We used to eat at the Dona Chio location on Elmdale and loved it. So when we walked into this one on Clark Street, and the place was empty, we weren’t totally concerned. Now I’m not sure if the two restaurants are run by the same people. The menu is similar, but the food quality at this location was terrible. I had a sope with chorizo and potatoes and it tasted like it was stewed for a long time and then reheated, not fresh tasting at all, very little flavor. The complimentary chips were too greasy, like they had been thrown in the fryer multiple times to reheat them.

Squash blossom tacos. I’d never had them before I ate here, but they are incredibly delicious, and everyone should try them. All of the food here is fantastic(especially the tacos), everything has a homemade touch, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. There are a ton of Mexican places on Clark in Rogers Park, but this is one of my two go-to Mexican restaurants.

Points for having handmade fresh tortillas and really delicious salsas on the table, but we had really lackluster tacos here. The al Pastor and chorizo was just heated — it didn’t have a sear on the meat and was just not the experience you want for tacos. The tinga had good flavor, but it just didn’t make a great taco. Service was fine. Was very clean. We just didn’t have good tacos and that was disappointing. I don’t get a sense it was an off night either — was not busy when we visited. If you go, skip the tacos.

I was pleasantly surprised that this place has REALTORTILLAS that must be homemade. The chicken tacos i had were so much better than the others in this area because of the fresh tortilla. YUMMMMMMY. I saw a friend and he kept raving about his Huarache. I’m going to try that next. Not the average taco joint.

Solid choice on a strip of mexican/TAQUERIA joints. The portions are huge and reasonably priced. The salsa’s are good and the chips are fresh. I have had the TORTA(it was so big that I had to capitalize torta) and the burrito. Street Parking Only, its across the street from the Rogers Park Library.

Out of all the Mexican restaurants I had to choose from down Clark, I was more than lucky to choose this one. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly CLEAN this place was. The floors were shiny, and the bathroom was so clean, I felt I could eat in there without being disgusted. I snuck a peak at the kitchen and it was clean as well. Very organized. All the women here are polite, and they made my family and I feel at home. Now let me tell you about the food. DELICIOUS! HUGE portions, too! Prices are very reasonable. I tried the steak and tinga. The steak had a memorable flavor, and wasn’t chewy or greasy. The tinga was a good level of spicy, and it wasn’t dry. The tortas, tacos, and huaraches are great! The tortillas are homemade! Try them ! I also had beet juice, and it tasted fresh. The tortilla chips are fresh. They didn’t have much salt, but they had a yummy flavor.

First time visit so I’ll reserve a star. This is a return of this regional cuisine back to this end of N. Clark in Rogers Park. We went to find quesadillas, sopes, etc. featuring flor de calabasas and huitlacoche. They also feature tacos with tinga(stewed spiced chicken) and sesos(cow brain). The storefront was completely renovated and is rather large with small tables that can be flexibly pulled together for larger parties and a window bar stool counter additional seating options. On the menu were also mango and strawberry aqua frescas. We give the strawberry a thumbs up.
