Great neighborhood bistro. Moule frites and onion soup were delicious. Not sure why people ding this place, yeah service is slow and they don’t take cash but hey their French and you know it’s authentic!

Le Gamin is a good spot for a date, meeting up with friends, or coming on your own. I came with a friend for lunch and had polenta with ratatouille and an egg. It was delicious. My friend had a lox sandwich and he liked it as well. Also, the service is friendly and efficient and we didn’t wait long for our food to arrive. You can actually feel like you’re in a café in Paris. I had a good time at Le Gamin and I’ll probably come back very soon at least for a coffee.

Said the wait was 20 minutes. We were sat 1 hr later after everyone else waiting left. Then our food took another hour after the table next to us sat, got their food, ate, and left. Also, surprise… cash only. Food was decent.

Best french fries in Brooklyn. Typical bistro food done right. Nothing special, but great if you want an affordable meal of steak frites, mussels, or a nice fish filet. I’ve been going here a couple times a month for years and it hasn’t changed.

Had a pretty unpleasant experience here this evening. The food has gone way down hill, along with the service. The brie tasted like it had been soaking in dishwater, everything was pretty bland all around(we ordered the burger, quail, and chicken…). To top it off, I’d ordered escargot to start. I was waiting for the bathroom when the waitress stopped at the back bar to gripe to the bartender about how disgusting escargot were and how she couldn’t believe anyone actually ordered it. So, folks, even the waitstaff thinks the food sucks. After she realized they were for me she seemed sheepish and apologetic but STILL. Who does that? Won’t be returning which is a shame since le gamin used to be good years ago.

Mediocre all around. Went for brunch, food was ok. In all fairness, the quality of food was pretty comparable to the average french bistro… but that’s not saying much good. Service was slow and awkward. Also this is a bizarre pet peeve, but I always get annoyed when I need a little extra bread to sop up some eggs and I get charged for it… I get that it’s extra food, but it’s just bread, and in this case, low quality bread. The garden is lovely and the prices are ok, so we may be back for an average meal when we’re short on funds, but otherwise not so much. Also cash only, fyi, but there’s an atm.

Do you want to get Frenched in the mouth with fine foods? Look no further than this place. Located in the quiet and friendly neighborhood of Greenpoint Le Gamin delivers a variety of fine foods that will fulfill your French cravings. As a warning the bathroom at this restaurant provides very little privacy and yet the food is so buttery that I often have to shit right away so you’ve been warned. If you eat a plate of delicious and buttery snails it may be more private to just discreetly dump them out of your body in the backyard. I asked the staff and they said this is totally fine.

Extremely roud and very poor service. We where waiting for our food for over 30 minutes, which was not great, and our check came with the tip included even if we where a table of 3 just because we spoke Spanish. They lied to is saying they always include it and our neighbor table said that was not true because their check came with no tip included. Never coming back.

Sat in the back, smelled like paint, had to go back inside, bad expensive capuccino, not really good expensive French toast, Old crêpe reheated had to send it back to the kitchen and asked to not pay for it. No go!

I came here for an early lunch on a Sunday. The place wasn’t crowded but not empty either. We decided to sit in the patio in the back and it was super cute and comfortable since there was plenty of shade. Our waitress came by fast with our menus and to see if we knew what we wanted to order. I wasn’t in the mood for anything alcoholic so I decided to try their orange juice which was a great choice since it was freshly squeezed. For my lunch I went with a chicken, mushrooms and goat cheese crêpe. It was really good and a very large size, I was only able to eat maybe half. This is a nice place to enjoy a pleasant lunch especially on a hot summer day.

Not the best French brunch food. The crêpe was not that tasty compared to some that I’ve had. The eggs looked dry and out of those liquid cartons you find in stores. And then the service… As bland as the food they served. Would not repeat.

I love this place! I’ve been here many times for brunch and lunch and it’s always delicious! The croque Madame is to die for! Best I’ve had in NYC. The omelets are perfectly cooked and generously filled. The place is very cute and the outdoor area is quaint and pretty. Overall a wonderful restaurant in greenpoint!

It would be pretentious to use French in this review of a French restaurant. I only speak it un peu anyways.

CASHONLY. Food was okay. Big portions. Definitely worth $ 12 for the portions but not the taste. Dressing on the side salad was good. Had to wait long for the food even though there wasn’t many people there. The veggies in my omelette were almost cold. The homefries had no seasoning, just fried potato. The highlight is freshly squeezed orange juice. Over all okay.

I want to love this place but I can’t. The best thing about it is the backyard garden(if you can get a table). The food is good. The service is veeeery slow and they don’t even smile or apologize or anything. Lots of attitute. Also, it’s cash only which kind of sucks. We’ll keep coming back for the garden and keep hoping they will get better someday.

Charming and authentic French café in Greenpoint. Been coming here since the place opened and I always enjoy my meal! Service is a little on the slow side but I am ok as long as I am not in a hurry to do something else. Wait staff are friendly and food is really good! Always very busy on weekends for lunch. There have a great outdoor patio area too. The coffee is fab here, either Americano or Café au lait which comes in a huge cup which is almost bowl like. Thay also put bottles of plain city water on the table and refill when asked. The Croque Monsieur is to die for served with ham, melted gruyère and mesculin salad. The merguez(spicy lamb sausage) sandwich is also delicious with spicy dijon mustard. The burger is also grass fed 8 oz and so juicy and tasty served in a crispy bun with fries. Side order of fries is also a good way to go as they are plentiful and just home I like them slightly crispy. The smoked salmon is another great dish here and also the omlet with home fires. I love this place for lunch/brunch, but not so much for dinner as I had a couple of average dinner experiences.

Visit regularly for brunch. Food is good and reasonably priced… it does fill up quickly around noon. Annoying that it’s cash only, but you can’t have everything.

will come here only on Monday night for the mussels. Not the best mussels I had but pretty decent. Wine is good. Fries too. Cute patio for summer. Will come back next summer for sure.

I really want to give Le Gamin more stars, but I can’t. The service is repeatedly painstakingly slow. The staff is friendly, but either they don’t seem fully aware of the long wait time, that or they’re just not acknowledging that its a problem. The food is pretty good though. I love their quiches, salads and the french onion soup is also delicious, that said, I can’t justify a two hour lunch during the week. They don’t take cash, but they do have an ATM on the premises. They also have Martinelli’s Apple Juice. Delicious. Le Gamin, please speed up the service and I promise to come by more often!

Came here in July and forgot to write a review sooner. There’s an adorable backyard patio like 99.9% of the bars/restaurants in Greenpoint and a decent amount of tables inside. The food was excellent, and our waitress recommended a really nice bottle of wine to go with our meal. There are so many great restaurants to try in the area, which is the only reason why we haven’t been back since.
