Recommended by a friend. We arrived here to a warm welcome by Becky. Great food. Reasonable prices. Lots of tv’s. Love it!

They were who we thought they were. Below average beer, below average food, below average music and not particularly nice. But, there’s comfort in getting exactly what you are looking for time and time again. Plus, outdoor volleyball is a feature that no one else has in Chicago.

I’ve been tending bar on and off for over forty years all over Chicago. Never have I been in such an unfriendly bar. I always tried to make the newcomer feel welcome. No one said hi, introduced themselves, or spoke to me so I played on my phone while I drank my overpriced beer.($ 3.75 for a domestic beer in the middle of the afternoon). NEVER going back to Augie’s and I’m sure they could care less. There are much better places I can spend my money.

Just a fair priced sports bar. Nothing special, but no issues except for the bathroom is the size of a closet. Service was fine and the selection was decent. We were there on a Thursday night with no local games going on so I can’t speak about how it is on game day. But for a Thursday night with good weather, this place was pretty chill.

Great neighborhood spot with tasty food at great prices along with being a place that throws some great parties. Jav always makes everyone feel welcome and like an old friend. A must for people looking for a true Chicago neighborhood bar.

I hate to do this, but Augies used to be really nice, but over the last year, it became run down!

Excellent corner bar. Good drinks, good people. Stopped in to catch some of game 5 for the Blackhawks, and it was awesome. Lively locals lined the joint hanging in front of every flatscreen. Our drinks were strong, but not overly poured to the point of not enjoying them. Can’t wait to go back and try the food!

Love this place. I love quiet dive bars that have good food, good prices and good services. They even have outdoor patio during the summer. A little beach volleyball in the back. And during Xmas… THE #1 bar in Chicago. I have never seen more decorations in my life. SOO have to check it out.

What a gem of a place! Super nice homey dive bar that goes all out with festive decorations for holidays. Cheap drinks, fun atmosphere. Can’t wait to play volleyball out back once it gets nice out!

Went after playing ball hockey, the atmosphere is sporty, the drinks are cheap, and free street parking. Good venue to get a drink with a sports team.

The best place to get you into the Christmas spirit! Even if they didn’t have the best Christmas décor this dive bar would still be at the top of my list. It has that typical, grandma’s basement Chicago dive bar feel that I love and is just a fun low-key spot to grab a beer with friends.

Dog sh*t. We had a table on a Saturday night watching the Blackhawks. All of a sudden we were told we had to leave the bar. ‘Javier’ said our tables were reserved and we had to go. They didn’t offer us a different table. Didn’t offer us a discount. Didn’t give us a free meal. Do not come here! Bouncer was strong-arming us to leave. Awful.

How can you not love Augie’s? They have the best holiday decorations(especially Christmas). Everyone there is always in a pleasant mood. It’s got the feel of a Wisconsin Supper Club with less emphasis on the«supper» and more emphasis on cheap beers. Love this local joint so much I might name my first born child Augie.

Pros: They have food!(Compared to the other neighborhood bars on Wrightwood.) Sand volleyball court is fun! Great place to go as a sports team sponsor after a game. Fun atmosphere to watch sports games(especially Hawks these days). Good bartending service only at bar. Fun decorations! Cons: Comparatively, TVs are average. Can get crazy packed for sports games like Blackhawks with no person limit. No table service. Must get food and drinks at the actual bar if looking for quicker service. Notes: It’s a neighborhood bar. Not a bar for dancing. It’s an atmosphere for chill drinkers and sports watchers.

It’s a decent bar for what it’s worth. I visited during the winter to see a friend, and the beer was good(maybe a little warm). I ended up getting the chili + shared tots with the friend. Chili was pretty good, as were the tots, so no complaints on those two items. Apparently they have weekday special items, something I’m interested in trying. The service was alright, but I don’t think they had good surround sound/huge TVs. This is your very typical bar, so don’t come here to be surprised at the service/food/much else. This place has tons of potential for drawing in a larger crowd, but the owners might just be happy with what they have.

Beer. Burger. Tots. Just go in and order that and you will leave satisfied. Augies has become the go to place to celebrate after my bowling league seasons. I indulge with the Lagunitas IPA, burger with cheddar, grilled onions and bacon, and tots. With all that at your table take in the games and marvel at the train that cruises around the bar with carts that display chicago businesses. Also a great place to watch hawks games, especially during the playoffs. Glad I was introduced to this little neighborhood gem.

Spent NYE eve at Augie’s this year with some friends. Despite the snow-maggedon going on outside, Augie’s was a warm and welcoming bar that we had a blast at. It wasn’t packed but it was busy. They have TV’s in the FLOOR! how cool is that? They had an open bar package but we didn’t decide to do that — my wife and I drank lots and they gave us what I believe was a free champagne toast at midnight(keep in mind, no tickets or cover to get in so that was pretty cool). All in all our tab at the end of the night was $ 45 — crazy cheap for how much we drank. The waitress was really great all night and everyone had a blast!

I’m going to do this review Chicago style. Let me just come out and say my name is Augie, so to review a place of my namesake I won’t be using a critical eye. The place is simple. I don’t know if most Unilocalers would appreciate it’s charms or lack of charms. But that’s what I like. I spent yesterday hungover from Saturday night at Augie’s, a nite that included a Serbian band playing there. I couldn’t do anything but lay on my couch and watch Bar Rescue for most of the day. The guy that operates the show would hate Augie’s. All the more reason to frequent this place… I don’t want a place based on a corporate model for my drinking pleasures. Augie’s is old school charm at it’s finest.

I passed Augie’s by so many times on my way to the plaza. Finally made my first visit a few weeks ago because they host a social sports league. So Sundays my softball team(and all the other teams) head over after games to drink and eat and hang out. You’ve probably seen us if you’ve ever been there before. Anyway, here’s the scoop: Augie’s is a fun, neighborhood bar. But don’t expect quick service. Or good food. Or a huge selection of beers. You’ve been warned. It’s completely NOFRILLS. So take it as it is. It’s fun to go with a group, grab a few buckets of beer and sit outside — they have a large outdoor seating area. Maybe play a game on the sand volleyball court(but be careful; if you hit the ball over the gate, you have to down a shot of Malört). You can also mix with the locals. My first time in, a random guy bought me a drink! Awesome! Just remember, my fellow Unilocalers, this is a decent bar, not an excellent one, so make your own fun there, laugh off the service(and any snafus that may occur, because they probably will) and you won’t be disappointed.

Bathrooms are so small that the doors don’t open all the way — probably cause there’s a toilet conveniently there, and the air conditioning blasts at one particular spot, which always seems to be the only empty table, so we HAVE to sit there. Good thing we’re not a high-maintenance group of people. But, the BEST part about Augie’s, besides the TV’s in the floor(not), is the sand volleyball court they have out back. We have so much fun here, that we’ve decided to drop out of the Montrose volleyball league that we’re in, so we can spend our Thursdays effing around in Augie’s backyard. A court to ourselves and drink breaks between points. Man, that’s the life. We usually end up ordering mass amounts of their fried appetizers. Quesadillas are plain, onion rings are pretty good, and jalapeño poppers and tots are a must have. Skip out on the Medium Mixed Basket of 5 appetizer for $ 28…not the best deal since none of the appetizers are more than $ 5 each. Haha, nice try Augie’s! The second best thing is the service. We can get a little rowdy… ok, a lotta rowdy, but the servers are very sweet and stay patient — always checking on us and ready to refill our bucket of beers. Bartenders are characters as well. Third best? The crowd. Well duh, cause we go there. No but really, great people — all regulars. Went in wearing a U of I — Urbana/Champaign shirt, and some alumni bought us shots. Haha, loved it.
