One of my all time favorite spots! We keep coming back for the sake steamed lobster. My bf is lactose intolerant and he discovered the butter is soy!(And delish) We just tried the ceviche and that was tasty. Not spicy enough for my personal taste but it was very good! My absolute favorite drink here is the Zen Martini. So good I replicated it at home! Thinking about returning for the amazing Valentine’s Day six course meal!!!

Love the laid back vibe and great service. The restaurant is small and intimate. It is a great place for a date! The sushi menu is typical at first sight but has some great hidden gems and special rolls. The appetizers and dinner entrees are creative and are easily split so you can try more than one. The pulled pork sticky buns are the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten. Get them. We have lived in this area for a few years and have yet to eat anything less than phenomenal here. They also deliver with great online ordering and quick service.

Some of the most eclectic flavors and rolls I have ever had. This is definitely one of my favorite sushi places now! Me and some girlfriends came here for dinner and it was a nice, relaxing place to go in the bishop arts district. The interior is decorated very cleanly and zen of course. You must try the xalapa roll! It looks pretty basic, but it has great flavors and was quite refreshing to eat. The lime tops off the flavors of the tuna, avocado, and jalepeno really well. The zen bruschetta was also very good! Beware this is not a roll, it’s 3 pieces of fried eggplant topped with pieces of raw tuna. I loved the flavor of the Thai basil with the bruschetta though! We also got a tuna tower and that definitely did not disappoint. Overall, I really loved this restaurant and was surprised at the new flavors they incorporated into their sushi items. It was also very affordable with it’s prices. Check this place out!

I’ll keep this review short. SUCH A BEAUTIFULLITTLERESTAURANT. Our waitress was wonderful: she kept our drinks full and our plates full. IFYOUCOMEYOUMUSTORDERTHEMARGARITAS. I’m a huge patron connoisseur but my drink was ordered for me {without patron} their original option and it was delicious, seconds were placed. Then the must have go to roll is the xalalpa, most definitely sure I didn’t spell that right, but you’ll know it when you see it. {lime/jalapeños combo} Last but not least GREENTEAICREAM W TOASTEDCOCONUTANDBANANAMANGOCOMBO this is just my recommendation, please come and enjoy and see for yourself. Such a great place to have in oak cliff.

A welcome change from imitation crab and mediocrity so common to America’s sushi restaurants. The California Sun, a tempura fried California roll containing real crab, fresh avocado, and a hint of cream cheese, was perfectly balanced by the spicy mayonnaise and sriracha on top. The spicy salmon, although regrettably lacking in heat, more than compensated for its shortcomings with perfectly prepared salmon. In contrast, the heat of the spicy tuna roll overpowered the flavor of the tuna. The eel nigiri was so delicate that it melted in the mouth. The salmon skin, usually a favorite of mine was disappointing although not unpalatable. Reasonably priced.

I can never get enough of Zen. Everything is always fresh. The flavors are simple, clean, bright and oh so good. I’ve been to too many sushi restaurants that douse their products in flavored mayo, probably to hide the taste of subpar ingredients. Do not leave without ordering a xalapa roll or a ceviche martini.

I love this place so much when I dropped by for a meal while on a work trip. There were plentiful vegan options and great drinks. I’d definitely go back again.

Lots of promise but low on the delivery. First, whoever seasons their cajun edamame needs to get their taste buds checked… w/cajun seasoning, a little goes a long way. They dumped a whole bunch of seasoning onto it, thereby leaving only a few pods to be edible. The same person who seasoned the edamame must have also put the scallions on the Negi Hama Roll. With sushi, as with most things Japanese, it pays to show restraint and control. Restraint and control. The real star of the meal(which saved this from a one star review) was the salmon sashimi. It was delicious, I would have skipped the specialty rolls and saved room in my stomach for the sashimi. Sorry guys, Uchi came to town and I’ll be going back there for good sushi from now on.

We usually order delivery but regardless of whether we order online or over the phone or in the restaurant, we have been fully satisfied with the quality of the food, the price, and the customer service. We are fortunate to have a sushi restaurant that celebrates the fish rather than cover it with sauces. They have a wide selection of rolls and everything we’ve tried has been solid. I once had a customer service inquiry and the owner reached out to me to answer my question, personally. You will find they value their patrons’ satisfaction.

This place has some of the best sushi I have had! The Xalapa roll was amazing(according to my meat eating friend) and the California moon(with fresh jalapeños added) WASTHEBEST. They have of veggie options! In fact they have an entire veggie menu which is always a big plus for me! The restaurant is a pretty nice size but the best part, except my amazing roll, was the service. Hands down one of the most attentive and personable waiters I have ever had. Brandon was awesome and made the whole experience that much better.

Zen is tucked into Bishop Arts District. The décor is modern and simple. I sat at the sushi bar with my friend and fiancé. The restaurant wasn’t packed but still had a high noise level. We ordered the following: California roll 7.50, Philadelphia roll 7.50, Shrimp tempura 7 .00, Fresh water eel nigiri 6.50, Tuna nigiri 6.50. I usually order the cheaper rolls. If they get that right then I’ll order something more adventurous. My friend ordered the lettuce wraps. We asked for a ponzu and asked for a lot of it. The waitress brought out a tiny dish of ponzu. We had to ask her for more. She brought out 2 more tiny dishes. The ponzu tasted more like soy sauce. It lacked the citrus flavor. The california roll was dry and tacky at the same time. It was bland. I bet I could’ve thrown it at the wall and it would’ve stuck. The shrimp tempura roll was much better. My fiancé enjoyed the Philly roll, the eel and tuna. The eel was almost hot when it was given to us. I almost burned my tongue. He was impressed with how fresh the tuna was. I gave him some of the california roll to which he agreed was absorbing all the saliva in his mouth. My friend said the chicken for the lettuce wraps was very dry. It didn’t look dry. They had almost drowned the chicken in sauce. It was glossy looking. The lettuce looked very pretty. My friend said she was eating it because she paid for it. It wasn’t all that great but it wasn’t so terrible that she couldn’t eat it. That’s how I felt too. The waitress brought out the bill and then returned with another bill. She said she forgot to add in another dish. She wasn’t very attentive. We had finished our drinks and she didn’t refill them. Her personality was much like the sushi. Bland. That’s my impression of this place. It’s all just bland. It’s tolerable but there’s better places to spend your money.

Very vegetarian-friendly sushi place in the Bishops Arts District. Cool place, cool location. My brother loved their sushi, and I loved that they have a separate veg menu with tons of vegetarian and vegan options, including 13 vegetarian(11 are vegan) rolls, 2 vegan entrees, 12 vegetarian(9 vegan) appetizers! We liked everything we tried — including the delicious cocktails. Heads up — the green dragon roll says«crazy spicy!» in parentheses on the menu — they are NOT kidding. One of the spiciest things I’ve ever ordered!

So this is my first time to ever try real sushi, not that buffet crap you see at Chinese restaurants. We tried spider roll, dragon roll, and who bunch others and wow and omg it’s really good much flavor in every bite. I’m not a sushi expert at all I’m a noob but I’m coming back again. If you love sushi come here. The atmosphere is awesome very cozy and chill. Perfect for those date nights

Great vegetarian/vegan options, which is super rare when it comes to sushi restaurants. Zen offers more than just avocado and cucumber rolls — my personal favorites are shiitake, tofu, and beef xalapa rolls. They taste SOGOOD. My husband likes California moon roll which is deep fried. If you want something fried you may want to give it a try. They do have what they call Green(vegetarian/vegan friendly) menu so you ask for that. You’ll find a bunch of different vegetarian/vegan friendly options besides sushi there. I subtracted 1 star because last two times in a row they gave us meat gyoza(fried dumplings) instead of vegetable ones. I understand they look similar when everything is nicely wrapped with the skin but we still found it disappointing. The service is usually good here(sometimes slow but acceptable) and we got proper vegetarian ones promptly after we complained.

Overall the location and atmosphere were great, but I was disappointed by the lack of options when it came to sushi rolls. –Appetizer: When looking at the original menu and the sushi menu, I noticed the dynamite mussels were listed with 2 different prices(of course you get charged the more expensive one when the bill comes out, but it’s not much more). The mussels themselves were good. I enjoyed the addition of crab meat, but they were saturated in jalapeños. –Rolls: Alaska Roll & Caterpillar Roll Both were good but nothing too exciting. The worst part was that my friend found two bones in the salmon that was on top of the Alaska Roll. I have never encountered this problem while eating sushi so I just wanted to make people aware of it.

–Good location in the heart of Bishop Arts –Service was ok. Not terribly prompt in retrieving drinks or taking our order –Split several dishes: Sushi(rolls were pretty creative, fresh ingredients) Coconut panko shrimp(delicious) Tuna tartare(standard) Beef and vegetable yakisoba(lacked flavor) Grilled angus tenderloin(cooked well, but once again, lacked unique flavor) Miso-marinated chilean sea bass(terrific) The meal in its entirety was well coursed and appealing, but not particularly memorable. Bottom line is that if you are craving a satisfying sushi/Japanese experience in the Bishop Arts area, this is the place to come to.

Zen Sushi is the only place in Dallas that I go for my seafood! I have been a huge fan of owner/sushi chef extraordinaire, Michelle, since she was the award-winning chef at another sushi restaurant in the Park Cities where she was its heart and soul. Bishop Arts is a long way from Inwood Road, but I will follow Michelle anywhere! Last night was yet another incredible meal! Her starter, Zen Bruschetta, is a must! Eggplant, lightly breaded and fried, is topped with avocado slices and chunks of tuna sashimi. The seasoning, flavors and textures are amazing! I cannot not get this appetizer when I’m at Zen Sushi and is what I craved spurring this trip. This is the only thing I make sure to order and everything else I let Michelle choose and I am never disappointed. The standout dish last night was the Spanish Mackerel Sashimi. Michelle showed us the whole fish and then masterfully prepped and served it. Beautiful thin slices of the fish served alongside the fried skin made an outstanding presentation. She told us all of it was edible and we ate it all, though admittedly I left the head and tail for my dinner partner. Mikey will eat anything! All the servings at Zen Sushi are generous, absolutely fresh, and extremely reasonably priced for top-notch quality fish! Can’t wait to go back!

YES… Asian fusion is the best phrase for this place but I don’t mind! I’ve been twice now and took a friend on the second visit to see how she responded. Turns out, I wasn’t crazy(well not about my impression of this place). This is the second best place I’ve found in all of Dallas for sushi… and believe me, that’s saying something! I come in hungry and leave here stuffed… but I would say stick to the sushi nigiri or rolls for the best experience… I have yet to be impressed by a starter or salad. sorry Zen. Wednesday they have half price sake bottles and wine bottles… so I tried the unfiltered organic and man o man was it delish! I highly recommend the Zen martini as well… yummy the sushi is very fresh, the most important thing in my opinion when it comes to sushi. Décor is simple and the atmosphere is quiet… awesome. I had the snow crab, salmon and eel nigiri with a few rolls: I highly recommend the Xalapa roll!
