Best way to describe this place is «smokey». The cigarette smell from the smoking section was overpowering. We would have left except we were in from out of town, didn’t know the area and couldn’t find another sports bar/restaurant that was showing the NCAA basketball tournament. We just sat at the bar and ate our bar food while holding our noses. The menu variety was good, the food was decent, and the bartender was friendly and attentive(it was really crowded so obviously the nasty smell of cigarettes didn’t bother everybody). Would have rated it higher if not for the rancid, eye-burning smell. Who knew that there are restaurants left in the U.S. that still permit smoking?

Excellent place to hang out and great food. I’ve had salads and appetizers. The monkey balls(meatballs & cheese) are amazing and addictive! They also have an incresible bread pudding! I never seem to be disappointed with anything I’ve ordered and the pricing was about the same as other establishments in the surrounding area. The atmosphere is casual and the staff and management are friendly. They have 2 bars, one for smoking and one for non-smoking. The non-smoking is a bigger area with tables and booths. The smoking area is smaller but does have some booths. It can get very smoke-filled in the smoking area but they have a jukebox that is awesome so I love playing music in there. The non-smoking area has karaōke on the weekends, maybe even starting Thursday nights and that is a lot of fun! They even have some dancing depending on the songs being played. They also have some poker tournaments, which is a nice change. Definitely a good place for grabbing food with the family during the day and hanging out with friends at night on the weekend.

We are down from upstate NY for a few days of warmer weather. This restaurant was near our hotel, and the menu had some variety, so we decided to try it tonight despite the mixed reviews. Although we were the only customers other than the bar crowd after a family with 3 kids left, we had a very good meal. The lobster bisque was very nice, not too sweet. My pulled pork sandwich was outstanding — the pork was well pulled, not chunky or chewy, had a nice touch of crisp to the edges, and the Carolina sauce had just the right blend. My wife’s crabcake was also excellent, plenty of crab and very light, well seasoned. Finally, the Irish brownie sundae recommended by the waitress was perfect to share, the dark chocolate brownie gave it the perfect consistency. The waitress was always there when we needed something, but gave us plenty of time to enjoy our meal, and was genuinely friendly. We had a great meal, and will be back when we visit again.

When Brass Monkeys first opened it was great. Food was great; especially the soup and salad. Prices were good and they had plenty of wait staff. The restaurant was clean. The restrooms were clean. I even took out of town guests. It has now turned into a dive and is no longer unique. The last time I visited; there was no wait staff, only someone behind the bar. It no longer looked clean and no one greeted me. I turned around and left.

It seemed like a nice establishment when we first walked in, but that slowly diminished as the night went on. The waitress totally ignored me, and went for my male friends so much so that they had to order for me. The drinks seemed water down and the food was just OK. They didn’t mind throwing in gratuity though after that horrible service. She was lucky because she didn’t deserve a dime. Its right to be called the Brass Monkey because it nothing Golden about them.

This place used to be one of our families favorite places in Chester but something changed a few months ago. The menu was shortened and then the portion sizes became smaller too. We tried to go back several times but service and quality just kept getting worse.

Best fried pickle spears I’ve ever had! They serve them with southwest ranch. Service was great and good beer selection. Nice mix of local craft and domestic on draft. Laid back atmosphere. Kids menu. Reasonable prices.

This place never ceases to disappoint, despite the fact when you walk in you get smacked in the face with smoke because they have a separate smoking area that doesn’t do so well sealing off the unwanted smoke. The food prices are outrageous, $ 14.99 for my chicken alfredo, which would have been fine if it tasted good. The chicken had the flavor of the inside of their food cooler, meaning they don’t cover their meats, they just that shit sit and absorb the smells and flavors and whatever else is in there. In addition it was all floating in a nice pool of olive oil. My girlfriend had a garden salad which was I believe $ 6.99(consisting of iceberg lettuce, some cheese, a slice of cucumber and croutons… you guessed it, the owner must be high out of their mind) and her«bowl» of potato soup which was $ 5.99 that was basically a little over a cup measurement of soup so I’d hate to see what their cup version portion actually consists of. The waitress took obvious smoke breaks while serving us, we watched her leave and she wreaked of perfume to cover the smell… it didn’t help. She was short with us and didn’t seem to care that I only took a couple of bites, I was going to say something about the quality of the food but there was no point, it’s obvious they don’t give a rat’s ass about quality. We’re done giving this place chances, the moral of the story avoid this place if you value your colon.

I really like this place. They’ve got a decent selection of craft and domestic beers on tap and carry the NFL Sunday Ticket. The nachos with the handmade chips are greasy and get soggy due to the chili they pour on top. I wouldn’t recommend getting those. The steak and cheese egg rolls used to be such much better when they were small rolls. Now it’s just one big roll, which doesn’t get as crispy and is too greasy. The BLT and tuna melt are a few of the best things on the menu. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. They also have a sectioned off bar area that allows you to smoke and not bother non smokers. I will definitely be returning in the future.

GREAT food and low prices! So far everything they make has been superb! They also have a lot of big screen TV ‘s with various content so everyone is happy. They have karaōke, poker nights, etc. I would highly recommend the pick and peel shrimp as well as the nacho appetizer! You can add steak to the nachos as well! Not that crummy Chipotle excuse for steak. I mean REAL legit juicy cooked to order steak on top! YUM!

Pretty average. Nothing super spectacular. Late night service is incredibly slow, especially during karaōke.

This local non franchise restaurant is a local gem. They offer a great weekly line up. Free Poker tournaments, Karaōke, Live Trivia, and Live bands. It does have a, separated, non smoking dining room(other reviewers have complained but they must have very sensitive respiratory systems because it is not nearly as bad as they describe). The other bar which offers smoking is any bar goers delight. Tons of TV’s, great sound and a patio for party’s and darts. The staff is close nit and help each other out. I encountered 3 different wait staff on my last visit, all smiles. They also offer at no cost to the patron UFCFIGHTS!!! Compared to the other local establishments around Brass operated on a completely different level of hospitality. I frequent local Bars in Chesterfield and Richmond and Brass Monkey’s stays in the rotation. Kids eat free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays the offer pint glasses of Craft beer for only $ 2.50. Show me another spot that I can buy Legends for $ 2.50 a pint! This is not an upscale family restaurant. It is however one of the best local watering holes and sports bar. The menu is priced fairly and food is delicious. If there is ever a complaint the staff and management are more than willing to accommodate. The Shrimp Po’ Boy Wrap I had on my last visit was amazing. Cant wait for football season!

I’ve been here a couple of times and the food has always been good. It’s a great place to watch some sports or the UFC fights. There’s definitely an interesting crowd depending on what night you go. The last time I was here there was a live band playing. This place is definitely not set up too well for live music. The stage is too close to the seating area so good luck if you’re planning on carrying on a conversation while there’s a band playing. I will probable avoid going on a night where there’s live music in the future. The only thing that keeps me from coming to this place more often becomes obvious within seconds of walking in the door. There is a separate smoking section separated by a wall. The wall does little to deter the smoke. It smells while you’re trying to enjoy your meal but whats worse is you take the smell out the door with you. Both times I have been here, I have had to throw my clothes straight into the washer to keep them from stinking up the whole house. The smoke smell here is BAD no matter which side you are seated in. Good food and drinks, but the smoke issue is a huge deterrent.

Food is pretty bad, only 1 star because they show the UFC fights which is hard to find in Chester, their drinks aren’t that good either esp when ur glass has black mold floating in it!

I hadn’t set foot inside this establishment since it was Uno’s(oh how I miss thee). The bf and I rode out to Chester to try a particular restaurant for brunch after church; unfortunately, they were closed. I suggested Brass Monkeys since it was on the way home. Plus, I was hungry and didn’t feel like being picky at this point; local dining spots with charm are few and far between in this area compared to the city proper. I was hoping for a good dining experience. When we set foot inside the restaurant, I was immediately smacked in the face by the stench of cigarette smoke. Apparently there is a «separate» room where smoking is allowed. That wall did little to insulate the fumes; those people may as well have been smoking in the main dining area. Perhaps there were people smoking in there the night before. There were remnants of a rowdy night at the bar, including signs that said«No club colors allowed!!!» — whatever the hell that means… extraneous exclamation marks included. Not to mention the hardwood floors were covered by some cheap, poor excuse of a laminate rug covering… seemed shady to me but my hunger convinced me to continue following the hostess to our table. To keep this review from being too lengthy, the bf and I both ordered the crab cake burger(with fries), simply because it sounded good. Well, the burger was cooked well, but the crab cake was a little soft… needed some bread crumbs or something to keep it from crumbling. Also, the sandwich was missing a touch of seasoning to bring out the flavors of the crab with the beef. Perhaps the tartar sauce should have been replaced by an aioli sauce or something. The fries weren’t bad. My bf’s Arnold Palmer was pretty good. The food wasn’t bad, just not great. The environment is definitely not my scene, even if I were bar hopping. I will continue to mourn the loss of Uno’s instead of making a return trip here.

I enjoyed my meal at Brass Monkey while I was in town on a business trip. I struck up a friendly conversation with some of the gentlemen at the bar next to me. Two of the patrons worked at a nearby army base, and they were friendly and had interesting stories to tell. I had a dish that was spicy chicken on rice. I was pleased with the portion and the deliciousness. Wednesday is craft beer day, where craft beer is cheap. They also hosted a poker tournament while I was there. People enjoyed it, but I don’t know if it is a regular occurrence. They also have Karaōke(Thursday?). Good bar food, nice people. I will return when I am in the area.

I love trying new places when I’m traveling and rarely eat in the same place more than once just so I can experience as much of the local fare as possible, this place was an exception. I ate here twice while I was attending training at Ft. Lee, I had the hot dog the first night and had to come back again just so I could try the burger. Both were very good, only the mediocre service kept me from giving this place 5 stars. If you’re a Unilocaler like me and you crave those one of a kind eating establishments give Brass Monkey a shot.

Are you in the Chester area looking for a great happy hour spot? This is the spot for you. What a great place to go for a quick drink with friends. This sports-bar feel restaurant has more than enough to fill your needs for happy hour after a long day. Do you smoke? They have a seperate side of the establishment for you to enjoy your brews in. And, if you don’t smoke or just want to sit down and grab a bite to eat, there is a non-smoking side for you to enjoy as well. Simple basic brews on tap, but the staff will ensure you have a great time. The bartenders are super kind and will ensure your drink stays full– if you have the time to sit and enjoy more than one. Great specials on food and drinks during the week– so go check them out as they often change. Oh yes, and the food. If you do decide that sit down is more your style, go for one of their killer burgers– with more than enough cow to spare between two buns, this place is surely going to fill the hungriest of burger fans in the area. I have even heard of the grilled cheese burger– go check out the heart attack on a plate and see if you can withstand all the flavor on that plate!

Started with nachos as an appetizer, and they were awesome. Wife’s salad was okay. I got the ½ pound hot dog, and should have known better. That’s too big for a hot dog, and almost impossible to eat. The saving grace were the french fries. Some of the best I’ve ever eaten. This place is worth another try in my book.

This a locally owned restaurant that is in the building that used to house Uno Chicago Grill. The lights and booths are still from its days as Uno, but I noticed a bar and several hd-tv sets have been added. I was there at lunch and ordered the Fat Boy Burger. This was described as two grilled cheese sandwiches with a bacon burger in-between and a fried egg on top. That is an accurate description. For my side I ordered macaroni & cheese. This was an awesome burger. The combo of grilled cheese, fried egg, and meaty burger was delicious — and large. I was also impressed with the macaroni and cheese that had been cooked in its own bowl and served hot. The menu offers brunch items all day on the weekends. Bar area has signage asking that all be over 21 in the restaurant after 8:30 pm. Very impressed with this local restaurant.
