A friend of mine told us about the Dr. Seuss art exhibit at Sarah Bain, so we decided to check it out. Truth be told, I was not initially awe struck about the idea of seeing art by Dr. Seuss. To that extent, I was still interested. I could not expect the experience I was about to encounter. Upon entering the gallery, the rare unorthodox taxidermy mountings were hilarious. They were colorful and gracefully obnoxious. I had no idea Dr. Seuss also created these types of figures. Although the mountings are replicas, they are created using original molds. The original mountings are made of paper mâché and obviously super fragile and rare. The mountings on display ranged from a couple of thousand to several. As I continued through the gallery, I immediately recognized several of Dr. Seuss’s classic stories and characters, such as the Cat in Hat. I was transported back to my youth and remembered positive experiences reading with my parents. I was shocked to realize the impact this complex artist and author actually had on me. I found several lithographs that were affordable, but it was difficult to choose. The Sarah Bain staff was extremely helpful and knowledgable. Daniel provided interesting information and immediately emailed artwork dimension sizes to me. If ever in downtown Brea, you must stop at Sarah Bain Gallery and take a look… it’s free!

While I do own one of the Dr Suess unorthodox taxidermies I had a little buyers remorse after hearing a lot of bad feed back about the Chase Group and how they have modified original work, misrepresented art work and had tried to backdate copyrights. I do enjoy the art work I purchased because it’s fairly unique but I wouldn’t ever buy a print at the thousands of dollars some are going for. I’d much rather own original art work by living artists that is not surrounded by controversy. It is great that Brea has a gallery that does have quality figurative works that can’t be found on nearby art walks. I enjoy the changing variety and wished they supported more artist like Pamela Wilson.

It was nice to see the art work but I wish there were more hats and that they would have been displayed individually in their own display cases. The hats were all displayed in a trunk so you couldn’t fully appreciate each individual hat. and the main hat«The Cat in the hat” — hat is displayed on the bottom of the trunk like it was nothing special. It should be a centerpiece in its own case displayed center stage, the main attraction!

The Sarah Bain Gallery has an incredible array of fine art on display, including the works of Ali Cavanaugh, Alyssa Monks and Ray Turner. They also sell the artwork of Dr. Seuss which kids love but it is also amazing work you can appreciate as an adult. Located in downtown Brea, there are lots of places to eat and walk around. great place to visit and stunning art that you really can’t find anywhere else in north orange county.

This place is divine. Located in heart of Brea near so many shops, restaurants this gallery adds to the culture and ambiance of the city. Its a lot bigger than the last location adding a second floor and more art. They are big for showcasing works of the great Dr. Seuss as other artists. Last time I came they had tickets for visitors for the palm springs art show so got more than what I bargain for. If ever here the staff is really friendly and helpful in answering any questions. Located: Downtown Brea across from movie theater Parking: HUGE lot right in front, and its FREE Restaurants near by like Yard House. Yummy!

Sparse. If I left this review ‘blank’, that would describe this gallery exactly… as is most art spaces anyway. Long visits are not necessary unless checking out nearby restaurants &/or the Muzeo next door – unfortunately closed when I came for a brief evening reception. Highlighted works were intriguing. Featured May-June ’09: talented artist, Pamela Wilson. Her pieces titled: «Awkward Soliloquies», aptly explains my initial stop-by.

5-stars in my book. I’m not a huge art gallery whore, but the Sarah Bain Gallery is my cup of tea. Small, and not too overstated, this gallery is conveniently located right next to Muzeo and the old historic library of Anaheim. It’s an easy walk-through if you’re in the area. The gallery has a nice flow to it and isn’t overwhelming or pretentious. Check out Muzeo as well. They both rotate their exhibits on a regular basis. It is also located next to the Disney Reading Room.
