First of all, it is in my neighborhood. I saw some guys from the Strokes there once. The owner is super nice and was OK with serving me just pickles and wine a few times. Very nice atmosphere and European vibe.

Don’t waste your money here! The first time I went to casa mon amour was back when they used to serve cheap but decent(alright, a little greasy) spanish food. I just returned there this afternoon expecting the same but was greeted with a new french menu. I thought I’d give it a try anyhow, but was extremely disappointed with the result. I ordered the«Roulade De Poulet A L’Auvergnate»(chicken breast wrapped in bacon) and what I got was 2 small strips of chicken on a plate with a pathetic little pile of sliced potatoes on the side. The wanna-be gourmet garnishing of the plate just made the whole thing look that much more ridiculous! I asked for tea and got a mug of lukewarm water and a dinner style box with bags of Lipton. All I’m saying is, you can’t pretend to be a humble greenpoint joint and then get all manhattan fancy on our credit cards with your meager portions. Their food just doesn’t live up to the prices they want to charge. If you’re going to spend some money on a meal, at least make it a good one, don’t bother with this place. Again, for folks who want a filling meal, this is NOT the place to go. You’ll have to cook another meal when you get home(take my word for it). Also, there was a peculiar smell in the joint, I think they may have a sewer issue or a leak somewhere.

My recommendation is to stick with the safety stuff at the casa: the fatty and the deep fried. Breaded chicken breast and pork shoulder are good and I’ve had each a handful of times over the past year. Plantains are also a safety, both the sweet and the fried. I’ve been there for lunch twice, and the beef stew was all right. Significantly, you can eat there and be full for $ 7.00, with tip. Recently they have started serving brunch, a smart move considering the overflow from brooklyn label, but I suggest you pass on brunch for now. I went with a party of 6 about a month ago. There was another 4-top and a 2-top, and the waitron seemed stupified. I ordered the bloody mary and received a watery tomato juice with some pepper on top, though said waitron did admit it was her first bloody mary. Coffee took 10 minutes to arrive. The food itself was a mess. As with many places in greenpoint, this casa has the kernel of a great restaurant; the trick is to stick with the safeties and give it time to hone its brunch menu and its service.

I eat here all the time and I’ve never reviewed it. Oops. Anyway, I love this place. The best of their food is transcendent. but there are also some menu items to avoid. I sort of understand the mixed reviews. Honestly, Casa Mon Amour has too many things on their menu. You need to order things that are fried. I know you feel unhealthy doing it, but it will be okay just this once. If you had a bad experience at Casa Mon Amour, or you have yet to try it: order the chicharron de pollo and the camarones empanizados and finish up with platanos maduros. This is too much food for two people, by the way, so plan on taking some home. Chicharron de pollo is a dish where pieces of chicken are marinated in rum for hours, then they’re lightly breaded and fried. It can be greasy and disgusting if it’s wrong… but it’s so right at Casa Mon Amour. You might be tempted to order this dish boneless, but don’t do it — it can be too dry that way. Make sure you squeeze lime on your chicken, and don’t ignore the freshly made salsa. The camarones empanizados are the most delicious huge breaded shrimps ever. I can’t say enough good things about them. Platanos maduros aren’t technically on the dessert menu, but they’re what I want at the end of the meal.

This is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. I’ve been there on several occasions and I order in at least twice a week. I love their yellow rice and beans and I also am a big fan of their sweet plantains. The prices are remarkably reasonable and the portions large. It seems the reviews are running from love it or hate it(mostly love it!) but I am firmly in the ‘love it’ category!

You know, it just occurred to me the other day that I had never Unilocaled about Casa Mon Amour. After living in the area for a year and eating there several times, it’s officially time. This place has makes a solid cuban sandwich. I wouldn’t know about anything else they serve because I always go there when I’m in the mood for a cuban sandwich. It makes me happy to know that I can find a decent one in my neighborhood, so I’ll keep coming back for it. I’ve had delivery from this place a few times, and each time was slower than the last. I don’t recommend it. Eating at the restaurant has always beea nice experience anyway, the staff is really friendly.

Horrific. I ordered chicken in wine sauce and what I got I wouldn’t feed to a white supremacist’s pitbull. The chicken was so dry I would rather have eaten strips of shag carpet dipped in talcum powder. The«wine sauce» looked like tap water(but wasn’t quite as tasty) and was filled with large chunks of over-boiled onion. Inexplicably bouncing around the bottom of the plate were thirty or forty green olives that had clearly just left the can. My glass of ice water was the only item served to me that wasn’t too dry to consume. But they are obviously so meticulous in the preparation of their food that it takes a full thirty minutes to reach your table. I am in utter disbelief at the number of good reviews here. I see the one below was written on 9⁄11 so maybe emotions were running high.

Oh my freaking yum. Deliciousssssssssss. Steak and onions with rice and beans, fried plantains, chocolate cheesecake with dulce de leche – all comes to(drum roll please) $ 14.50! And the portions are huge so that $ 14.50 is a satisfying meal for two. Yum. Yum. Yum. Not to mention the owner is very sweet. But! Be warned that they tend to be out of certain things. Suck it up and try something different. Tell them if you don’t like what you were served, honestly, this is the type of place where they care.

DRYANDNASTY! I went here because all the reviews on Unilocal were so good. The food was horrible. I ordered a goat cheese salad & cod fish in garlic sauce. The food is far from fresh. The salad came with a tiny stale slice of bread with a hard, dry and microscopic smear of goat cheese welded to it — I literally couldn’t bite through either item. The cod had a real«Wessonality» overdose, meaning it was soaked in flavorless gobs of oil or margarine. It came with enthusiastically recommended«salami rice» — bone dry yellow rice with almost dessicated salami chunks like the ones that fall out of a pouch of instant soup before adding water. My friend apparently ordered sponge flavored pork which was dry enough soak up the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina. It’s not expensive, but neither is a soup kitchen, which I suspect has better food. Man, I really miss BEAN!!!

Here’s the thing… Maybe I was there on an «off» night(if you consider Saturday at 8:00 p.m. one of those) or maybe all the other Unilocalers who had game night here a while back have glazed over eyes because they were welcomed to hold an event there but the place just didn’t live up to all of the 5 star reviews it’s getting! Went with two other people and for a while we were the only part there. After ordering, the owner came over to tell us that they were out of baked chicken and so she wouldn’t be able to fill the orders of the two other people in my party. They weren’t too off-put by this because yes, she was really nice about it but hey, come on, no roasted chicken at a Dominican place at 8:00 on Saturday… seems kind of odd to me. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and a side of tostones(one of my fave foods ever!!!). The sandwich was good although it wasn’t served on a traditional soft bun that Cubans are usually served on, they pork was nice though as well as the ham and it had an awesome slice of pickle on top! Too crusty though(the bun!) My tostones were good but not crisp enough and needed a little extra, have any of you ever tried mojo with your tostones? That would’ve been the perfect accompaniment to these. And here’s the clincher… on a Saturday night they didn’t have any flan!!! I thought this place had the best, I’m sorry I missed out! I left feeling both satisfied and a bit empty at the same time. I wanted to really love the place, and I’m not going to totally write it off but with so many other great options in the neighborhood it’s going to be hard to go back anytime soon…

Oh, God, you must go but be sure to bring an empty stomach! The food here is so good I always walk in and order like a starved castaway. Everything you order comes in massive sizes but the bill is laughable. The delivery is also equally good which isn’t always the case with other restaurants. They wrap everything up really nicely and stick in all the extras you can think of, leaving me feeling like Casa Mon Amour may be the Dominican mom I never had.

Great authentic menu and so affordable too. It’s a bit of a hike, but totally worth it. The people are so nice so the service is relaxed and friendly but sometimes very slow. Not the cleanest joint. Get the beef stew.

I don’t usually make the trek deep into Greenpoint with all the amazing restaurants I have locally in Williamsburg, but Casa Mon Amour is certainly a reason to make the trip. Casa Mon Amour is family owned and operated and the service is friendly and casual. They are located on a fairly quiet strip of Franklin St, which made for a nice atmosphere while eating on the sidewalk. The beef stew was delicious, in fact my mouth is watering as I write this just thinking about it. Great portions and extremely cheap for what you get.

One Word — Great! Food — Great, Atmosphere — Great, Prices — Great, Owner — Beyond Great Beatrice, owner of this fine establishment, offered us use of her establishment, and boy am I glad we took her up on it. Some great ceviche, kicking plantains, and scrumptious pork sandwiches. And how about that staff. Beatrice, and her daughter Alex(Alexa?) were quick with the orders, and very sociable. They joined in on our games and conversation. It was a very friendly and homey atmosphere. It was basically my first time in Brooklyn(though I went to the botanical gardens once over 25 years ago) And for my first time, they were very gentle with me.

Casa Mon Amour automatically gets 5 stars for letting us have Game Night 3 here! Beatrice graciously and generously allowed us to take up half her restaurant playing games all Saturday afternoon into the wee hours of the night. She is a wonderful hostess who takes the time to not only meet & greet her customers, but also to strike up a conversation and have a laugh with them. She’s also a pretty good Apples to Apples player, when she’s not busy tending to the restaurant! The food is also really good and super affordable! The plaintains were delicious — perfectly sweet, tender and glistening. The flan was also very tasty and I don’t think my bf & I left a single scrap of it on the plate(I wanted to lick the damn thing clean!) And get this, $ 8 for half a roast chicken that comes with a heaping plate of mixed rice! Whoa, are we still in New York or what? Oh yeah, we’re in Greenpoint! What a great neighborhood — tree-lined and quiet, peaceful but not dead. I honestly would have never found this place had it not been for Unilocal and Game Night, but I’m so glad I did. Thanks again to Beatrice, her daughter Alex and their hardworking kitchen staff for putting up with us crazy & loud Unilocalers! Casa Mon Amour is so cozy and welcoming… no wonder we didn’t want to leave!

OK, my turn! First of all, Beatrice is a great lady and a great host and made us all feel welcome and at home. Thanks again, B! I had never had pernil before, so I had it Saturday at the suggestion of a faithful patron, and I think it will ruin me for all other pernil! It was excellent, as was the shrimp asopaDo and the tostones. The tostones definitely satisfied my craving. The flan is homemade and very delicious. Oh, and how could we forget the French wines, and a French food monday with a menu created by Beatrice. It is tucked away in charming Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but that should not stop any Unilocalers from visiting. I know, crossing the bridge is probably a big deal to some of you, but this is worth it, I’m telling you. me, I am just up Greenpoint Ave. in Queens, so I have now found a «neighborhood» place where I won’t give a second thought to coming in by myself to sample Dominican brunch on the weekends. And I won’t forget the pernil.

We had a great time at Unilocal Game Night #3 in Casa Mon Amour. Beatrice and her daughter Alex really made us feel at home. My choices included a delicious Cuban sandwich, made with some incredibly tender pork shoulder, some fried plantains, and a milkshake of some kind(can’t remember what it was called.) There is also a full bar and an impressive wine list, and the prices are very affordable. It’s also one block away from the subway.

Who knew you could have delicious, affordable, sit down meals for under 10 bucks anymore? «Not I,» said the Unilocaler … «Not I» And seeing as how I haven’t had a five star review in awhile, I don’t want to spoil it with any non-essentials. I never would have known about Casa Mon Amour had it not been for Unilocal Game Night 3. But tucked away in delightful Greenpoint is this gem of an establishment. I had a tuna sandwich with homemade salsa on each bite and a plate of sweet plantains on the side. You can’t see me right now but my mouth is watering. I could’ve just had plantains and been perfectly satisfied. Beatrice, the owner, is stellar in her customer service and ability to run a restaurant with finesse and flair but still join in for a couple rounds of Taboo if you’re up for it. I’m a stickler for nice bathrooms and the Ladies is pristine. I also enjoy comfort so imagine my satisfaction to be cushed between fabulously luxurious pillows as I Tabooed my life away. Bottom Line: You must go here. That is all.

being from Puerto Rico(born & raised), I am overly critical of all these restaurants in the city that do «carribean» food. Usually only frequent a place once, then never again… but BOY is this one different! The rice, the beans, the pork shoulder, the«chicharrones»… everything tastes just like my grandmas cooking! Go on Wednesdays for the goat stew, or thursdays for the oxtail… heaping portions, very good prices, and the owner is a sweetie. Desserts are also amazing… try the coco or mango sorbets, or for more traditional fare, go for the flan!!!
