Leopoldi’s True Value Hardware

Unless you are building a house from scratch, forget the big box stores and head to Leopoldi’s Hardware. Their product selection is excellent and the service is unbeatable. This family owned store is a true Park Slope treasure.
I recently asked them about a leak on the outside of my toilet tank. Instead of selling me something I didn’t need, they suggested I just lower the water level in the tank. This is the kind of honesty and know how I have come to expect, and always receive, from the folks at Leopoldi’s.

really like going here to get things i need to fix or add around the apartment. as soon as i go in there someone asks if i need help and i always do lol. then it takes two seconds for them show you what you need. nice bunch of guys.

This place is the best. They are better than Lowes and Home Depot combined. They always have what I need and there are actual people who are knowledgable and happily willing to help me with my projects. I don’t know what I’d do without them.

My favorite hardware store.

They always have what I need and more importantly know what I need when I don’t know exactly what it is that I need. Seriously the most helpful and knowledgable staff you could ask for at a hardware store, and they treat you the same even if you’re just buying like 5 screws and a sheet of sandpaper. A good old fashioned neighborhood small business that I take pleasure in supporting.

I can not say enough good things about this place. They are the most helpful store I’ve ever been to. They will help you find anything you need, from the most obscure nut, screw or bolt to the right kind of glue, easily and quickly. They know their business– they’re a family business and it shows, a real old-​school place in the best sense of that word. You need just one screw? Not a whole box? And it’s a weird size? Then you’ll buy one screw.
And i have to give a major shout out for this. I had a plumbing crisis. on Christmas Eve, no less. And I called them and they had a plumber here in less than an hour. They are miracle workers.

The staff is extremely helpful. They know screw sizes and stuff.
Physically, the store reminds me of being trapped inside of a dusty attic full of men… but then, I look around and realize… I kinda like to feel smothered by a dozen of dirty handymen. ;-)

As I watch my old Brooklyn disappear, Leopoldis still remains. Everyone who works here are sooooo nice. They are friendly and real. Imagine, no attitude!
I had to return something recently. ooops, my mistake and no interrogation. Those nice folks simply understood. The BEST hardware store here in Park Slope and possibly all of New York. and the best people. Why I may invite them to my next Birthday party. A party with some fellow native New Yorkers. Perfect!

This store is a landmark within the park slope neighborhood. A family run, friendly, and professionally maintained business that has been here for decades and will continue its tradition of excellence long into the future. I have been coming to this store for about 10 years now, and I have not one single complaint.
When I re-​did my old apartment (paint/​plaster/​sanding/​wall-​trims etc) I gave Joe Leopoldi (one of the owners) a basic overview of what I wanted to do and the space. He gave me multiple options for equipment, materials, and a full walk through of how I should start the project. I guarantee you at a major chain hardware store (lowes/​home-​depot) no one is going to spend 20 – 25 minutes to go through an entire project with you.
From coming in for the littlest thing to making a large order, you are treated the same, and trust me next time you come in they will remember you. I cannot speak highly enough of the level of customer service and professionalism that Leopoldi Hardware embodies.

Best hardware store in the neighborhood. Service you won’t get anywhere
else. Better prices most of the time and I’ll take service over price any day.

It’s my family place, been going there with my dad since I was a little kid. I’m glad they’re still around even with the new Lowes and Home Depot in the neighborhood.

Very friendly and helpful. In fact I’ve been in several times and have always left saying what a friendly place. Today they did not have the size wrench I was looking for and the wrenches were difficult to get to and all sizes were mixed together but still this is a hardware store with a huge selection of items and Yay! I’m a fan!

The customer service here is terrible. With so many choices in the hardware stores, especially in this neighborhood, avoid this place like the plague. Even Home Depot had better customer service, that doesn’t say much beside this place SUCKS!!! I will never shop here again. The store is disorganized and they act like their doing you a favor by answering a question. Besides that they are SOOOOO OVERPRICED! As someone who shops at a lot of hardware stores this has to be the worst one I’ve ever been to. DONT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. YOUR MUCH BETTER OFF WITH A KNOWLEDGEABLE STORE LIKE R&A. I can’t stress enough how horrible my experience was here.

These folks are always so nice and helpful. The first time I went I was on a mission to pick up some heavy duty drain unclogger (Pequa, by the way, works incredibly fast — like Drano on crack). The two men who helped me were very courteous. One of them offered something even more heavy duty than the Pequa, but the other man said that it might corrode the pipes, so I appreciated that he cared enough to mention that.
The next time I went was a month or two later. I had to run out quickly though because I’d lost track of the time. One of the guys literally came out onto the street and said, «I’m sorry. Did you need something?» I said, «Oh, yes, but I have to come back later.» Then he said, «I didn’t want you to think we forgot about you.» Who does that?

I love this place. Leopoldi’s embodies everything that is great about old school, family owned and operated small businesses that have continued to thrive in the face of the significant transformations that are occurring all over this city. As one of their many signs states, they have been serving Park Slope since 1966. That’s before the summer of love! Respect.
At first glance, it may appear that things are in disarray and that this place doesn’t have their shit together, but let me tell you, that’s not the case. Sure, it’s super cramped inside and some of the items have probably been in their respective spots on the shelf, floor, etc, since before Y2K, but I defy you to ask for any product that would have a rightful place in a hardware store and not find it here. Don’t be mistaken, this is nothing like your cookie cutter Ace Hardware or Home Depot kind of establishment. It’s intimate and personal, the owners and the staff know many of their customers by first name, and there’s a convivial vibe whenever you go inside. I love that about this place.
Most importantly for me, I need help a lot. I don’t have a ton of tools or a lot of «handy man» sense. These skills were never passed down to me by my old man, so my knowledge is limited to what I’ve been able to cobble together myself along the way. With that said, I can be brutally honest when I go in here and admit I have no idea what I’m doing, and they never bat an eye lash, let alone make me feel stupid or embarrassed or god forbid, unmanly. Everyone there has always been super friendly to me, extremely helpful, and full of great recommendations on products, techniques, and so on. Leopoldi’s is truly a neighborhood gem in every sense of the word.

Very helpful staff! If you’re not sure on how to fix something they are always willing to tell you how. It’s great to see this store still around considering a lot of the original stores in Park Slope are no longer here.

Extremely small hardware store. So small its hard to walk through it. I give it a ⁴⁄₅ due to an awesome helpful staff and that its simply New York, and its hard to upgrade to a bigger store.
