Well, they have very good dumplings… not as good as homemade but what is? I ordered a hodge-podge of items to try… and the dumplings we’re by far the best of them. The garlic chicken wings we’re not that spicy nor was the spicy shrimp. The shrimp were also pretty heavily breaded. The Fried rice was also decent but very salty and had a small ration of proteins to rice. That said, the food was decent… not great or memorable but definitely a nice neighborhood place to go for that Chinese/Korean food jones. Ths food was a bit salty… and although I am not afraid of salt or salt sensitive, this food was overly salty or full of MSG… one of the two. IF you’re eyes are puffy in the am… that’s salt or MSG. lol… it is what it is. ;) The service we beyond friendly and I can see why they had a line of carry our orders to fulfill. very nice husband and wife working very hard which I always love to see. Please take my criticisms above with a grain of salt — no pun intended. Next time, I would try some noodles and soups… and the dumplings for sure. I think i’ll just stay away from the Gwi-Low food. :)

Came here with the roommate to celebrate. The food was good and the old Asian ladies were really nice. I just wish they had more options to choose from and I wish their family deal had more variety to it.

Finally! The old school Chinese restaurant I’ve been looking for! Food is super authentic and delicious, every dish is made fresh on the spot. I had the black bean noodle dish and hubby had kungpow chicken. Both are great, the couple who owns the place is as sweet as can be… Will be back soon.

This literally mom-and-pop shop is in the same mini strip mall as Sensitive Sweets, which is how I found it. It’s a Korean-Chinese restaurant, with only a few typical Shandong style dishes. I saw 2 things: jjambong(, aka 韓式炒碼麵), and Shandong-style sweet and sour beef and I’m sold! I asked for no noodles on the seafood jjambbong and the mom gave me a bowl of rice instead. Then mom gave the order to the dad and dad cooked after it was ordered. Since I only saw the 2 of them working, food will take a bit to come out. Thankfully I came after the lunch rush. The jjambbong is quite good; to me, just as good as the Koreatown versions in seafood flavors. There were 4 big shrimps, some squid, mussels, cabbage, onion, tree ears mushrooms, green onions, and a spicy seafoody, anchovy broth. and I finished it with my bowl of rice. The Shandong-style sweet and sour beef(they call it Korean style) is the type of sweet and sour I remember from my childhood. This version has crispy beef slices, with cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, onions, tree ear mushrooms, and pineapple with the clear, pale sweet and sour sauce. That pale clear sweet and sour sauce is the sweet and sour from my childhood; and to think after Mom passed 20 years later, I actually get to taste it again. I took it home to share with Honeybuns(he got to eat the beef, since it was coated with 1 tbsp of flour, and I got to eat the other fixings). Honeybuns said the beef was coated very thinly, so it was crispy, but sitting in the sauce made it a bit soggy. Next time, ask for the sauce to be put separately in a container. If you can eat wheat, this version of sweet and sour will beat all those made from gloopy globby jugs of pre-made sweet and sour. If you like jjambbong, this version is quite good. If you like Shandong style food, give this a try(as most Korean Chinese food are versions of Shandong food). I hope this happy couple will continue to cook it’s excellent food for a long time.

Growing up and eating lot of Chinese-Korean food in Koreatown, I tasted lot of delicious black bean noodle from here and there in LA. After living in Irvine for couple of months, I was beginning to crave a good black bean noodle so I was researching here and there until I found a place with great Unilocal reviews. I visited this place about a week ago. It was my first time going to this place and I arrived around 4. I had to wait, however, since owners were a bit late but I don’t mind if I get to eat delicious black bean noodles again. The owners were nice and friendly and my expectation for this place got bigger. Then the food came out… Growing up and eating different but equally delicious food in LA made me a bit of a critic for the Korean food but I don’t want to sound too harsh on this place. The noodles were just okay — not too good but not too bad. Just a so so. Again with the Sweet and Sour Pork… Just so so. In conclusion, this place has a nice environment but the food just didn’t satisfy me enough. If you were eating this for the first time, however, it would be a good start but you definitely have to travel to LA to eat some quality Chinese-Korean food.

Parking is tight, bathroom is not too convenient, no service(and no tipping). But everything is good, food is good, menu is rich, price is right and the lady was very nice and friendly. If you on 405 and Westminster and Irvine are out of the way, this place provides a good choice for typical fast but gourmet Chinese food. Compared with Noodle 101, which has shrimp and pork dumplings at $ 9.95 that is $ 3.00 more than Beijing here but with a real shrimp inside, I vote for Noodle 101. Pan Fried HK style noodle is not bad, go with tomato and beef on the top, you could not go wrong. Enjoy!

Casual place, quick & easy. Fair prices. Had high hopes due to the reviews… I was craving black bean noodles and saw the great reviews and decided to go with my hubby to try it. Ordered the dumplings, black bean noodles, and sweet and sour pork. Only disappointment was the black bean noodles because it was way too salty. But it was obvious that they knew how to make it well, but someone just had a heavy hand with the salt that day… sad for me… I would go back and try it again.

Great mom and pop owned Korean-Chinese restaurant. The owners are super friendly. The menu is not huge, but everything that I have ordered has been delicious.

Got the«family style tofu» and a diet coke for 8.59. It was your typical Americanized«Chinese»: a few triangles of fried tofu and generic stir fry veggies piled in tasteless overly velveted sauce. Maybe i got the wrong dish but it looks like there’s nothing to see here. Other choices are your typical not-so-Chinese kungpao chicken, bulgogi et al. Choice of drinks are soda in a fridge. Choice of sauce is sriracha.

Mom and pop place serving decent Chinese food at affordable prices! Accept it for what it is. Do not expect gourmet and do not expect 99 cent Chinese quality food either. Kind of in between as they do use fresh ingredients and try to keep customer costs down as well. They offer quite a variety of dishes ranging from soups, vegetarian friendly, daily lunch specials and their portions are good. All cooked to order. The couple are very sweet and helpful. They stopped including salad as a side in their daily lunch specials and have replaced it with egg rolls fairly recently. Lunch portions and al la carte portions are always plentiful. In addition to Chinese food, you can also find some Korean dishes on their menu too. Which is much appreciated when I get a sudden hankering for some jajangmyeon! Parking is tight(especially after work hours), so be ready for that.

I visited this place twice and order different dishes each time. 1. Black bean noodle — ok. Typical, nothing exceptional or outstanding 2. Sweet & sour pork — pretty good with well balanced sauce 3. Dry black bean noodle — terrible. Bland and not enough sauce to cover the noodle. Noodle comes on the side and cooks to order so you can’t ask for more. The worst part of the visit is finding a hair in one of the free side dishes… I don’t think I’ll ever come back.

Moving out of town but I wanted to update this review to give this little gem of a restaurant its props. This was my go to place over the past year for Chinese. Great food every time and I’ve never had a complaint about anything. If you live in the area or are just stopping through. Definitely check this place out!

Nice little mom and pop shop. Small restaurant with about 8 tables throughout. You can either order at he counter or sit down and order. Since it isn’t a fancy place we just placed our order at the counter and then sat down. Since it was lunch time, I ordered the bulgolgi lunch plate which came with rice. I added a drink some it came out to be under $ 10. They take credit cards, but only for orders of $ 10 or more. Food came out at a reasonable time. The food was good. Thought the rice was a bit dry. Made it hard to eat with chopsticks. The mom of the shop was nice and friendly. Will probably come back to try other items.

I heard about this place from some friends and finally decided to try the jjajangmyeon(black bean noodle dish) and the steamed dumplings(very popular dish). Located in a small little plaza near a vegan bakery place(also very delicious after a good meal), it’s easy to find and although the parking lot is small, you should be able to find something. My bf and I went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all. Definitely a little hole in the wall restaurant owned by a humble couple. Very nice customer service and price is reasonable for how good it is. The food was amazing. Fresh, delicious, and actually made me wanting more. We ordered two orders of the jjajangmyeon and an order of steamed dumplings and it was so good that I wanted more… haha. We’ve been to Young Pung in garden grove and the noodles are nowhere near as good as Beijing’s. This place obviously gets their good reviews from the excellent food and service. Will def. be going back when I’m craving jjajang again!

I come by the general area for work quite often and I was craving some Korean food, namely Ja Jiang… which is black bean sauce over noodles, and I absolutely love the stuff. So when i saw this place on the list of nearby spots, my stomach leapt for joy. When you pull up, it’s part of a strip mall off brookhurst, near a vape shop, and some other spots as well. It’s pretty easy to miss so just keep an eye out. The place is a kinda of a hole-in-the-wall, but kinda not. It’s like a sit down/takeout location… we didn’t know what to do, so we actually ordered at the counter and sat down. Everyone else that came after us just sat at the tables and got served… note to self for next time. But the main thing is, they had ja jiang. I came in on a day where I wasn’t eating mest(Lenten observation), so I was even happier to find that if you don’t want the pork(which Ja Jiang usually has), there’s a veggie-only option. It was pretty good, and made from scratch, so I loved that too. Also had the fried crab and shrimp wontons, which pretty good too. Coworker had the shrimp fried rice and had no complaints. The portions are decently big, so we shared both of our meals, I think they’re all made for sharing anyway. I can see parking to be hit and miss, if this place is crowded, which it never got while we were there… and the other places have a lot of ppl, then it could be an issue. But the strip mall is kinda big. Service was good, the lady was helpful and friendly. She prob appreciated that we ordered from the counter and sat ourselves down after, hehe. But the food came out quick, the Ja Jiang took a little longer, but if it’s being made from scratch, I don’t mind.

This place is located in a tiny strip mall on Brookhurst and Slater next to a tattoo shop. It’s clearly a small Mom and Pop shop but super good. I would rather come to Beijing Wok then Lucky Chinese. This place is more fresh and the food just tastes better. I usually order the Orange Chicken or the Kung Pao but everything i have tried has been great. I highly recommend trying this place. Everything is made with love and the pricing is very reasonable. There is a new Duke in Town!

This place is super close to my aunt’s house and I discovered it because of Unilocal LOL. I went here for lunch twice(or three times during the summer I don’t remember) and each occasion, I ordered the Dry Ja Jiang Noodles with Pork. By dry, it means that there’s not excessive black bean sauce in the dish. The Ja Jiang here is one of their most popular dishes. What I like about this dish is that the flavors here are very simple and clean. Sometimes, understated dishes make the biggest statement. It’s fun to see how perfect it is in the beginning. But when you get mixing and eating, that’s when the real fun begins! It’s quite a big meal for the about $ 8 – 9. Comes with a side dish of kimchi. What a good price! The couple here who owns this place is super friendly and speaks both Korean and Cantonese(since their restaurant cuisine mostly comprises as a fusion between these two cultures). The husband does mostly the cooking whereas the wife does mostly the front cashier and cleaning. Will come back if I’m craving for them noodles in the OC that’s for sure! :)

I’m not an expert by any means when it comes to jajangmyun and tangsooyuk, but having eaten my fair share of it, it is without a doubt one of the best tasting dishes I’ve had. The sweet lady recommended the fish dumplings. I’ve never had dumplings with fish before and was a little reluctant. What an explosion of flavor from the seasoned flounder! Big fan of family owned businesses, and the two that run the restaurant are very warm and welcoming. Two thumbs up for service and quality! Fountain Valley is lucky to have this hidden treasure.

This place was a quick find we were desperately looking for before a wedding and this place was quite a hole in the wall considering its location. We were quite impressed with this discovery, as we would never find ourselves in this location. What is curious about this place that it is part Korean Dishes and part Chinese Dishes. With that said, we ordered the Bulgogi, Chinese Noodles, and Spicy Garlic Wings. Coming from the looks, you would think this place is just an ordinary run of the mill industry filled chinese fast food joint, but they give quality food. If I were ever in a tight spot again in fountain valley, I wouldn’t mind going here for a quick bite. Thank you.
