LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! The food here is incredible and always so fresh. It’s located in a cute little shopping ares so when you’re waiting for your table you have some where to walk around and sit. The servers are all very friendly and are attentive. I have zero complaints about this place.

amazing sushi every single time. Tip included in bill, I think that’s the way to go. Service is always impeccable. I miss having a real sushi bar, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.

I have been a loyal fan of Sugarfish for some time now, and I must say that this is by far my favorite location. This location feels warm and cozy compared to the other locations. Service is great and of course, the sushi never disappoints. Love the simplicity! Fresh fish and warm rice that melts in your mouth.

This IS the best sushi in Los Angeles! No lie! I’ve been to 5 star places like Nobu’s in Malibu, and various other upscale restaurants that specialize in Sushi and this little discrete spot at the Commons Mall in Calabasas is better! Bonus points for being half the price too!

I agree with a lot of the posts here — simple yet enjoyable. Good location and awesome service.

Host tried to sit three grow men in a two person seat. Then, when we asked for a three person seat the host told us they sit football players in that seat all the time. Sure they do … Bad experience

Excellent Dinner! SUGARFISHCALABASAS Simple perfect Quality Sushi & Sashimi. Toro Hand Roll is Best i ever had! Seeet Toro so fresh and tender and Sweet. Yellowtail cut roll delicious. Ahi sashimi was sweet with a lovely ponzu sauce. Some of the rice was undercooked, however fish was the Star and the simplicity of having a restaurant with fish, seaweed, rice and sauce is genius. Don’t expect Hot Food here, the rice is warm but thats it. Dont ask for anything extra or miso soup! Its not their thing! You must try Sugarfish if you like FRESHHIGHQUALITYFISH ! SERVICEWASGOODNOTGREAT

Be prepared to be ruined for other sushi experiences. This place is incredible! Sugarfish has a very simple, straight forward menu. There is nothing fancy, nothing fried and no massive rolls with 15 ingredients. It is simple, elegant, fresh and very delicious! There is a wonderful balance of flavor between the fresh fish and warm rice. Everything melts in your mouth. You can order right off the menu, or try the ‘Trust Me’ preset meals which come with a great assortment. Either way, you can’t go wrong. The staff is wonderful! They are really friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. They do not take reservations. We typically give them our phone number when we put our name on the list, and then walk around the Commons for a while. The wait goes pretty quickly.

Came in here and requested a table for 3. There were tables available but she didn’t want to seat us until my 3rd friend got off the phone which had an important business call. I told the lady let me sit down we will start ordering until he finishes. She said no I’m sorry I can’t! What kind of service is this!!! Maybe they should stop working like robots!

3.5 stars really, but leaning towards Yay! I’m a fan because of the customer service. I wanted to LOVE this place, and I see its potential, but it still needs a bit of maturing. I sat at the bar and immediately sank down into the chair. I mentioned that the seat was losing its cushioning so they switched out the chair for me. However, I heard the manager discussing that new chairs were being made so there wasn’t anything they can do for now. That is not a great solution for a restaurant because that means that one customer will have a bad experience. Minus one star there. Sushi was good. I got the Nozawa because I was starving but still recommend sharing it if you can. I asked about the Daily Special, which was Unagi. For some reason I thought I never had it even though it is very common, so I asked the waiter what it was and the waiter explained that it was eel and asked me if I had any more questions. The tuna sashimi, albacore, salmon, Toro Hand Roll and Blue Crab Hand Roll were superb. Service is very attentive but a bit frenzied. This may be because I was sitting at the bar and could watch all of the orders being made. The yellowtail sushi was a bit off, but when I mentioned that to the waiter, they immediately provided me a full order with a very good cut which illustrates excellence in service. Plus one star there. Because my experience was very good but not memorable, and the price of the sushi is very fair, this seems like a place I could frequent on a regular basis.

The best thing about this restaurant is the all you can eat genuine imitation California crab rolls. NOT! Please do not come here, or rate this restaurant, if you are used to an all you can eat sushi restaurant or discount sushi bar. Come here if you want your toes to tingle and your palate to dance.

I’m a frequent visitor to many Sugarfish restaurants in so cal. I’ve been to this location around 10 times and the food is also great and consistent. This location is in the Calabasas commons so parking is ample and free. Customer service is always great. The biggest downside to this location, as it is with the other locations, is that it becomes very crowded at night. Wait times can be 30 minutes to an hour at night.

When I first looked at the menu, I was a little taken back by how little was on it. I’m used to those giant sushi menus that have way too much on it. I love how SUGARFISH is more restrained. I love a simple it is, but at the same time complex. I love how they have taken Omakase, and broken it down int Trust Me menus, great how it’s translated for us. This place is great for dine in, but their take away boxes are perfect as well. There is no tipping here, instead they add 16% service fee onto the bill. I will definitely be back.

The staff was extremely friendly and answered all of our questions, the food service was very prompt. As far as the food itself, the quality was top notch, but sadly, several of our courses were over sauced or we got a mouth full of salt. I’ve heard some amazing things about this place, so I think it’s possible that we just got a chef that was new or something. I’m not knocking the freshness of the food or the flavor combinations. Some of the food was like biting heaven. I’m no food snob, but were really overwhelmed that the seasonings were so off. Ok… and this is a serious problem for me. I’m not a huge person, neither is my husband. But the seating is cramped to the point of annoyance. We sat against the wall where the«booths» were. It’s basically a row of seating with no separation between parties. To squeeze in to your seat, you inevitably have to stick your butt directly into the stranger’s face at the next table. You have no privacy while dining, and that’s not a pleasant thing when you are seated next to two extremely obnoxious college girls that want to talk about their diaphragm during their meal. Just saying, not great ambiance for a birthday dinner. There is a fine line between trying to maintain efficient dine in capacity, and crowding us in like cattle. Not a total loss… But the seasoning and load of sauce, something to work on. A little quality control will remedy that.

My friend has been talking this place up to me for quite some time now. I have eagerly been wanting to try it the next time I had my sushi crave. Today I had my sushi crave so I decided to come here and try it. The first thing I noticed is the place is quite small. The problem with that is the wait time was quite long. The upside is it’s right in the commons promenade of Calabasas which my friends and I walked around, while we had to wait. Once they called us, they guided us to the table in the middle. It was a good table for 4 people as it was quite roomy. The waitress who came to help us was quite friendly and explained the menu to us as we told her its our first time here. She recommended me The Nozawa as she said its one of the most popular items on the menu. The Nozawa is basically a preset combination of sushi, hand rolls and cut rolls they have chosen. The sushi was pretty good, however the cut rolls and hand rolls were nothing special. It tasted a bit dry. Once we all finished our meals, we asked for the check. They miscounted our cash and my friend who put his card was charged way more than he should have been. Once we asked for the receipt back, the guy was hesitant to give it back to us. After receiving it, we pointed it out and after he spoke to his supervisor they finally fixed it. That was not professional at all. My expectations of this place was definitely let down. The sushi nor the service was not nearly close to what my friend described.

Curb your enthusiasm. This was My first time to Sugar Fish… because of its fame, and of course, choice and recommendation by friends. I’ve heard a few stories about its style and originality. And I’ve read all the 4 – 5 star reviews prior. Naturally, I had high expectations. Now, the experience. We were a party of six. But only the two of us arrived on time. By Sugar Fish rule, the host could not seat us till everyone was at the door. This is totally reasonable. We waited till there were five of us present, and #6 was a few minutes away(parking n stuff). Well, it was struggle for the five of us to be led to the narrow table of six. It was like a huge«favor» or «exception» by the management. Seriously, that 5-minute wait on the little empty chair was causing financial loss of ??? Managing business by principle is one thing and having the courtesy and common sense is another. While making decisions about ordering, we asked if we could have any appetizers first. The answer: we only have edamames(green beans). Sugar Fish doesn’t do appetizers like tempuras or teriyakis. Well, there are two ways to interpret this: you are either a truly traditional(orthodox) sushi bar that cuts fish in excellency only, or just another franchised restaurant with limited menu. I was hoping for the former, and couldn’t wait to taste the best cut sushi with my drooling mouth. And, the selection of sake and beer were also very limited. For beer, Sapporo was the only choice. Of course, the next rule was that EVERYONE would have to order at the same time. Otherwise, the kitchen wouldn’t make it. We were a very hungry gang by the time we got ourselves together and received food. We simply ordered multiple sets of the popular combination plates called«Trust Me» and«Nozawa Me.» The knife work on all the sushi pieces were very mediocre. You can see clumsy edges and shapes. Nothing mastery. Fish was all fresh. The tuna sashimi in the combination were tiny little portion that came in tiny little saucers. By no mean they were«sashimi» like the ones you have in a normal sushi restaurant. They should just be called«spoonful of poke.» All the rules and limits don’t really deliver«authenticity.» They seem to be pure convenience for the management. Am I pulling a Larry David here? Perhaps. Because I have had much better sushi experience elsewhere with the same buck. Decent, but not thrilling like it’s supposed to be.

There are three«Trust Me» choices that you can choose from, each one offering more than the next. I chose the mid sized one, and I was pretty full by the time I consumed all of the dishes. Except for the shrimp, I enjoyed all of the pieces. The shrimp had an unpleasant sauce on it. I would definitely come here again. There are a lot of stores in this plaza, so it’s a nice place to come a little early and pass through them and then have dinner.

We came for Dine LA week for a set lunch menu of $ 20 a person. That included all that you see in my pics. :) The sushi was really good, I loved the albacore and scallop that was drizzled in some tasty soy sauce combination. I wish it’s kid friendly but it isn’t. The regular menu has a similar offer at $ 25 a person with almost the same items with a couple of more pieces of sushi, so if you miss Dine LA prices try the«light» menu it’s the same thing. It’s small inside, we came around 3pm and it was full.
