Alexander’s has closed!(Ergo one-star). This long-time highly-rated Coronado«pizza joint» has closed its Orange Ave location, reportedly unable to agree on new lease terms with its landlord. There is a rumor afoot that it may reopen in a new location, but no sign of that yet. In the meanwhile, Village Pizza reigns supreme.

We’ll take any excuse to go to coronado for the evening, so we decided to have pizza in coronado last week at Alexander’s. It was our first time, and we were pleased! We got the basic pepperoni pizza, and it was delicious! The crust was quite thin though. And I don’t mind thin crust, but we were told it was thicker crust and I was really looking forward to it. Overall, good experience. Will definitely return for pizza!

Great Pizza! My suggestion is to go between 3−6pm for single slices at a cheaper rate. Have the person throw it in the oven for a few minutes to get the crust a little crispier and POW, delicious pizza. So far my favorite pizza in SD.

Love their pizza! I have a whole list of different pizzas I want to try in the near future. The sausage and pepperoni was super yummy and reasonable priced. We live in Coronado now and many of the restuarants are more expensive than the mainland. But not this pizza joint. They were great!

I’m from Connecticut(new haven ct was voted best pizza in the us!)! I’ve lived in San Diego for 6 years now, and this place, by far, is the best! Everyone that works here is super friendly, the service is great, they take their time creating the perfect pizza for you and it’s worth it! Wine, beer, fanta and awesome pizza. As my boy says it: delicious. Def recommend this place and they do take out(not sure about delivery)!!!

I’ve eaten a fair amount of pizza in my life, and Alexander’s is definitely one of my favorites. I like the variety of single slices they have and the quality of the ingredients is top notch. My only complaint might be that the crust can be a little over done sometimes. Im not sure if its because the pies sit in the warmer too long, or if they are being over-cooked from the get go. However, recently this seems to have been fixed as the last few times I’ve come, the crust has been great. So if you’re looking for a good slice that folds nicely and tastes great, come check out Alexanders!

Okay their Scooby Snacks are AMAZING(bite size dough balls filled with pepperoni & mozzarella)!!! We also tried their King Alexander pizza(think supreme) and their Mystic pizza(sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, feta, swiss, and mozzarella cheese). Both were delicious but hands down the Mystic was our favorite, great combinations!!!

Ate here(carry out) yesterday based on previous Unilocal reviews and so called rating of best in Coronado. Not sure if I would agree as pizza was just OK to me. Wife was craving some oven baked and this was the first that popped up when searching on Unilocal. Not necessarily oven baked but satisfied the pizza craving. I’d probably go elsewhere the next time just to give them a try. The pizzas we had(King Alexander’s and Sausage/pepperoni) were average at best, which I am sure we can get from other places on Coronado. Sure, I’d still recommend it, just wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there.

We ordered a spinach feta calzone to eat on the beach. Very little spinach and mushrooms, feta wasn’t melted. The dough was whitish with a couple brownish spots… not browned at all. We paid extra for the butter sauce and that didn’t help the gummy dough. It came with RANCHDRESSING! I’ve lived on the east and wast coast I have never been given ranch dressing for a calzone or pizza!!!

Came here a few Sundays ago, for one of Coronado’s concerts in the park(the wife loves the band that played). Parking was a challenge in itself(which will have nothing to do with this review), so be prepared if you are a visitor like us. We picked this place after checking out the menu out front. Cannot critique the pizzas here, as to whether they deserve the awards they have allegedly received. We both ordered baked sub sandwiches. I ordered the The Bulldog(Pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, red sauce and mozzarella). Wife ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu(Chicken, Canadian bacon, garlic butter sauce and Swiss). We also ordered a side of Honey BBQ Wings & Alexander’s Scooby Snacks(Bite-sized dough balls stuffed with pepperoni and mozzarella). Contrary to many of the recent reviews here we both thought our sandwiches were A-OK! They were both well made, packed with the good stuff(s) and toasted just right. They were not greasy. We both enjoyed the Scooby snacks, which were not over done by means of the dough. The chicken wings were nothing special. The business’ building is small, so if you don’t like cramped quarters on the interior you can eat out front or out back. The interior is not fancy, to say the least. If ambiance of some sort is important to you then look elsewhere. The front and rear doors are left open, so you get the occasional visitor(flies), but nothing to crazy or health hazardous in my opinion. The cashier at the counter(where you order) did not appear to be thrilled simply having a job. A smile and being amicable would not hurt, bro — you are EMPLOYED during these rough economic times! But, again, because he was not downright rude I will not base my review on this aspect. My /our main complaint was how long we had to wait to get our food — about 40 minutes. At this point my ice tea was down to nearly empty and the wife’s beer(which she was nursing) got to room temperature. Prices were reasonable, as far as we were concerned. Would we eat here again, you ask? Yes, we would. However, it is probably unlikely we will because Coronado is not a place we frequent(been over 15 years since we were last out there; and my how it has changed). If you are curious about our outdoor concert in the park, within walking distance from this place: what a great venue! Nice park, plenty of room and they allow(or condone) the consumption of alcoholic beverages(something Temecula forbids and enforces). Oh, and the band was excellent!

We ate here while walking around Coronado island since they claim to have been voted the best pizza on the island for many years; however, we were very disappointed with the crust of the pizza and calzone. Although the calzone’s ingredient’s seemed very fresh, the crust, being thin and somewhat over baked limited overall taste. My wife had two different pizza slices(cheese and Hawaiian), but each was nothing special and also seemed to have been over cooked. Although many patrons may order food to go or for delivery, we ate at this small restaurant and imagined that sampling the food at the source would be best, but we were disappointed. We should have been more skeptical of the proclamations about«best pizza» since no awards were current.

I don’t understand why this place has won best pizza on Nado. I guess because the only other fast alternative is Village Pizza. My son likes it(he’s 7) so we go here and there as a fast meal after a baseball game or something like that. Pizza crust is fine but the cheese is so overcooked and dry I think that is probably what it is like to eat a scab. It’s kind of gross. Last time we went I avoided the pizza(which is my favorite food, EVER) and ordered the grossest meatball sub I had ever eaten. I think they were frozen meatballs, the mini kind. They just were greasy and squishy, and it took forever. I have never experienced what I would consider friendly service of any kind here. In spite of this cranky review, I am always pleasant and polite in restaurants(having been a server). That said, staff is meh. Just there. Not particularly friendly at all. I guess I am just over the blah service, it’s like they are annoyed to serve people. I am a native New Yorker and I LOVE a good old fashioned, quick service pizza parlor. But Alexander’s pizza is gross and service sucks.

To be honest, I thought the pizza was okay, but nothing that would WOW me(when it comes to pizza) They are a little bit on the pricey side when you consider, it’s just average pizza. On the plus side, the staff is pretty nice.

I came here summer ’12. The pizza was ok, but i thought it was super overpriced. We got a large supreme and like 3 drinks and it came up to $ 38 i think. I guess places on the island are bound to be a little more expensive, but come on =p Anyway, the cashier guy that worked there looked like jonah hill(the fat guy from superbad) lol So that made me laugh. The set up was pretty cool there though, and they have seats in the back, but it’d be better to sit inside or out front. The back is a little darker at night. Also, parking is on the street, so it might be a little hard to find a spot if it’s a busy night!

A stop on the Bite SD tour. The Scooby snacks bites were first and then we tried the supreme and the feta sun dried tomato. The Scooby snacks weren’t very good as the dough wasn’t done. The pizza was good and has won awards as the best in Coronado. I recommend the Mystic Pizza. Is the pizza worth driving across the bridge for. Probably not, but if you are in the area and craving pizza I would put Alexander’s at the top of your list.

Alexander’s Pizza has the Best tasting pizza there is out here in SD. It can’t get any better than this. It’s worth the trip I make with my family from Spring Valley to Coronado to eat here and enjoy the beaut4l beaches. And Pet friendly patio areas.
Remind yourself to stop by when you want some great pizza for a good price too

Yummy! Delicious pizza. Had the King Alexander and Scobby Snacks. Discovered this through Bite SD. They were the most generous from all the food stops. Delcious pizza. Overpriced, but I could see why it’s a local favorite. =)

Scooby snacks, scooby snacks, scooby snacks. No wonder Scooby Doo worked hard to get himself some of these. These things are sooooo gooood! Little fluffy dough balls filled with pepperoni and cheese. OMGHEART! Not only are those absolutely melt in your mouth delicious, so are the pizza flavors they had put out for us as part of the BITE tour. This was stop number 2 and after having one small piece of coconut shrimp from Peohe’s, I was completely satisfied with the 4 small pieces of pizza and two scooby snacks I got here. There were two types they provided us. One was their King Alexanders which is their version of a combo or supreme pizza. ABSOLUTEHEAVEN. I love pizza and more so I love combo pizzas. The other flavor was their version of a vegetarian pizza. It had tomato, garlic, feta(or ricotta — not sure) cheese, and other herbs and spices on it. It was garlic heaven. I loved it. Yes– I’m an onion and garlic lover. You’d hate to take me on a date. But I’d eat almost anything with garlic in it. And most expecially pizza and garlic. The more the better. :) This is definitely the spot to grab a bite next time I’m roaming Coronado! Thank you BITE tour!

Got the King Alexander and Scooby Snacks. The king alexander is pretty good but I wish the crust was crispier. But it was loaded with toppings and everything. It is a well made pizza. The pizza is kind of over priced but it is a good pizza. Place is a bit small and parking in the back. If you are in the area stop by, but not worth driving all the way to Coronado.

I really don’t think it is the best in San Diego but the Scooby snack were pretty good.
