I’ve written reviews about quite a few types of cuisine. But no matter how much exotic food I pass through my digestive tract, nothing beats a good steak seasoned with salt and pepper and no place makes a good steak like Mooo. Based on the cut of meat you use and how thick it is, you have to monitor it constantly to get the perfect char crust on the outside and a soft, lush pink interior. Mooo uses expensive cuts of meat and they know how to treat it right. An expensive cut of meat is like a really hot wife: You have to keep her happy or you’ll be sorry. Boy, does Mooo knows how to massage a steak’s ego. When it comes out, it’s got a crisp crust and it’s just the perfect thickness for me(in the neighborhood of three-quarters of an inch). The knife scrapes satisfyingly against the char but it doesn’t take much coaxing for the knife to sink into the medium rare interior. The first bite comes off without juices or blood gushing out which tells me that it’s been well-rested. Get the mashed potatoes to go with the steak and you’ll be happy for the rest of the day. For all this hedonism, you’re going to pay a pretty penny. But it’s worth it. The service is great too. Almost everyone who works there is attentive and friendly. I’ve never been to a place where such a high percentage of the staff were willing to make small talk and offer to make me more comfortable. Again, you get what you pay for. Unless you’re with a large group, I suggest sitting at the bar. The bartenders I’ve talked to so far have had some incredible stories. For example, one guy was in his early twenties but he had already traveled extensively and knew two languages. One girl was a former Marine whose military career was cut short because she was hit by a truck. Both were cover-model material. It’s like I was talking to the entourage of the Most Interesting Man in the World. I couldn’t care less that Mooo is ostensibly blue-blood and yuppie. If you can pay and you have a shirt and shoes on, they’ll make you feel at home.

WOW. so this place can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I ordered the beef wellington and the portion was amazing and the food tasted great! it was my first time having it, and it paired so nicely with the recommended red wine. the wagyu beef dumplings are also something you have got to try. the beef itself tasted so tender and was great in the sauce. it’s great for date nights and special occasions. the service was great and the environment felt very elegant.

We came for the meat and the meat disappointed us. That’s what I would say about mooo. Now, to the details: THEFOOD Bread — delicious, fluffy and salty. Who doesn’t love free bread? Wagyu Beef Dumplings — being Asian, I was a little hesitant to order this from a steakhouse. This comes with 5 dumplings. I was surprised that the wagyu beef itself had a very springy texture(reminded my husband of a microwaved meatball). I wouldn’t order this again Beef Wellington and Dried Aged Ribeye — the biggest issue with these were that they were underseasoned. I also wished that there were more foie gras with the Wellington(foie gras lovah here). I did love that the ribeye came with bone marrow butter — YUM! Mooo flight — it comes with truffle fries(sides highlight!!!), mashed potatoes(not special), mushrooms(very earthy) and creamed spinach(so watered down. Not what I expected and not in a good sense. More like a sautéed spinach disguised in creamy sauce). Just get the truffle fries. THESERVICE Our server was personable and funny. I read the other reviews that service can be hit or miss so I am grateful that ours was a hit.

We went for the first time last night for our daughter’s graduation dinner! AMAZING food and service… This place is one of the best steakhouses in Boston! The quality was fantastic, portions were very good. The atmosphere was very chic and private! Check this place out!

We celebrated our anniversary here and it was lovely. A bit pricey, but totally worth it. Ambience: simple and classy Food: DELICIOUS. We both of the small filet and every bite was heaven. I had it done black and blue, and it was perfectly charred and juicy. I drool thinking of their lobster mac & cheese,(I usually don’t like mac or cheese!) Service: professional and appropriate. Our server wished us happy anniversary and left us alone to our private conversation. I appreciate that. Although if I could give my 2 cent worth of opinion, the restaurant can afford to have some real grass on the table instead of the current plastic imitation. Or chia sprout, moss, lichen… anything but that dusty fake grass.

I had a great dinner at Mooo. The Kobe dumpling appetizer its incredible and a MUST have. We also tried the steak meatballs and their delicious bread rolls and those as well, are a must try. as my main I had the steak salad and it was incredible and most importantly it was large in size. I really really loved the salad and I would highly recommend it!!! Thought it was worth mentioning the setting: its more of a boutique/modern steakhouse. try requesting a table with the high backs, those are super pretty to look at and very comfortable. The service was incredible and everyone we encountered was very nice.

Boom! This place is off the charts. Food 6 stars, service 4.5 stars. Working backwards… Devils food cake, Chocolate Mooo Bön, cappuccino all the best you can taste anywhere! The sides; creamed spinach, Mac and cheese and exotic mushrooms, WOW. Now for the steaks; I had one of the filets ever, also a Delmonico, and a grass fed ribeye from Uruguay, can you say«Peter Lugar?»(You get the reference) for starters; shrimp cocktail, potato and leak soup. The dinner rolls were wonderful. We will have to visit again. Great experience.

We have wanted to try Mooo… for quite some time. After being referred by several people, as well as the pure interest in trying it due to a love of steak, we decided to go here when my parents could pay, and went for my graduation dinner. All in all, I was not impressed. While I still give it 4 ratings, I don’t think I would go back. However, Gster and I have not felt overly impressed by any steakhouse. which left us to question… maybe that’s just how steakhouses are? The dining area was very romantic and chic, it felt like a large fancy dining room with comfortable chairs, neutral colors, and dim lighting. However, what really threw me off was the pictures that they had around the resturuant, with large upclose pictures of cows and sheep/lamb. Even though I eat both meats, it just was really bothersome to have a lamb watching you, eat itself. It just seemed a little wrong. Overall, the bread was a 4/5, the sides/veggies were a 5/5, the meat was a 4/5, and the fish a 3⁄5. The bread looks like a roll(Which I typically don’t like), but was very doughy, with delicious butter salt on top. I have not had anything like it before. For sides/veggies we got the tatertots, potato skins, onions, asaparagus and spinach. All were delicious with lots of flavor, cooked to perfeciton, and with a unique twist. It made eating veggies taste like dessert! As for the meats, I decided to go with steak, since we were at a staeakhouse, even though I don’t typically eat red meat. Gster and I both got the filet mingon, and my dad got the beef wellington. While it was cooked to the perfect temperature, the actual cut of meat wasn’t as tender or flavorful as I expected, especially not for the price we paid. My mom’s swordfish tasted undercooked and rather than flaky as swordfish usually is, it was like raw chicken texture. Overall the experience was a 4/5, and while it was one of the nicer places I have been to in Boston, the food wasn’t necessarily everything we expected. Our service overall was extraordinary. We made a reservation on open table and were able to come early and be seated promptly. Our server was friendly, sharing his recommendations, and having lots of patience with our questions. Overall, the service was what you would expect for a 5 star resturaunt.

A great steakhouse in downtown Boston. Nicely appointed dining room and an impressive wine list. Service: Acceptable but could have been better considering the price of this restaurant. 3⁄5 Food: For appetizer we had tuna tartare and the Kobe beef dumplings. Tartare was exceptional and was nicely garnished with a black sesame seed cracker. Steaks for entrée were quite good. We also had the cauliflower side which was beautifully cheesy and crispy. 4.5÷5 Ambience: Quite a dark room with background electronic music which somehow seemed fitting. A good mix of older and younger people. 4⁄5

Food: 3.5÷5.0 Service: 4.0÷5.0 Value: 2.5÷5.0 Décor: 4.0÷5.0 Overall: 3.5÷5.0 I confess that I went in with mixed expectations and leaned towards throwing a little shade as I walked out. But the truth is that Moo serves a very well-cooked and high quality slab of meat albeit at a Beacon Hill price. If my porterhouse was just a little warmer(I guess it sat for a few minutes either resting or waiting for some other steaks to cook), this would be 4.0÷5.0 on food. The bread was pretty good but the salt was too much and it was a little too soggy on the bottom. Thank you to the family Cua!

I used to go to Moo at least a couple times every month but I’ve been going less and less. I went again this past Saturday, to mirror my previous review, the service is totally hit or miss. The food is always great. We like to sit at the bar and get a bunch of pickies. The mini burgers are always good, never dry and cooked medium… very tasty. Their tuna tar tar is one of my favs in the city. Their truffle fries are insanely good. The kobe beef dumplings are incredible, very flavorful. Moo’s bananas foster is one of my favorite desserts and they make a good martini. The décor is gorgeous although the bar is awkwardly placed. You have to stand in the way of servers and people walking from the host stand to their tables while you wait for a seat. I struggle giving them three stars because I really love the location, food, décor and ambiance but I’ve had really awesome servers there and then some terrible ones. It took us 45 minutes from sitting down at the bar to actually get a drink. The servers were friendly but were either understaffed or just slow.

Went again this year for my birthday. The food was great, so read my previous reviews for insight into that; but the service really was sub-par this time. We made our reservation on Open Table and arrived right at 7:30(a half hour before). We grabbed a drink at Carrie Nation first since we had time to kill(highlight of the night). When we went back to check in at Mooo(right on time), there was a woman in front of us trying to negotiate with the 2 hosts about getting a table without a reservation. While that was going on, my girlfriend waited politely behind her for somebody to acknowledge us. Then, an older gentleman walked in, and one of the hosts proceeded to greet him and his party immediately. At that point I was already on Open Table seeing what other restaurants had an opening since I was fuming. There was no need to ignore us. Clearly in Beacon Hill, it’s age before beauty. When we finally gave our name, we were told they would go check on our table. In the meantime, 2 additional parties came in and were seated before us. After all the other parties were seated, one of the hosts came back and asked what our name was again(he clearly didn’t check to see if the table was ready because he didn’t remember our name). He then told us that they canceled our reservation earlier that evening because of some Open Table glitch. Clearly human error, but let’s be serious — we always blame the computer. They did their best to find a table for us, which we appreciated, since Number 9 Park, Capital Grill, and Del Frisco’s were all booked. Unfortunately, perhaps based on where we were seated, we just never really received attentive service. We didn’t get a refill on water until after we were done eating. My girlfriend asked for her filet to be cooked well and butterflied; it was served medium and not butterflied. Nobody ever checked to see if the food was cooked to our liking until 10 minutes after we were done eating. After they cleared our plates, it took another 10 minutes for a waiter to come and ask if we wanted dessert. Like I said at the beginning of the review, my appetizer, entrée, and sides were all perfect. The drinks were outstanding as well. I wanted to give them a 4-star based solely on deliciousness-factor, but my girlfriend wanted to go with a 2-star based solely on service. Since we live in a democracy, we will average them with a 3-star. Not sure if it’s the clientele or the staff, but clearly Mooo’s culture doesn’t match our own anymore. We want to feel comfortable and welcome when dining out — not like outsiders. I eat lunch at Capital Grill in Back Bay about once a week. It doesn’t matter that I’m only spending $ 20 — they treat me the same as if I was spending $ 200; and that’s exactly how it should be.

I came here for dinner with my friend awhile ago and had a pleasant experience. We were seated and had some nice hot rolls served with butter to start off. We ordered the Wagyu dumplings, half a dozen of east coast oysters, the filet mignon-with a side of whipped potatoes, and the crème brûlée for dessert. The Wagyu dumplings were absolutely delicious! They were teeny tiny, but each bite was full of flavor– and the sauce… was so good, I wanted to drink the bowl. I ordered my steak medium-rare with the Mooo steak sauce. It was cooked perfectly and the sauce combined with the bone-marrow butter added an extra burst of flavor, but the steak is well-seasoned on its own. The whipped potatoes was not anything special– just mashed potatoes. The oysters were very refreshing after eating the steak. The crème brûlée was mediocre at best. It had a thick pudding-like consistency and lacked the vanilla-y flavor that classic crème brûlée’s should have– and the caramelized sugar on top was over-torched. Overall, the food was pretty good, minus the crème brûlée. The service was good, we were seated at the time of our reservation and the server was attentive and quick.

Went here a few weeks ago for dinner with some friends. I’ve tried most of the fancy steakhouses in Boston and this was one of the last ones I haven’t been to. First impression: tiny space! We were jam packed in the small dinning quarters and I honestly have no idea how anyone can consider this spot an ideal business dinner location. There’s absolutely no privacy as you’re basically elbow to elbow with the tables next to you. We had a party of 5 so I was the odd man out sitting at the end of the table in every waiter’s way. I have no idea why they placed us right smack in the middle of the room? It would have made more sense to place us at a table by the corner given there would be someone sitting at the end of the table. Oh well. Ambiance: Cozy. Like I said, it’s a small space, but it’s still nice. That night, it was a packed house on super windy and chilly Friday night so they had the heat blasting so along with the close quarters and packed house, I was sweating. Waiter: He was a Spanish gentleman who was very knowledgeable and had great banter with us. The only thing I did not enjoy was getting showered by his spit as he stood over me to talk to the rest of my table. The caveat of sitting at the end of the table, I guess. Food & Drinks: I was expecting to be blown away with this bread that everyone was raving about but it was just normal warmed bread. It was good, but nothing too amazing. We started off with a dozen oysters, which was decent. Everyone but my cousin ordered some sort of steak. My cousin had the beef wellington, which she also said was okay. I had the rib eye paired with the stuff shrimps. It was also decent. That pretty summed up everyone else’s meal. Everything was just okay. We ended with the banana foster and crème brûlée for dessert. Can you guess how we felt about those(just ok)? Two of our parties got some sort of martini. Same ruling. Overall, this place was unimpressive. It’s just a fancy overpriced steakhouse in a high rent location, really. Food wasn’t anything special and I would rather go to Jimmy’s Steer house and spend a fraction of the money I spent here. Just sayin’…moooving on.

I was invited to a lunch seminar by a client this week. It was held in the Wine Cellar at Mooo. The venue was beautiful! I would love to rent this space out myself — seemed perfect for a celebratory dinner or rehearsal dinner. I started with the Maine lobster bisque. It was fantastic. Buttery, sweet, savory — it hit all the notes. It would have been rude to slurp it, but I considered it. It came with a little floating crescent. Hard to eat, but a nice addition. The rolls they served before our appetizers were very fluffy and perfect for sticking in your soup. As a main course I had the Sirloin steak(medium well) with french fries. The steak itself was good — I probably should have ordered it medium. It was a nice size, and the marrow butter on top was a great addition. The french fries shone– I think they were truffle fries, and if so, they added just a tiny bit to add that something extra. They were hot and crispy. Unfortunately, the dessert(Carrot cake with cream cheese buttercream and carrot syrup) came out at exactly 1:30 — the time when the meeting ended. I had a few bites before rushing out. Pretty good, nothing exciting. The staff was quiet and tactful while they served us during the presentation. They did a fantastic job and were the icing on the cake. Thank you, guys!

Mooo is located in the XV Beacon which is where we were staying. We had reservations to have brunch on Valentine’s Day. We showed up for our reservation right on time and were seated immediately. We started with fresh orange juice which was tasty. Usually I start with a cocktail at brunch, but I had a big night ahead. They served complimentary muffins which were out of this world tasty. I started with the steak tartare. This is another item where if I see it on the menu, I order it. The tartare was seasoned very well and it was served with nice crispy pieces of bread. It was a great way to start the brunch off. As an entrée, I ordered the duck confit hash. I asked our waiter if I should pick that or the corn beef hash. He said without a doubt the duck confit hash. He wasn’t wrong at all. It was probably the best hash I’ve ever had. The duck was so flavorful and it was a perfect component along with the potatoes, peppers and onions. Plus, who doesn’t want an egg on top of all that?! Finally, the service. It was impeccable. He was very knowledgable about the menu and he made the brunch that much better. I look forward to coming back and dining at Mooo.

I’ve had better really sums up my experience here. I had followed this place on instagram and it seemed to be a better quality steak house in Boston so I booked it for a group dinner. I agree with many other Unilocalers that the ambiance is nice though it does seem to attract lots of older creepy men who loomed near our table despite the fact that we had our male boss eating with us. If we were looking for a sugar daddy, this sure wouldn’t be the place. The east coast oysters were great though with a strawberry vinegar topping that was delightful, the bone marrow was okay at best — really small bones with lots of topping that didn’t really add to the dish but instead that took away from the super rich and delicious marrow. The wagyu dumpings were good though it was a lot of gummy outside and very little beef. I ordered the 12 oz filet which was cooked entirely improperly(asked for medium rare) and what I received was an extremely dry outside with clearly no juices running through it, fairly overdone around the outside and then rare little middle part. Bummer to say the least that a steak house can’t execute a proper steak. Other’s found their steaks to be dry and overdone as well. For those who have read my other reviews, I’m pretty clear that if you are a person that gets steak anything but medium rare, I would prefer you eat chicken and leave the steaks for those of us that will cherish it. One friend got the shrimp dish and the shrimp had gone bad and she had to address it with the staff. It smelled to the point that it shouldn’t have left the kitchen. The highlight was definitely the mooo side flight which offered a nice variety of sides with pretty good flavors. Wine and martinis were not bad either, however, they were completely necessary to eat the overly dry steaks. Desserts were basic– crème brûlée, banana fosters kinda thing. Service throughout the night was fine, very attentive and skilled at dealing with a fairly large group. You can probably guess but as a steak and general food snob, I wouldn’t make a reservation here again.

At this point I have been several times… The first few I ordered Shrimp or Fish, I know, I know… Didnt order Steak, and then one night I was like Im at a Steak Place let me order it and OMG… It was hands down the best piece of steak I have ever eaten. I had asked around and wanted everyone’s opinion and came up with Ribeye being the best piece to order, as my steak experience in life had been Texas Roadhouse up until this point… OMG Mooo is unlike any other. All their sides are great, Portions are great for several at a table. The calamari might be the best I have had in a long time. Everytime we go, everyone in our party never has a complaint. I am soo mad that I can never love Texas Roadhouse again because no steak will ever compare. I will just have to become a Mooo regular. Now I want a steak(its 1030 — its not too late right?!) Have shown up several times with more people in our party than previously reserved(as we go alot for work meetings) and they have accommodated us every time. There is also a really cute private room downstairs for private meetings.

This place used to have the best-value lunch special in the city, with a 3 course meal(including a 12 oz steak) for $ 25. The price for this has now increased to $ 35 which makes it less of a steal, but still incredible value in my opinion. I have been here multiple times for lunch and I have been consistently impressed with the service and the top quality of the food. First of all, the space is large and beautiful, and feels elegant as soon as you walk in. Mooo also has hands-down the BEST bread of any restaurant I have been to. Instead of your standard bread rolls, they give you warm, buttery buns salted with sea salt and glazed with honey. I could eat a meal of their bread alone and be happy. The 3-course lunch meal is delicious. I always start with the steak tartare, which is fresh and comes with toasted bread as a salted crunch to accompany the softness of the tartare. The steak is huge(I’m usually too full at this point to eat more than a couple bites and take the rest to go) and come with Parmesan truffle fries. Dessert is usually a chocolate cake, which tops off the meal with rich chocolatey deliciousness.

I’ve dined at Mooo a few times. Most recently, I treated my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner because it is his favorite steak house in Boston. It is a great date restaurant with a nice romantic/elegant ambiance, and I would dine here again. The BREAD may be my favorite part of the entire meal. They come out hot and are so fluffy with sea salt on top. APPETIZERS: We got the Mooo meatballs this time, and I didn’t feel like they were super memorable for me. My boyfriend enjoyed them. If I were to recommend an appetizer, I would recommend the Japanese Wagyu Beef Dumplings. STEAK: For me, this wasn’t the best steak I’ve ever had. That being said, I’ve gotten the filet before and thought it was good, but not amazing. So this time around, I got the Beef Wellington — and that was delicious. I would easily get that dish again. My boyfriend got the NY strip and he said it was very flavorful. SIDES: We tried the Moo Flight for sides and again nothing super amazing. It tasted pretty standard against other steak houses I’ve been to. DESSERT: I haven’t tried dessert here. But I have dined here for birthdays before — so if you are bringing your own cake FYI they do charge you a fee to serve your own cake to you. Even though it is not my favorite steak house in the $$$$ price range, it still deserves 4 stars because food quality is good(definitely above average) and so is the service.

After stopping by Yvonne’s, which was incredibly packed, my friend and I decided to come to Mooo instead of Zen as we usually grab sushi together. When we walked in a few minutes after 7 pm, we were instantly greeted, and I inquired about a table for two. At first we were told they didn’t have availability but then they looked at the reservation and said we could have a table if we were out by 8:30 pm. We didn’t think that would be a problem and were led back to a table but not before they offered to take our coats, which we told them we’d prefer to hang onto. Service was great. Again, this was another meal where the company and conversation were so great, I didn’t really pay much attention to the usual details, but I think they were prompt with taking drink and food orders. I do distinctly remember our server asking if we were on a date or something. I’m not sure if that would have affected our service otherwise… My friend and I decided to split the west coast oysters, which were kumamoto. We also shared the brussel sprouts and tots. The tots were interesting and not at all what I expected. They were filled with parmesan. We each also ordered an 8 ounce filet and were glad we did when I pointed out the 12 ounce at the next table. Food-wise, everything was excellent(at a medium, the steak was juicy, soft, and flavorful), but again, I do wonder how much of my positive association with this place comes from the company and ambiance. The place is dimly light, the volume wasn’t overbearing, and the two of us could quickly speak with one another without shouting. I think they were ok with filling my water, and in the end, I don’t think they rushed us or kicked us out when the clock hit 8:30 pm. On our way out, we were bid adieu.

This steak house is very noisy. The noise is like sitting on a railway station. The service was improvable. Steaks were ok, but not very special. At all it’s to expensive for what you get for the money. There are other places around where you can go.

Back in Boston. After trying Abe’s, Grill, and Morton’s we checked out Mooo… Actually, I liked the name. Interiors is modern, relaxed atmosphere. Perfect place for a date, soft background music, tables are not that close for some«privacy space». The menu offers everything you expect when you are out for steaks. The tuna tartare was just great, the carpaccio marvelous, and the steaks perfect. The wine card offers everything from moderate to really expensive. Clear recommendation for your next steak.
