Went to shaina today with my groupon for cut, full highlight and blowout. The location is excellent and close to the T, and upon arrival I was warmly greeted by the receptionist and Shaina. She listened to what I wanted and took her time. She is a real pro and I love the layered cut and color she did. Jerel was also in the salon and very friendly. It was a comfortable, modern atmosphere and I can’t wait to return.

I’ve been going to Jerel for my hair now about 7 years. He is just amazing, love the color/cut and blow dry every time! My hair is a dark brown and he gives me beautiful, natural looking blonde highlights. My hair never looks brassy or fades out. the color seems to last. Love the atmosphere too — everyone is always friendly and accommodating not to mention the great music. I highly recommend Jerel at 119 for beautiful highlights, awesome cut, and overall GREATEXPEREINCE!

I originally found Jerel through a Groupon for cut and highlight and have had excellent experiences here ever since! Shaina does such a great job… and even when there was a time that I didn’t love it, she fixed it within a few days for me. I took a Jerel hiatus for a few months and was going elsewhere as it was less expensive. After not loving my hair for six or seven months, I came back and realized Shaina is totally worth the extra $$$. I won’t be going anywhere else anytime soon.

I tried this place out with a Groupon for Zina and got hooked. Zina matched my color so well and knew exactly what I wanted in a cut. Looking back at pictures when I went to Jerel 119, my hair color/cut never looked better. Zina recommended products only when I asked and never tried to sell me anything otherwise. And the ladies who wash hair are amazing. Unfortunately, I moved away, but I enjoyed my time at Jerel 119.

Went to Jerel for the first time today, came in with high expectations after having to wait over two months for an appointment after purchasing a groupon. I saw Shaina and absolutely live the color she chose for me! She took extra time on the cut and I’m very happy with the results! The salon was clean and the receptionist was also very friendly and professional. I will definitely be heading back for my next cut!

I went here with a groupon and was really disappointed with how the whole thing went down. First, I understand when I get a groupon that you will probably have a higher volume of people trying to get in. alas, I had to book an appointment TWO months in advance. Eventually I took a day off of work to get an earlier appointment a MONTH in advance. If you know you’re going to have a problem scheduling people, sell less groupons! This is just simple business etiquette. When I finally got in Shaina was really nice and listened to what I wanted, but when she was done I realized it was definitely not as short as I wanted it to be. I told her this and she told me to just«wait it out» and go home and see how I feel. If I wanted it shorter she said I could just call back and come in again. No, Shaina, I can’t do that. I have a job and I don’t have money to come in and see you again. Also, when were you going to be able to fit me in? It took me over a month to get in! Really disappointed, as I am looking for a salon that I can stick with and a stylist who really cares about making sure I get what I want. I didn’t feel this at Jerel @ 119. I am willing to spend money to take care of my hair if I feel my concerns and needs will be met.

This review is specifically for the company and not so much on the service. I bought a groupon for hair process and cut and when I try to schedule an appointment, I found out that only 1 person will be providing the service for the groupon deal. And the appointment I had to make would be 2 months away. That is just absolutely ridiculous and thank god I can call to get a refund from groupon on this. This is not a good way to choose to promote your company.

I’ve been seeing Amanda for about 8 years now(before Jerel owned a different salon where she worked) and I seriously love her. Not only is she funny, cool and a great listener(all girls know it’s very important to click with your hairstylist!), she is incredibly talented. I started seeing Amanda in college and even after moving to NY for a few years, continued to come back to her on my visits to Boston. Of course after the move, we were reunited for good :) She knows exactly what I like, so even when I say I want something different this time — she knows how far to «push it.» And she’s colored my hair from light to dark to light again and everything in between, playing with highlights and low-lights. I’ve never left the salon not feeling like a million bucks! I think it’s a great value for what you get and I also love how professional yet approachable(I hate stuck-up Newbury St stylists — yes, I’ve tried other salons too) everyone that works at Jerel 119 is. Highly recommended!

I’ve seeing Mascia for about ten years for cut and color. She’s amazing! She takes time to listen to your concerns and ideas(or lack thereof) and also provides some suggestions as well. She’s very sweet and never pressures you into anything you don’t want to do.

I went to Jerel a week ago for a simple cut and left as a new woman. Shaina gave me a shorter-than-chin-length asymmetric bob that I am in love with. She listened to what I wanted, made me feel comfortable, and most importantly, made me look amazing. I have never received so many compliments on my hair as I have in the past week. I am not used to people telling me my hair looks amazing and sophisticated(I am a 21 year old) yet fun and youthful. The atmosphere of the salon is upscale and fun. It is on the third floor of the building it is in and is near the top of Newbury St– a perfect location. I will definitely be back!

I’ve been to Jerel twice now — once for a routine trim, and once for a radical(for me) haircut, going from longish hair to chin-length. Amanda did a terrific job from the very vague description I gave of what I wanted, and I’ve been getting compliments on my do ever since. And the price is right as well.

I used a living social voucher as well for my haircut at this salon. Friendly staff, professional stylist. She did a good job and a few weeks later I am still liking the cut. A little pricey so not sure I would go back…

I too went here for the first time with a livingsocial coupon. I waited until last minute because I’m going to a wedding this upcoming weekend. It was easy to find, extremely clean, and everyone was very friendly. I was a little weirded out at first when they handed me a robe thing and told me that I could change, but it was rather convenient seeing as I was wearing a long sleeve shirt and was kind of warm. I was really nervous at first because I don’t like trying new places and I wanted to keep the length of my hair(everyone always chops it off). BUT Amanda listened to my concerns and left me with an AMAZING cut. It’s still long, but much much healthier. I left the salon feeling fancy. I don’t typically like to spend a lot of money on a hair cut, but with the coupon it wasn’t bad. I don’t get my hair cut very often, but I’m so impressed with Amanda that I think it might be worth the $ 30 more than I normally pay to go back. PS I have never Unilocaled before, but I was so impressed that I needed to share!

I also went here with a Living Social deal and was very impressed with my haircut. My hair was in rough shape after several bad haircuts, Amanda was able to fix my terribly uneven hair without taking much off the length. She is also really fun to talk to and doesn’t push services or products on you(which I HATE). It is a bit pricey, but average for Newbury st. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because it’s kind of a no frills salon. I was told there was coffee and tea but all I saw was extra bold coffee. I’m not saying I’m a snob or anything, but if you’re paying $ 65 plus tip for just a hair cut it would be nice to have some herbal tea and maybe some fresh fruit. I will go back though, Amanda is wonderful.

I went here for the first time with a Living Social coupon. I’m not one to spent a lot on a haircut, so I love getting coupons, but I think I’ll probably go back to Amanda here for another haircut, suck it up, and spend the big bucks.(Ok, it’s not that expensive without a coupon — in the $ 60 range — but for me that’s a LOT.) Easy to find location, nice building, clean salon and friendly people. I was helped right away and offered a beverage. Amanda(who is fabulous) was with me in about 5 minutes and she really seemed to listen to what I wanted — or lack thereof. I usually have an idea, but I didn’t this time and told her to just go for it. The result is a fantastic haircut that I really love. It’s exactly what I didn’t know I always wanted. Thumbs up for the shampoo too. Very relaxing — and I needed it after the last few days at work. Nice to have finally found a salon I like in Boston!
