We stayed in El Jeffe for two nights… had so much fun! The patio is perfect for hanging out and drinking wine! And it’s not a far walk from main street at all

So I booked the Kristen for a couple of nights. We were looking forward to sitting out in the courtyard but the hammock is covered in mold and the fountain is green from the algae growing for what looks like years. Inside the cottage, there is mold growing on the walls in the bathroom and the place smells as well. There is a difference between a historic place to stay and an old shack. If they spent a little time keeping the place up it wold be really nice, but it appears to have been neglect

We stayed in Kristin’s and loved it except for two things: the handheld shower. You are standing in a huge awesome bathroom, but it is VERY drafty! So it was the most unpleasant experience we had, brrrrrr!!! Also, like some one else mentioned, the thermostat does not go below 70, which would have been find had there been some air flow in the bedroom/living room area. A simple floor fan would fix that simple! All in all we had a wonderful trip, a few lazy nights/days spent in the hammock and I can’t wait to return. We will just bring a fan with us next time :)

My real rating is 4.5 stars, for«Annie’s» cabin, which is where I stayed. I love, love, love the bathroom. Old stone floors and stone masonry around the tub, wow! It’s just gorgeous, take my word. The only negative is that it must have been ages since anyone had used the jets in the tub — because the first night they kicked out a bunch of black goo :(And, there is a drain in the tub getting a bit worse for wear. But, it fits two large people and was very comfy :) One great thing about the stone floors is they are slip-proof. The main room is also lovely, very spacious, with two comfy armchairs for relaxing in and a comfortable king sized bed. I loved the colors and textures on the walls and floor. My only minor quibble here is that the upholstery and bedspread were looking a bit worn — I know this is a ‘period’ cabin so I like the antique wood and brass furniture — but when it comes to fabrics… I like them newer. Call me spoiled. That said, this place was lovely and we very much enjoyed the peace, quiet, privacy. The only reason I’m not rounding up to five stars is expectations others would have from a «five star» residence which is a bit more ‘luxury’ than ‘antique’ — though this was an experience I would not have traded away for a five star modern suite somewhere. Oh yeah — they have wifi included. Sometimes it was a little weak, but it mostly worked and got the job done(since some of us can’t ever be 100% disconnected from our jobs, boo!) I liked that our cabin did not have a television, though some people might have an issue with that… but with a two person hot tub I would hope you could find something better to do!

I really loved this place. I stayed in Kristin’s with my sleeping buddy. It’s a converted old farmhouse? with 20 foot ceilings in some sections. Huge bed fashioned after a French fruit bowl. Crazy chandelier made out of antlers. Barbed wire as tasteful decoration on the ceiling. Bathroom is bigger than many living rooms. Huge jacuzzi in it that we loved. Outdoor courtyard could fit 50 people, or, in our case, 2. We had drinks there in the evening and coffee in the morning. There’s a lovely hammock. It’s walking distance to many restaurants, bars, and music venues. The only thing that was a little odd, but sort of quaint at the same time was the fact that when the wind blows in the fall, and the pecans fall on the roof, it’s very loud because it’s a tin roof. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone. (Note: when searching for a b and b in Frederickburg, be aware that there are over 300 to choose from and many of them have heart-shaped hot tubs and super tacky pink quilts on teh beds. This is much more tasteful than the ones we saw after an hour of research. Also, many of them require two-night stays and this one allows a one-night stay both during the week and on the weekend.)

What a great place to get away from the day to day routine. I enjoyed staying in Annie’s Cabin, and enjoyed staying in the town of Fredericksburg. The location of Austin Street Retreat cabins couldn’t be better — you’re on the west in of town and can easily walk down and enjoy the entire stretch of Main St stores and restaurants. Our cabin was great — very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was pretty amazing too. See picture for the great bubble bath tub and awesome sunlight. Even though other cabins are right around the corner, we hardly saw anybody and felt like the place was ours. The porch and yard with Annie’s cabin are great too. There is a hammock to enjoy in the sunny afternoons, and a table to sip coffee and listen to the birds in the morning. I felt the nightly rate for this place is fair, considering other B&B/guest house pricing and the amenities this place provides: great location, relaxing atmosphere, and comfortable rooms/space. If you’re looking to visit with more than a couple, know that Austin Street Retreat also has a bigger house that sleeps 4 people(maybe 6?).
