Saddened to learn this place closed down. We came here consecutive nights and got food to go one morning in October of 2014. Everything was on point, from the steak to the asparagus appetizer to the incredible breakfast pizza. All the employees were very accommodating and this is just what we were looking for while staying in Bushwick. Everyone in our party of 9 enjoyed dining here on several occasions.

So so sad this establishment has closed. It had such great potential. The coal oven was amazing and it’s history was amazing as well. The owner invested a lot to get it back into use. I read about the reviews before becoming a guest. The pizza and bread were wonderful. I asked for a tour of it’s underground and got one. I felt nostalgic even though I didn’t live in the era the coal over was implemented way back in the days(google it). In the winter when it snowed the ground in front of his business would always be cleared of any snow because the coal over was underground. The owner was social with his customers. I’ll miss this place. BTW, I traveled a ways to visit and would have done it over and over again. The only con was parking. Oh yeah, and he had a brick oven in the back yard for the summer where some came to watch movies at night.

This place was a gem in the neighborhood. I hope that they will re-open. It had a unique atmosphere(when the music wasn’t too loud– which would be my only complain!), pizza was amazing, kale salad terrific and generous in size. I loved it. Will it ever come back? We need so badly places like this in the hood!

There are few new establishments that fit into the surrounding neighborhood as nicely as this one. Built on the site of a former bakery or pizzeria, Verde Coal Oven utilizes an existing brick oven that was previously used by either a bakery or pizzeria. Very cool. Now, for the food. The pizza was perfectly rustic and delicious, with a menu that contains such a wide assortment of delicacies, you might think you’ve time-warped to Italy. The owner is a pleasant fellow who is happy to share details of his superb restaurant. He also knows his wine, so if you’re looking for guidance, you’ve come to the right place. Also, check out their Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu. In the past, it has been amazing.

I live right near this place and it’s dangerous! The stuffed artichokes and the roasted cauliflower are excellent appetizers. I am in love with the verde calzone. The margherita pizza, the mushroom and sausage pizza and the lucky Charlie are great. The lucky charlie is a new favorite!

Cozy, quaint and in the neighborhood. I love their happy hour prices, I believe it’s half off wine by the glass and half off all beers. Their brick oven pizza was authentic although the crust was pretty thin and not as hearty as I prefer. I will definitely be back for drink and brunch.

Myself and my boyfriend live only a few blocks from here and had been meaning to try it out. We went here the other night and it was awesome. The bolognese pizza was delicious and we tried the stuffed artichokes as an appetizer, which were also incredible. They ran out of a lot of things by the time we got there, but other than that it was great. We will definitely be going back and making this our regular pizza place.

*Gee, Unilocal. Thanks to your photo gallery I called this establishment up to ask if they make heart-shaped pizzas and the person who answered acted as though I asked if they shave bits of human flesh instead of sprigs of basil on their pies. Needless to say, if you’re coming here on the notion they will make you a heart-shape pizza — think again. Really charming restaurant. Small number of tables and wise lighting choices make Verde Coal a neighborhood destination for date nights. Our waiter was gregarious and attentive(until it came time to receive the check which my date didn’t mind — He noted that it added to the ‘date night’ atmosphere. Nobody wants to be rushed out of a romantic date.) and the food was very good. I had the Butternut Squash Medley — Chunks of fresh balsamic glazed butternut squash in an adorable tiny cast-iron pan with pistachio pieces. While cute, cast-iron retains heat forever so by the time my date was finished with his Margherita pizza I was still blowing on my bites. Nonetheless, a super satisfying dish and back to the pizza– Depending on your appetite, I bet one person cold easily eat one pie to themselves. Come hungry. I’m the Delivery Queen but this place is too lovely to pass eating in.

Really outstanding pizzas, delicious salads, fabulous calamari & a lovely ambiance. Would have given 5 stars but they need to step up their delivery game… I advise dining in or doing pick-up.

WATCHOUTROBERTA’S! Oh what a hidden gem! We celebrated my friends Ignacio’s bday here and we had an amazing time! we were about 12 and had the place pretty much for ourselves. The décor is retro(including a working stove top and a fridge from the sixties,) taxidermy and warm earthy colors transports you to a farm far away from BK. The backyard is spacious and has a bbq/fire pit, that desperately needs music!(my only complain) The braised octopus was to die for the pizzas are similar in look and taste to Roberta’s without the ridiculous 2 hour wait. The waitstaff is on point knowledgeable and friendly.

Am currently waiting on an order that I placed for delivery OVER an hour and twenty minutes ago. I have been trying for the last ten minutes to call and check on my order, but the line had been busy. I finally got through to someone, and she said«all our deliveries are out right now, so they should be there soon.» Like OVER an hour and 20 minutes for two small pizzas?!? Absolutely absurd. I hope they’re good. Maybe their eat in experience is better, but their delivery SUCKS.

It took over an hour for my pizza to come(I live like 4 blocks away), smaller than I expected and sorta bland but better when I added my own seasonings. Oh, and the most important thing, it was cold, not even lukewarm. I don’t think there’s any excuse for that. The bread pudding wasn’t so enjoyable either. I won’t be ordering from them again.

Brunch is really amazing. The staff are so great and they have the BEST brunch specials. My boyfriend and I usually go Saturdays at around two. The food quality is excellent and the service is very great. I recommend the breakfast pizza and the French toast. They use really high end ingredients that make it an incredibly impressive place. I feel like I’m eating gourmet food at a budget! Best secret spot in Brooklyn!

Came here as a backup plan for Roberta’s. It’s a small place but we didn’t have to wait for a table. Side note: they play great music here. I was soundhounding every other song to download later. The food was good but not great and portions were average. We ordered the Brussel sprouts with pancetta and the meatballs for appetizers. There were only two meatballs for $ 10 which is steep, although they were pretty good. We got 2 pizzas: sausage and broccoli rabe, and the artichoke with ricotta. I liked the latter more but both pizzas had equally unimpressive crusts — they were too dry and were basically just cracker-like vehicles for the toppings. Personally, pizzas are all about the crust for me so this was disappointing. On the plus side, the complimentary bread and olive oil were fantastic and the $ 26 liter of house wine was very generous and difficult to finish split between 3 people. I’d come back for a casual dinner but for a pizza excursion, I’d go to Saraghina in Bed-Stuy for an excellent thin crust. Or suck it up and wait 2 hours for Roberta’s.

Their specials were delicious, Got a pizza with like arugula, pistachios, white sauce, prosciutto, and crabs legs. Sounds weird but it was amazing, the crust was super crispy and the flavors melded beautifully. For the appetizer we got a very soft mozzarella with tomatoes and garlic croutons as well as the house red. They are right around the corner from my house and always play great music. Reasonable prices for the quality ingredients used, and the owner is very friendly. Atmosphere is great, can’t attest to their delivery service but the dine in experience has always been great for me.

So we woke up feeling lazy today as it is both of our off days and it’s rather rainy in NY. Threaded through these dark Unilocal streets for a place wiling to deliver to my bushwick address(a place that isn’t Chinese) lol. After picture hustling we decided we didn’t want Pizza, soooooo we said eff it. At 12:00 in the afternoon we ordered two main dishes . I chose the beef short ribs … Baaaby!!! I died about 3 times and came back, and then had about 10 foodgasms to follow. Absolutely blew my mind how good it was !!! Stop, pick up ya face and then take the time to roll the FALLAPART tender beef Around in the homemade sauce. Delectable ;) It also came with some hybrid greens(I kid you not) they were literally a cross between broccoli and spinach. broccoli«raub»? However it was BOMB ! Very flavorful !! I looked forward to every bite ! Then cleansed the palate with some garlic mashed potatoes. They were decent & Big portions. The spouse ordered the Bolognese Pasta. Very dry(sorry guys) My babes was so underwhelmed with the dish I had to share mines with her. Even after adding half a bottle of tomatoe sauce I had here at home, it just did not do the food any justice. Loss: 15.00 $ thank god my meal more then made up for the sub par pasta dish . 1 star off because the pasta dish sucked 1 star off because the food came with no napkins, No plastic ware. Not even the side of mozzarella we asked for or the bread I specifically asked to be included. I was not charged for either of the latter but they were both on my receipt. I just didn’t get them. Fast delivery. Loved the ribs and I can’t wait to go dine in and try some of the creative pizzas. Will def be returning to support this local business again. I’ll just stay away from the Bolognese lol

I’ve been back to Verde so many times in the past few months and realized I needed to update my review! It’s become my go-to restaurant in my neighborhood for both dinner and brunch. Their brunch menu can definitely compete with the other great brunches in Bushwick and they now offer an unlimited mimosa deal! It was their pizza that really won me over though. Dinner here is very affordable and the ambiance is so lovely. It seems to be getting more popular but I’ve never had to wait for a table. I’m totally in love with their pizza with ricotta and artichokes– it’s amazing! My boyfriend had great things to say about their pasta as well. The staff is just so friendly and accommodating. While I originally felt that their brunch menu is somewhat small, I no longer find it to be an issue since the dishes are so well crafted and they have been wonderful about working with me on veggie substitutions for meat dishes. When I went for dinner we ordered a bottle of white wine and our waiter was happy to keep it in a bucket of ice for us. The more I go back, the more I love this place!

Verde Coal Oven is a great place indeed. From the first second you get there, you feel that special atmosphere of the«Old Italy« Antique furniture, beautiful back yard and absolutely stunning«Private Dining Room’. People that work there are super cool. And very friendly owner, He is always ready to give you his time and guide through his restaurant. And of cause the main reason i put 5 stars is the food. Am not the biggest fan of the pizza, but ‘Bella Parma«is delicious. Also strongly recommend to try Octopus and short ribs . Was there already couple of times and certainly will be back.

Wow! Short ribs! WOW! Service is great and food is amazing! Charlie, the owner, is very gracious and kind. I take my brother and groups of friends here regularly. This is not the kind of place you order delivery from, this is an eat-in establishment. The food is high quality and doesn’t transport well. Please give this place a chance!

What does this coal-fired pizzeria place and McDonald’s have in common? Strict adherence to meal times. On Saturdays and Sundays, no «dinner pizzas» are served until after 4 pm. Having to choose between the two brunch pizzas does make it feel like I’m reviewing the restaurant with one hand tied behind its back, but since that was on offer, that’s what I’ll have to do. I chose the more traditional breakfast option, which came sausage, potatoes and multiple full eggs cracked on top, like a Georgian Adjarian khachapuri. It sounds heavy, but crisp, thin crust made sure it wasn’t too much of a meal. I did wish for something to counterbalance the diary on top, perhaps more sausage or a bit of spice. As presented, the flavors weren’t really in proper balance. The restaurant was empty when I arrived, although another couple drifted in about an hour into my meal. Which makes the inability to order off the regular menu(I was really hoping to try their Diavola, or spicy sausage pizza) even more strange. It’s not like the sopressata gets dropped off every evening at 3:30 p.m. And here’s my frustration boils over. About half way into the meal, a takeout order came in. The waitress — who was also working on the counter — said that they were only serving brunch, but could make any pizza for takeout. Why? Roberta’s or Di Fara, pizzerias that are incredibly popular and have real crowd control problems, are certainly entitled to shrink their menu to be more efficient. Upstart pie operations on Bushwick’s fringes really should not.
