Save On Fifth

Yes, I am a fan. In fact, at home we have a little inside joke about this place. My boyfriend would ask, hey, where did you buy this and this? The best $ store in Park Slope? knowing that my answer would be yes, and it I meant Save on Fifth $ store in all seriousness.
I also agree with other (positive) reviewers that you actually need to know how to shop here. I make a list of things I need to get for the house. Its the little stuff that we forget, so it is good to have a list handy, otherwise, you will be leaving this place $ 50 + light each time…:)
Very little stuff is overpriced. I do not see many fakes — this is not the kind of store that will have Loreal or other luxury products that China would be busy to make knock off’s. Otherwise, they have nothing worth faking. What this store is great for are small and useful items, such as hooks over doors ($ 1.99−9.99), Ikea style glasses ($ 2 – 2.99), toiletries, plastic lunch containers ($ 2.99−5.99), soap refills (Method-​$ 9.99), organizing trays, etc. I come here and I occasionally get something for the house, whether is it OXO product to keep the drain clean, kitchen towels, steel wood, or a replacement head for my mop. The people who leave bad reviews are likely one time customers, who are not even from the neighborhood. When you are back in town, give it another chance.
The staff is nice too. It is also refreshing to see that all of them have been there for years. This one guy at the door is always cracking jokes, which is hilarious. He would occasionally say: Have a nice day… see you soon… maybe tomorrow? LOL You would think to yourself, nah, I am not going back at least for another week or two, but you find yourself back again next day. LOL

I love shopping at this store. They have everything one could want for the apartment, and at excellent prices!

Warning! Don’t be fooled by variety and cheap prices of items. But most — don’t believe your eyes. Brand names you trust are all fake here, quality is soo poor. Worst thing is, is that regardless of their store return and exchange policy you won’t get your money back. Their manager Rajon will talk to you extremely politely, but suggest to come back to talk to another manager.” who will help you”, but won’t give you the name of the «right manager». Save yourself from hassle, go to 99c store or buy real stuff, even if you spend a bit more.

I’m a big fan of this place because the staff is beyond friendly. Yes, they want your money, but it goes beyond a «How are you?»
Twice, the guy at the front door initiated a «Are you happy with your life, because I am…» conversation.
I don’t even know what I bought. I was busy being reborn.

This store can be a little difficult to navigate because different products are packed quite densely, plus there always seems to be some kind of shelving happening in some isle that may force you to squeeze past employees or find alternate routes to your destination. That said, the prices are really great, and the people who work here are truly attentive, helpful, and courteous, so much so that I tend to think of the navigational difficulties as merely part of its charm.

The staff here provide an excellent customer experience. They are always eager to help me find an item. They are polite and always greet me politely. They have a lot of items significantly cheaper than other local discounts. I enjoy coming here because the employees treat me like they appreciate my business. That’s not too common anymore.

With the Park Slope area being so pricy overall (even the groceries are a few cents to a dollar more than what I’m used to), Save On Fifth is a godsend!
This should be your first stop if you need to buy household supplies. I got 3-​tiered spice racks, cabinet wire racks, shower caddy, towel rack, cleaning supplies, cedar rings for my closet… it’s SUCH a great resource to have a discount store here. And I did price check stuff (we all have mobile phones with data plans, right? There’s service inside the store), things are cheap. Cheaper than Amazon, usually. Another example, I got 4 steak knives for $ 3 and they cut food great. 69-​cent rubber gloves. Lots of Pyrex stuff, mason jars, kitchen utensils, LOTS of plastic bins and organizer/​storage stuff.
Before you go to Target or Amazon, I’d check here first. Staff is very helpful too, and there’s a lot of them… so it’s easy to find someone to help you grab stuff on high shelves.

Anyone who doesn’t like this store doesn’t know how to shop here. Yes, they have some overpriced stuff. Don’t buy it! Buy the stuff that is ridiculously cheap! This isn’t a one-​stop shopping place to to buy everything you need, this is a place to browse and find the stuff you need that is cheaper here than other places. For instance, they have rolls of scotch packing tape, in brown and clear, for $ 2.99. Staples doesn’t carry that for less than $ 3.49. And they have really cheap (but good quality) extension chords, dishwashing gloves, picture hooks, the list goes on. Plus, the staff is very helpful. There’s always a guy right at the front who well tell you where anything you’re looking for is.

They almost always have the random things I need. It’s cheap and there is variety. Great for household items and hardware store type items. I come here for my garden goods as well.

Great service, but seriously, these guys have EVERYTHING! Just be sure to ask them where to find it, they help!

They have just what you need, as long as you don’t mind digging around for it. A lot of the little do-​dads and whats-​its aren’t the best but you get what you pay for here, and at a heavy discount it is what it is.

Not only are there constant pricing errors, they refuse to honor them– which is highly illegal. Worse, the State Dept of Consumer Affairs charges $ 25 to even report them!
I used to love these guys, and let a few of these things go– everybody makes mistakes. But you have to make it right. In fact, stores have a legal obligation to do so. Not these guys. I refuse to PAY for the privilege of being ripped off.

I’m glad I found the few things I needed at home here, so I would say that for the prices and the location, Save on Fifth is actually a pretty good place to find random household odds and ends that you might need — cheap brooms, coffee pot, sponges, kitchen items, and other knick-​knacks. Expect full and cluttered (almost overflowing) shelves, dusty corners, and crowded aisles though!

This is a discount store, so when you set out to buy something from here make sure the discount version of whatever you buy will still serve it’s intended purpose.
If that makes sense…
With that, this store is perfect for just those things. Picture frames — I go here, vegetable steamer (great cooking aisle), welcome mat, duct tape, dial scale, all great items to get here. They have the best prices on all those things and I don’t mind buying second rate stuff when they serve simple, mundane purposes. As long as you play by those rules, this store is the absolute best in the area based on the price and their ability to cram a walmart into a store ¹⁄₁₀₀^th the size.

Favorite discount store in the neighborhood. With a great staff– that is super helpful. Awesome place for things like fans, shower curtain liners, tupper wear and lightbulbs.

Ok, so I agree with most of the posts here. Items are not always the best quality in the universe, BUT I can buy a ton of stuff there for not a lot of money and still get my monies worth. Example, I needed a sand up dust-​pan. Solution — Save On Fifth for my industrial size stand up model at the great price of $ 5.98. It’s working out fine, I would have paid three times as much if I had gotten the same style from another store. Hanes socks? No problem! Sewing notions? Halloween costumes? Umbrellas? Hardware items? No problem!
I am not crazy about every part of this store, but I get what I need at a decent price and I’ve even had the chance to hear my child singing holiday songs over the microphone. Where else can that happen while I’m shopping for kitchen stuff? Come on!

This place has basically everything! But expect to pay more here than anywhere else. Especially for cleaning products & laundry detergents

A bit of rummaging and you’ll find something you actually need without treking all the way to Target from South slope.
I have found Brita filters, laundry bags, and other random household needs. They also have a limited selection of hardware, beauty and bath, and definitely stationary at all times. A great place to get holiday items for sure. That is always changing.
The staff are very friendly as well and will help you find something.

EVERY discount store should be as great as Save on Fifth!
1) Their prices are hard to beat. I compared a bunch of toiletry items, and they were al 30−40% less expensive than at a chain like CVS or Duane Reade.
2) The men who work there are just the friendliest people. They greet you when you walk in, ask how you’re doing, and tell you to enjoy yourself while shopping. Seriously, they’re the NICEST! Some people have said that they are over-​the-​top in greeting you, but I disagree — I think it’s a welcome change from, say, Rite Aid (where they ignore you) or Target (where there isn’t a salesperson in sight).
3) For those of us in the neighborhood, it’s supremely convenient.

Holy shit, have you seen the Target at Atlantic Terminal? It’s a problem. A huge, sucky, horrible problem that I feel warrants a detailed letter to the head of Target in Minneapolis, MN. Its a crime against nature, and only a fool of epic proportions will set foot inside it. This, coming from a girl devoted to Target. It’s the pits.
Save on Fifth: The answer.
First of all, they greet me wholeheartedly every single time I walk in to the store. Seriously, every time like I am their long lost sister. There is a man at the front of the store and even though I know he is up there to keep an eye on things and make sure nothing goes «missing» he really could be mistaken for the «Greeter» function that they typically hire 90-​year old cute men and women for at Walmart.
This ain’t Walmart though! This is like a coat closet at Walmart. It’s small. It’s crammed. It’s like every other store like this in this cramped city. But, they’ve probably got everything you need, and everything you don’t need all in one place.
Just like Target, but without the sometimes cute clothes.
So when I need cleaning supplies, hardware supplies, a reading clip-​on lamp, bouncey balls, umbrella, dog toy, dishtowels, face cream, toothpaste, storage containers, a teapot… you know, I check here first. and 9 times out of 10, they have it.
And it has greatly reduced my trips to Target… not only saving me money (the prices here are fair) but a huge, tightly packed headache.
