Disappointing. Over $ 300 for 4 people. 2 drinks each, no appetizers, only small(really small!) salads and only 3 of us even got full entrees(we did have two deserts and two coffees). The food just wasn’t that interesting, and some dishes were just bad. One of the salads was so flavorless, it was shoved to the side after just a few bites, and the rice in my squash dish was so undercooked it was crunchy. For the price point, I expect every dish to at least be prepared correctly, and something as simple as salad dressing to be good. The food is presented nicely, as you can see in the photos, but I think this chef’s talent lies more in the idea of the dishes he/she is serving, and less in the execution. The dishes just don’t taste as good as they look. In my mind, what makes a restaurant amazing is the alchemy of the chef, not their knife skills or talent arranging pears on plates. We went on a Saturday night, and the place never filled up. Not sure this place is catching on as a favorite… I can’t say I’d go back, when there are so many better options out there. I like to support local chefs, but this place seems to think more highly of itself than it’s working to actually be. One of those experiences where you’re just kicking yourself for having spent the money. bleh.

Sat at the bar and ordered a drink an an appetizer(that was 3 bites). Spent 30 bucks. I don’t think Greenpoint is ready for such an expensive restaurant for the locals. The service was good and pretty interior, but you will break the bank for a meal.

A feast of a thousand flavors! So glad this is in the neighborhood! The vegetable appetizers were so full of flavor and so vastly different — we had the cauliflower which was crunchy and spicy, and the beets which were perfectly sweet and sour! Then the entrees: I ordered the acorn squash, which — for a vegetarian(and gluten free!) entrée was robust, savory, hearty and filling! Perfectly tender, earthy roasted squash atop a bed of salty, crunchy red rice and the most incredible mushrooms! The table all agreed that I had ordered the best meal and«won» for Best Entrée! I also tasted some fish off my friend’s plate(I asked first! ALWAYS ask first) and it was a very close«second»: her fish was flawlessly grilled, moist, with a slight tang of citrus. And then the dessert came! Let me just tell you, it’s gonna be hard, but SAVEROOMFORDESSERT. The chocolate mousse upped the game by being more of a bitter chocolate than your everyday mousse — maybe more of a dark chocolate? And you just can’t beat a crème brûlée. My boyfriend«finger-licked» the bowl! He’s lucky I was so full, I might have fought him for it. The crème was deeeep and plentiful, and the crust on top was ever-so-slightly salty — if you still haven’t gotten over the salted caramel craze, YOUNEED to try this. It was definitely hoppin’ on a Saturday night, but we felt well-attended to — the manager himself kept refilling our water glasses when they were half-empty(half full?) and bringing more drinks around. There is a homey feel to the large space, but with intimate pockets around the room so you can still hear your friends talking — when you aren’t face down in your plate, chowing down on this delicious food, that is! Can’t wait to come back — I can’t wait to crack into that cocktail menu!

Cassette is a very pretty and rustic venue. The wood bar and other wooden craftsmanship items are very beautiful. I give cassette a three star review because though the venue was nice, the food — we had brunch — was nothing to write home about. First off, they have an item on the brunch menu called ‘Assorted Pastries’ for 3.75 $. I got a chocolate chip cookie for 3.75… I was totally expecting a small basket with three or four little baked items. Not an average size cookie. I had the croque madam. It was okay the over easy egg was overcooked and the bread was burned on the edges. Not the best. I would come back to try the dinner menu by overall not entirely impressed by the brunch menu.

Location and interiors are very nice and relaxed. Went there for brunch, the wait staff super atteentive and helpful. COffee very strong, killer. Croque madame good, buttery and oily. Not the healthiest choice but yummy. friends had Spanish Country Breakfast plate, with massive chunks of chorizo — yikes! and Kale Omelette, which apparently was decent but not super. Worth checking out, but I wasn’t jumping up and down.

Really liked this place, thought the food was outstanding, although the portions were a bit small. Nice atmosphere, solid wine list and friendly service make this a great neighborhood standby.

Excellent service, friendly waiter. I ordered the octopus and the duck, both were absolutely perfect. This place is good for large groups or a date, I loved the candles everywhere. Downside: I wasn’t impressed with their wine selection. Overall, I would definitely come back.

This is another excellent Greenpoint restaurant with extremely friendly and efficient service. Cocktails were made to perfection and served in 50s style coupe cocktail glasses. I had the grilled octopus appetizer that was to die for… NOT rubbery… soft and melted in your mouth. The Rigatoni pasta made with a San Marzano tomato sauce and salted cod was superb. My wife had the duck that was so tender and delicious I couldnt believe duck could be so good. There are also great vegetarian options for those inclined. The desserts were so flavorful… a Chocolate Mousse and Crème Brulee… we shared them and they were instantly devoured… topped off with cappuccino, espresso &/or tea… This place is not to be missed !

I really liked this restaurant and will definitely return when I am in the area. The food was fantastic, as was the service. I had a vegetable and two appetizers. They were all great, but I would recommend only ordering from the left side of the menu if you get three or more left-side items to create your own antipasto plate. I enjoyed the octopus; it had the perfect texture and the pureed chickpeas that came with it were an excellent complimentary flavor, and the dish paired very well with their Côtes de Gascogne.

Enjoyed my meal and service here two days in a row. Avocado toast is absolutely delicious and their bloody Mary’s are not to be missed. So glad we took a chance and walked in.

Came here for their Thanksgiving special dinner because Time Out recommended it, and it was very disappointing. The customer service was fantastic — we were running 10 minutes late for our reservation and they kindly accommodated us. Our waitress was friendly and had a good holiday spirit. For dinner for a party of two, we were given two appetizers, two mains and two desserts(all part of a set course and meant to share). The appetizers included a meats and cheese plate(I’m not too fond of cheese, so I was upset that there was no other option to choose from) and a very plain salad. The main courses were turkey with the Thanksgiving works(cranberry sauce, stuffing, side salad, mashed potatoes) and a squash salad. The turkey was very dry and the salad was beyond boring. Dessert was a chocolate mousse(which was the most bitter, yet not decadent chocolate mousse I have ever had) and a pumpkin pie that Entenmann’s could have done better than. I don’t normally give two-star ratings, but there wasn’t a single DECENT dish, and we ended up paying about $ 50 per person for a restaurant that was very inconvenient. At points throughout the dinner, I’d wished that I just went to a nearby KFC. The still cider I got as well was very odd, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I drank a sip of it and left it alone, and the waitress made no mention, which struck me as odd.

Glad I got the chance to check out Cassette shortly after they opened this season. Dropped by on Sunday around 1 and was glad that we were seated right away. The ambiance was lovely and vibrant but had the low key Brooklyn vibe everyone wants at the end of the weekend. I had the avocado toast with an egg on top and my husband had the poached pear yogurt with granola. The avocado toast was a decent sized portion but in my opinion on the smaller side. The bread was also a bit too crispy. I think they could have used a thinner, wider piece because all in all it felt kind of compact. My husband loved his granola but the portion was teeny!!! They brought to out in a bowl and it was barely half full. He gobbled it up in about 3 minutes flat. I think they have a few things to smooth over. For example no salt and pepper on the table. Our coffees took forever to get refilled and there wasn’t enough milk for both of ours. The service was pleasant and warm so I think they just need a little work. Also, the prices online from their menu were lower than what was put in front of us. Didn’t like this and they should update it. I will be back for sure but will prepare to spend a little more since portions are tiny. But, really glad this place opened in the hood!

Cassette, You guys [the humans running it, not the fabulous wood and kaleidoscope looking décor] are a blessing in this neighborhood. I have local Greenpoint friends who told me to check out a new appealing restaurant in their hood that they refused to try out without me: They’re so loyal. They stressed to try out their brunch this past Saturday. The three of us hocus pocused our way inside, where we were greeted by a charismatic waiter, who then sat us down. Like children, we sat there observing every detail in this rustic like paradise without saying a word, and then finally looked at the brunch menu, which had us salivating. The prices seemed too good to be true! Boy, did they keep me feeling amazed at every bite, portion, and service. This place is going to become one of the staples in the neighborhood, I feel it. I’m usually right about this. Anyway, we ordered a few Avocado toasts, the Arugula salad, the cured Salmon, the Spanish Country breakfast, the French toast(probably the best French toast I’ve had in Brooklyn so far, no need for maple syrup, that’s all I’ll say), and a few lattes. We ended up ordering another round of avocado toasts because they cannot be described in words by a non English Major. I just wouldn’t be able to say enough. First of all, all their dishes are cured and marinated in house, and their spices distinguish them from the rest of the restaurants in the neighborhood. I don’t know what you spritzed in all the dishes, but every bite exuded an inappropriate sound from our mouths. Enough said. Welcome to the neighborhood Cassette! Can’t wait to try your other restaurants.

The place is a gem. A lovely place, quite spacious. We have been there on a Saturday night and it filled up quickly after 8. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food is very good, but the entrée portions are a bit too small. I recommend to begin with starters. The duck is amazing, you have to try it! We also shared several starters, I liked the bruessel sprouts and the salmon tatar best.

Had a lovely date night here tonight and was very impressed. Had expected sort of a typical Greenpoint experience of good food but lackluster service in a small bar-focused environment. What I found was a much more grown-up environment, starting with a sophisticated interior décor with great lighting and tasteful brasserie ambience. Some bucks were spent finishing out this larger than average space(which makes sense seeing that the founder of Kickstarter is involved), and it felt quite authentic. The maitre ‘d is to be commended; very friendly and warm, and got us seated quickly. The server himself was Brooklyn-typical rushed and fairly un-engaged in the service experience — though competent(minus the faux paus of delivering the first course 5 – 10 minutes before the first drinks arrived at the table — thus the loss of one star). The food itself was five star — very well put together, extremely reasonably priced, southwestern French — so a good mix of Spanish and French influences. We had the sheep’s milk cheese, pepper with anchovy, potato salad, and jardinere. All were excellent, as was the octopus dish, which was one of the better versions I’ve had this year. The mains were standout, with a phenomenal dorade with fennel and shellfish broth, and my partner had a duck dish that just tasted light and fresh with great fall flavors. We look forward to coming back soon — perhaps making this our main date spot. I do hope they ask the servers to be a little more engaged with the customers. I know it’s Brooklyn habit to have a remove from this discomfort, but it would really help Cassette stand out to get past this tendency and actually show more of an authentic Danny Meyer give-a-shit focus. It would vault Cassette into the top tier of Northern Brooklyn restaurants.

I am a fan of Rucola and Fitzcaraldo. There are basic problem with the Cassette, however. They don’t serve entrée sized dishes at dinner and the food isn’t good enough to justify the price of a small plates style service. The food isn’t to the level of their other restaurants, even. Kudos to them for their daytime service, which is refreshingly thorough in both hours and selection. They seem to be much more well suited here. The prices and portions are slightly better aligned and the choices are of a higher quality than you would expect given the lackluster and over-priced dinner service. I can see coming back here often for breakfast or lunch, but given the other options in the neighborhood for dinner I’m not sure why I would ever come back here for that. Their drinks service is solid and the space is nice and spacious, not too loud.

Had a great dinner there last night. I was pleasantly surprised as I’d been to Rucola, their other place and wasn’t a fan. But this joint had great service, and a few standout dishes. The salmon tartare was outstanding(which isn’t something you say very often), and the dourade was also perfectly prepared. All in all a welcome addition to Greenpoint. I will be back!

Cassette offered one of the of the most enjoyable dinners I have had in a long time. Nothing pretentious about this place, just really good and well priced dishes that satisfied a wide range of palates. Our server was very helpful and was able to help us land some really excellent dishes. The brussels sprouts were definitely a highlight for everyone and I really enjoyed the duck entrée. A very reasonably priced wine/cocktail menu, with informed recommendations, served as the icing on the cake. The four of us came for an early weeknight dinner and by the time we left, 7:30 or so, the restaurant had a really nice buzz about it. Noisy but never overwhelming. I definitely see myself coming back in the near future either for a lighter tapas style meal or for another go at the entrees.

Friendly, outgoing staff, delicious food — we had the duck and the squash, along with a few appetizers and the brussels sprouts as a side, following up everything with the crème brûlée dessert — all was phenomenal. Highlights were the sprouts and the dessert. Literally only complaint was that the waitstaff was new and clearly training; as such, we had a couple mix-ups with the drinks we ordered, but no worries! Was still delicious. Décor is intimate, menu is inventive and the overall ambiance was friendly and inviting. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Inventive menu highlighting the food of Catalonia. Large selection of small plate dishes. Extra points for having dry still cider on draft. The colorful transoms and stained glass create a warm and inviting décor. Many of the tables have their own nooks; great for a date, or small party. There’s a private dining room too. Celebrated a friend’s birthday here. Staff easily accommodated our group of 22. Have been back several times since. Highly recommended.
