Hands down the BEST michelada(chavela) ever! Soooo good & refreshing! My boyfriend ordered a coctel de Cameron and he hated it, it was warm, not cold :/ I ordered a chicken chimichanga which was okay… The outer shell was soft, not as crunchy as it should be. Will definitely go back to try something else out — we loved the bar area and the vibe of the whole restaurant.

My boyfriend had the surf and turf burrito. It looked very plain when it came to our table. Just a burrito with some lettuce and stuff on the side. I almost felt sorry for him when my chicken chimichanga came out dressed to impress with all this sour cream and guacamole and lettuce and tomato. When I took a bite of my chimichanga I was impressed — tasty! Then I looked at him… He gave me a bite of his burrito wow. It was really good! The meat was marinated and tender and the shrimp was juicy and flavorful. Like they say — don’t judge a book by its cover. I might order that one next time. I also had the jalapeño margarita which I loved… Spicy!

This should be a great place to come. Unfortunately we have came four times in the past few months & left disappointed, mostly with the ridiculous rules. My children are older 11&13& every time they would not allow us to sit in the tables AROUND the bar. When we noticed a few kids about 7 – 9 years old at the tables by bar, the hostesses said they may allow it when it’s not crowded. While I completely get that for the actual BAR(as it’s the norm) I’ve never experienced or heard of not allowing kids in the area around the bar where«happy hour» prices are accommodated.($ we frequently go as a family for dinner & happy hour) On the most recent visit l, my sons 13th Bday, he was really wanting street tacos & hoping to watch the game. & of course happy hour. We figured we would ask as It was a not crowded slow Monday evening. The hostess said it’s slow so it’s likely– she went to ask, came back to say no– there was no compromise. Adding to the frustration she said don’t worry happy hour is available all around the restaurant. We were seated & spent time picking out dinner & happy hour items only to find out when we ordered only drinks were available for happy hour prices not the happy hour food/appetizers. This is another area I think they could’ve made an exception with not allowing us to sit in that section — especially for my sons birthday. Rating separately I would give the menu selection/drinks, & prices a 4 star. Their mole sauce is great & coconut martini with honey and toasted coconut around the rim is pretty damn good! We were pretty disappointed in the bday dessert-cheesecake– it tasted like it was a store bought in a box type of cheesecake. Hubby and son actually said they liked Vons and Costco cheesecake better. They used to have the fried ice cream, amazing, but they don’t make it anymore. Ambiance I would give it 3 stars. Service about a 2 – 3 star based in management & hostess. I will come again and would change rating– but at this point due to the fact that rules change for some guest or based on their mood + not being accommodating ATALL on a kids bday, it is what it is. However, I would consider higher as the food is deserves it. Hopefully they will reevaluate some of their annoying rules & realize a lot of families w/kids are in the area & would love to enjoy. I Will go back but it would definitely a better experience if they’re a little more flexible and realistic.

One of the better places to get Mexican food! The restaurant itself is very clean and nice. A lot of open seating and a nice bar area. Service is always very friendly and the food is so good. The only reason I took off a star is because I think the hostesses aren’t a help. They are kind of just there. Last time we came in, she was literally sitting in the guest waiting area, did not greet us, and let us walk by her. She only got up when she noticed the manager greet us.

First I must say I’m not a HUGE fan of Mexican food. I’m VERY picky and always seem to want something that’s not on the menu! Upon arriving I was greeted by the hostess and the Manager on duty, Luiz. He was very polite and showed us to our table. He gave by dad(who was visiting from Hawaii) a few recommendations. Neither of us really wanted anything in the menu so when Luiz came back to ask us what we wanted, we both told him and… BOOM! 10 minutes later my dad had the BEST looking nachos I have EVER seen and I had the BEST enchiladas I’ve ever eaten! Service is outstanding, the restaurant is VERY clean and the food is EXCELLENT! My dad came to visit over a month ago and he’s STILL talking about his nachos! I know where I’m taking him as soon as he gets off the place next visit!!! Went there for Cinco de Mayo and they are absolutely the BEST! Good food, great service(thanks Carlos) and FABULOUS atmosphere. Luiz the manager makes sure everything is running smooth and take the time to come to EACH table! Thank you for a great evening with mom!

Happy Cinco de Mayo. What a wonderful place to find our fist night as new homeowners in Escondido. And free Jose Cuervo samples. Excellent food and why not get a sculpin or stone ipa at a Mexican restaurant. Very impressed

We’ve eaten here several times. Always solid service and food. How can you tell a Mexican food place is real Mexican? Look inside the restaurant, if you see Mexican’s eating there, then yep, it’s the real deal and this place is just that. It’s in the middle of Escondido in a random strip mall, so if it wasn’t good it would have closed long ago. The owners also own Jalapeños in Carmel Mountain, which is good as well, but I like Anejo better. The carne asada plate, the two item combo plates, the cali burrito etc all delicious. The Tamarindo Margarita is really good, but if you don’t ask for it on the rocks it automatically comes blended, made that mistake once. Their Happy Hour is good and lots of options on it daily. This place is pretty busy in the evenings, and it can get loud, but it’s delicious. We no longer live in Esco, and the size of my butt is thanking me for that… however an occasional meal here will still happen.

The secret to determining if a Mexican restaurant is good… Mexicans are eating there The food is great with good portion size. Our server was fast and was really honest about the menu. My husband was going to order the fried fish and it did not come highly recommend. I ordered the molcajete with steak, chicken, and shrimp and shared it as it was more than enough food. It tasted amazing. If your looking for a good family Mexican restaurant in Escondido, you found it.

Love this place! Great happy hour specials, great taco Tuesday(al pastor are to die for!) and the best prices in town. They have TVs for sports fans, lively music and a great bar set-up for conversations and a fun night out. Andy & Mike are wonderful bartenders. Always my first«go-to» spot for a specialty drink, fun date or take out.

Quick review. Here on vacation, but this would be my new go to place for Mexican. Loved my Fajitas, some of the best I have had in a while. Margarita was average for 7 $. Great salsa. Would come here over and over.

I’m seriously searching for the right words to describe the chicken mole! Delectable, is a good start; there was so much depth and complexity in that sauce — one bite brought out the nuttiness, the next, the heat, and then came the richness. Wow. And, to round out an amazing meal, was five-star service provided by Josue.

I was not a fan of this place at all and the high ratings are really surprising. Service was so slow. The restaurant was not full when we came in. The food and ambiance seemed very white-washed. Salsa was good though. I came in craving tacos, street tacos. They did not offer street tacos. Their tacos were HUGE and unfortunately very bland. The carne asada did not have that nice char that I was looking for. The carnitas was mushy and under seasoned. The beans and rice were fine. I barely put a dent in my dish. I’d choose food at a hole-in-the wall taqueria over this place any day. The margarita came out in a HUGE glass, but it wasn’t the best margarita I’ve tasted.

Really good place to eat Mexican food. Customer services isn’t always excellent, sometimes it sucks a lot to the point we want to leave because they haven’t brought us our drinks. Overall it is a very good place to go eat Mexican Food. Their Tamarindo Margarita is the best.

I came here after paying a visit to Jalapenos and noticing they had a sister restaurant closer to North County! We only came here for a couple drinks to watch some basketball games and heres the verdict: DRINKS: Delicious margaritas, they offer pitchers of beer if you wish AMBIANCE: Plenty of TV’s in the bar area. Otherwise dark due to the extremely tinted windows. FOOD: We didn’t order any entrees, but did have some refills of chips and salsa. Delicious. Anejo is still a bit far from home, so I don’t plan on frequenting often. However, I would recommend them to anyone local to Escondido.

The bean tostada was a decent price, and tasted good. The chips and salsa were good. Service was okay. Nothing amazing happened, nothing terrible happened — a classic 3 star experience.

This is the best shrimp and/or seafood cocktail in North County. A large towering cup/bowl of seafood wonder mixed in with a very nice homemade sauce. Jumbo shrimp are plentiful and the sauce is not ketchup mixed with vinegar. At $ 14.95 this is a true bargain. I have sampled many a seafood cocktail round town and NONE compare to size, quantity or fresh seafood and quality of freshness. There is a very comfortable bar with big screen TV’s playing all the favorite sporting programs.

This place is amazing! It’s always packed unless you cold early enough to beat the crowds. If you are lucky enough to be helped by Gustavo, you will be blessed because he is the BEST! Also, they have the best Aguachile around! I live far from here, but I will be coming back for either a birthday or some big event to celebrate. And their happy hour specials are so great.
