The 2016 City of Brea Art Gallery«Made in California» was a huge success. Over one thousand California artists submitted entries and eighty-six were chosen. Over one thousand people attended the opening night show. The staff, especially Christina and Helen, were fabulous in setting up the show and terrific in packaging the art works to be returned to the artists. I was very impressed by the artists in the show, so much so, that I purchased a modern portrait painting. As a female painter, I wish to support other female artists, as I feel that often woman do not get the recognition they deserve in the largely male-dominated art world. By supporting and empowering other women, we can build a community of artists that will help women reach higher levels of recognition and achieve their goals with the same level of acceptance, opportunity, and income as their male counterparts.

This art gallery was a nice surprise for me. I was not expecting to see the amazing pieces of art displayed at this venue. The gallery has pieces from up and coming artists; they are different styles from contemporary modernity as well as neo-realism. Most of the best pieces are nominated, which is why they have very awesome displays.

this city-funded art gallery is one of the best kept secrets in Orange County(located in the Brea Civic Center, next to the Nordstrom parking structure in the Brea Mall).(you can walk there from the Target parking lot, or park right under the Civic Center and take the elevator up to the gallery). Quite often, they’re scheduled to be open during a performance in the Brea Curtis Theatre(directly across the courtyard from the gallery), so you can sneak in an art gallery and a theatre performance on the same night… makes for a great date night!

The City of Brea has a wonderful venue for exhibiting art. Their annual Watercolor West Exhibition is one that I look forward to each year. The contemporary gallery is large and easy to find with plenty of natural light. It is also available for rent. Parking is available in the adjacent lot or across from Nordstrom’s at the Brea Mall. They also offer art classes at a reasonable rate. By the way, admission to the gallery is only $ 2.00! What a bargain. Check it out!
