Thanks so much to Thoai! My hair is so much more healthy and stylish! Love the new look! He’s the best. He spent his time and took care of my hair. Bless his soul for spending 5 hours on this style. I never encountered a hair stylist like him before, he’s truly the best! Definitely would recommend!

I had such a wonderful experience with Thoai! I’ve never had someone care and invest so much in my hair. The end result was exactly what I wanted and more! Every step had a reason, every move was intentional and they all made my hair look amazing! I originally asked Thoai about the ombré style and he told me all about this new balayage method. He took the time to explain the differences and his recommendations — customizing everything for MY type of hair. I felt so taken care of! I will be coming back for sure. THANKYOUANHTHOAI! :)

Recently I decided to get my hair colored and without hesitation I reached out to Thoai! He has permed and cut my hair in the past so I was confident in his work. I went to see Thoai about 3 weeks ago and expressed that I wanted blonde balayage. He does cut, color and blow-dry for a very reasonable price. Admittedly, this recent hair appointment with Thoai was nothing I imagined. My hair had turned to a very golden/orange color and what shocked me the most was the amount of dye on my hair. My whole head minus my roots was covered in this unwanted color and perhaps it was clear from my facial expression that I didn’t like it because Thoai wanted to see me in 3 weeks. I won’t turn this into a LiveJournal post but tears were shed on multiple nights and my self-confidence was completely shot. I never realized how much hair could make or break my mood after enduring my first professional hair coloring experience. Anyway! If you’re still reading– there is a happy ending to this post! After contemplating on whether or not to go back to Thoai and after thinking about what I could to fix it(i.e DIY home dye or going else where), I decided to go back. I haven’t met a hairdresser who I really liked and I wanted to make it work. I went back 2 weeks(instead of 3) later from my original hair appt and Thoai and I talked it out. I wasn’t aware there was a difference between balayage and balayage highlights(which I wanted). just an FYI– if anyones looking to go a little lighter for the summer with balayage be sure to specify. With the state that my hair was in I knew I wasn’t going to achieve the style I originally wanted but Thoai made it work for me. He darken parts of my hair and also added some blonde to give my hair some dimension. Overall, I’m very pleased with how my hair turned out! I love tying my hair up because you can really see the gradience of all the color. Hair appointments with Thoai are always solid! I love catching up with him whenever I’m at his salon. I’ve only known him for less than a year but it has felt like forever! Thanks so much Thoai! :) See you soon!

Even tho I live 30 minutes away from his salon. I still go to him. He does an amazing job. When I don’t know what style to get in pretty much an open book to him. You want a perm, bleach, color? He does a good job without damaging your hair. wink wink I’m already a hair model for him.

I’ve been to Thoai several times for haircuts and once for a hairdo. His haircuts are precise and he really understands how to shape hair. My hairdo for my bachelorette party looked good, very Marilyn, but was not the beachy waves shown in my inspiration photo. Overall, he’s a good artist and I would absolutely go back for a haircut. Until today… I arrived for my appointment and was told that the client before me arrived very late and it wouldn’t be fair to her to honor my appointment. Huhhh?! He asked that I come back in an hour or so, and instead I asked that he call me 20 minutes before he could take me so I wouldn’t waste more time waiting around. An hour and a half later I missed his call but the salon wasn’t answering their phone a few minutes later when I called to tell them I’d be in shortly. Oh well, an afternoon wasted with no haircut. I made an appointment at another local salon instead.

I will be completely honest and say that I came in not knowing if I could trust a new hairstylist with my hair. I kept hesitating and hesitating but I just went for it. The hairstylist(Thoai) was excellent, he step by step told me how I should maintain my hair, how he could tell from my hair of all of my habits that I was doing daily with hair and every thing he said was very true. I was able to connect with him and learn more about how I should treat my hair. I can honestly say I found the perfect place for my haircuts and I will share with all my friends and family also! Best hair experience ever! Keep up the good work Thoai!

Since Unilocal insists that moving your business means losing your ratings… I am copying my review on the original/old page to this one: TL;DR: Chu Thoai is amazing, passionate, talented and can work with any hair and make it look perfect and tailored for you – you’ll get a ton of compliments, promise. It’s super reasonably priced/affordable. My favorite hair salon in all of Boston! My mom first took my sister and myself here to get our haircuts years and years ago, with some other hair salons in between. Of all the other places that I’ve tried, my sister and I choose only to go to T & T. Chu Thoai(owner/senior stylist) is, by far, my favorite hair stylist. He is just very talented and very passionate about his work, which shows in his haircuts and in the interaction he has with his customers. He definitely makes you feel very comfortable, no matter what age, walk of life, etc. Just know that when you get your haircut, you’re going to get one that is unique and works for you. He looks at how your hair falls, your face shape, your hair type, your habits and your personality to get you a cut you’ll love and one that will stay that way. He combines a cut you choose/have in mind, with the way it’ll work for you and with you – it will always be something that is perfect for you. He’ll combine the cut you have in mind, maximizing the aspects that will fit you and be perfect for you, with yourself so you can own that hairstyle. For some perspective, I usually go for short haircuts, while my sister goes for longer/long haircuts. My haircuts end up being much better than the one I had in mind going into the salon, and they just grow to look just as good as that first haircut day! My sister’s long hair looks perfectly trimmed and healthy. Basically, he works his magic on thin to thick hair, short to long styles in the blink of an eye, easily. And that’s the thing – any normal person will tell you it is immensely difficult to be so versatile with all the hair textures, styles and what-have-you in this world. But not for Chu Thoai. I always leave his salon feeling like a million bucks. I’m really low-maintenance when it comes to my hair, and he factors that into what he recommends for a haircut/style. That’s why I feel as great or even better about my hair days and months after leaving the salon, because it looks just as good as the day I got it cut. That’s what other stylists should do – really understand what the client’s hair habits are – to maximize their hair potential! And I always receive a ton of compliments after I’ve gotten a cut from his salon, even if it may be weeks later. I can go on forever, but, honestly, I think Chu Thoai deserves a lot more clientele and recognition for the great work he does, so that’s why I’m writing so much. I got my gazillionith hair cut today from him, and I’m soooooo happy with it.(I don’t know how many different short styles I’ll end up getting from him in total, but they’re always different and super cute). Thanks so much!

I have been to many hair salons before I come to t&t. Customer service is excellent and Thoai is amazing. Once you sat in the chair, all of his attention is on you and what you want. Never leave the place unhappy. If you don’t like something, just tell him and he will fix it. Most people just sat quietly and leave unsatisfied because they do not communicate what they want to the stylist. sorry but not sorry. No one can read you mind. Btw he is amazing at cutting bangs!

T&T was very highly rated, but according to Unilocal,if you move you lose your ratings. They are a few blocks away from their old location, in a very nice, welcoming salon. You can see previous reviews here — If you want the kind of haircut you’ve always gotten with banter about the Red Sox, go elsewhere. The owner and stylist, Thoai is exceptional. I have lived in NYC, LA, Rome, Auckland, and Hong Kong. For haircuts– Thoai is the best. The reason for this is because he is dedicated to understanding hair. You will not only get a cut that suits your body and your style, you will learn everything you need to know about taking care of your hair. I highly recommend listening to what Thoai can teach you about hair care. You will be surprised. Make an appointment. Walks in are fine but you will wait because they are usually busy. Because, as I said, Thoai is the best.

Not sure why such low rating… Thoai is my go to guy for all my hair needs. I’ve been going to him for more than a decade. There are a ton of hair salons on Dorchester Ave. but I would recommend T and T hair salon. Thoai is extremely meticulous and really takes his time. He never tries to sale you treatments or products that you do not need. He never rush so sometimes there is a bit of a wait but I feel that is worth the 10−15mins. I always call ahead for an appointment and have never had a problem getting in. He accommodates walk-ins as well.

I don’t like writing one-star reviews but I just had to do it regardless of this being an Asian establishment. First off, parking is a b#%ch to find being street parking and all since this is situated on Dorchester Ave. This is common but inconvenient. Second, what’s the point of a walk-in haircut service if you been waiting for 45 minutes and then have 2 people walk in and you get bumped behind. WTF?! If you don’t take-in«Walk-Ins» then say«Appointments Only». Third, the male owner doesn’t seem as apologetic and caring if you have waited for awhile. He seems to live in his own self-conceited world when he’s not cutting hair. The female stylist doesn’t smile as much as the owner so don’t expect to find friendly faces here. If people reviewing this place say that they are happy, how come the folks who work here aren’t? {O_o} There are plenty of Asian/Vietnamese hair salons down the street and this one in particular you should skip unless you like to wait with a frown on your face like the people who work here. :(

I’ve tried Thoai few times for cut and highlights and didn’t like it. My foils/highlights were too far apart looks like I have roots already. I wanted blonde but he argued saying he can’t go lighter because it’ll damage my hair. I said it’s fine I want it blonde, note that My whole head was already has blonde highlights, so it’s really easy just do the regrowth. I do however gave him credit in terms of taking his time and making sure I’m ok. Service wise he’s excellent… That’s why he gets 3 stars.

Firstly, this is their new location, so I hope every one finds their way here. I’ve been coming exclusively to Thoai since moving to the area a year ago. All the great things you may hear about this place and about Thoai are absolutely true. Thoai truly takes his time to really understand your hair, what you like, and works with you to have your hair looking great. His knowledge and experience make for great recommendations that I suggest you go with it– you won’t be disappointed. Service is great, quality is impeccable, and I’ve been a happy customer every time I’ve come in.
