I ordered a side salad with their house dressing. The dressing was so yummy and unlike any I have ever had. My mother and I shared the Jäger Schnitzel and Goulash for entrees. They were both full of flavor and the servings were huge. Loved the mushrooms on the Goulash. Their potato salad was really unique and tasty. Service was just okay and they don’t have too many beer and wine options. I would go back for the great food though!

Went to Fredericksburg because it is a German heritage town. I love German food. Roland, our SegwayNation in San Antonio tour guide, told us we HAVE to go to this place. This little place is run by, you guessed it, a German chef. She has some awesome recipes. My wife had the Reuben sandwich with German potato salad and sauerkraut. I had the sausage plate: one link each of Bratwurst, Wiener schnitzel, and knockwurst. Comes also with sauerkraut and German potato salad. OMG this stuff was more than good. The German potato salad has a hint of vinegary type taste, but no over powering, tho.

Loved it! The hubs and I came here on our annual Fredericksburg trip. Amazing food(I had the pork chop in mustard sauce with sauerkraut and German potato salad;and my husband had the Jaeger-Schnitzel with pickled red cabbage and potato salad) wine selection was perfect with great German sweet wines and local reds. The place itself was cozy and sweet, clean and friendly. Service was positively flawless! –1 star because they don’t take Visa or MasterCard :/(but definitely a negligible annoyance!!!) Other than that– DOVISITTHISLITTLEGEM!

A Two Step Review: 1) Bring Cash 2) Arrive early. So cozy, So expect to 1) wait on the sidewalk until your table is called. 2) Really. Yes! Really Delicious German food in a laid back country folksy atmosphere. The entrees are generous in taste. Stone walls, warm and inviting atmosphere, solid wood tables, all leads to an inviting table dialogue. For the area…1) Prices are moderate yet 2) expensive to dine here because of extra charges or higher prices than other restaurants in the neighborhood owing to a higher quality. For example: 1) bread is not complimentary, a small basket of bread will run you almost $ 2…and a second basket of the same bread is upwards of $ 5.00. We also noted, the adult beverages of beer started at $ 10.00 a glass. (That being said, the bread is quite good and they present you with real butter.) The coffee was excellent, smooth. 2) The soup, although $ 8.00 and came with no bread or crackers… was simply WONDERFUL.(We broke down and ordered the $ 2 bread) Our entrees were fantastic and after eating around Friedricksburg last year and this year… this place wins on taste. The deserts were nice. It’s cozy in here and ordering the deserts is a two step process. 1) Order from your waitress 2) be invited & instructed by your waitress… and you’ll see other diners do the same… walk to the refrigerator case with the waitress… gawk at the offering as random employees squeeze past. Listen for the explanation of each dessert. Point. Make your dessert order, then return to your table to await said desert. Getting to the bathroom is a two step process: 1) pass the dessert refrigerator case with said possible diners in selection mode 2) navigate the food runner coming out of the kitchen down the hall with hot plates. There is only room for one person down the hall. So wait your turn. The loo is a one person set up w German names for one female and one male bathrooms accordingly… So be mindful of that. Because if your in a hurry you might pick the wrong door. I almost did. Four stars for the food. Three for the awkwardness of the place because of the aforementioned tight squeezes and owing to a large waitress station jutting out into the dining area. For some reason this architectural accent and placement bothered me as I kept thinking about how it created bottlenecks w the dessert tours for the cliental and the staff trying to constantly navigate to replenish supplies back there and calculate tickets or convene. But that’s why I’m on vacation to relax. The restaurant does a great business with the modest size they have to work with. Come visit for lunch or dinner. The yum factor is high!

Service was good, just a misunderstanding about what sausage was on which dish. Two out of three were pretty ok about what they had. Mine was too salty. Desserts were nice. Coconut pie was great. Will probably not go back.

Gar nicht authentisch. Kartoffelsalat ist süß. Viel zu viel Pfeffer im Schnitzel. To translate, if you’re looking for authentic German food, keep going. This isn’t even close. As a northern German, I find it insulting that this is what is passed off as our cuisine. They got the names right, but nothing else. The potato salad is sweet. There’s way too much pepper in the schnitzel. Perhaps they’re trying to alter the taste to the locals, but no way would I ever consider this authentic.
