This place is one of my favorites on beacon hill. HOWEVER the hours recently have been SUPER erratic. I can’t find reliable hours online and I routinely walk by at about 3PM and it’s closed. Anyone know what’s going on?

I live nearby and pop in when I get the chance. Food is always good and reasonably priced. You can also grab a slice of pizza to go. I love that they have a fun drink selection of less common, all natural pop and a few others. The Mediterranean wrap and pollo val dostano are a must.

Staff is really nice here, its a family owned business. They hands down have the best potato chips ever and there food is really good too! Everything is pretty much custom made, so you’re able to get whatever!

I deleted my previous negative review from a couple of years ago. I decided to give this place another chance today. They accomadated to my somewhat unusual request of a fried chicken cutlet sandwhich. They used tenders, but close enough. I can tell from the sandwich that it was made with care and consideration. It also tastes pretty good too. Not the best, but far from the worst I have ever had. I will definitely be going back here now that it has reinstated my confidence in them.

Worst egg sandwich I’ve ever eaten. One egg, on a shitty bagel with the smallest piece of bacon for $ 5. 2⁄10 absolutely do not recommend.

The DSD is downright amazing. Disregard what someone below me wrote about this place not being crowded at peak hours, this place is one of Beacon Hill’s best kept secrets. Everything that I have tried here has been solid, from the wraps to the subs to the regular entrees. The selection is incredible, the customization, endless. Not to mention it’s all at an unbeatable price. I can personally vouch for the pollo val dostano(get one of these), the chicken ceasar wrap, as well as the Mediterranean chicken wrap. I’ve never come here for breakfast, but they open at 7am, so if you’re in the neighborhood and need something quick to start off your day, you can do that too. My only qualm with this place is it closes a little early on Friday and Saturday nights, at 10pm and 5pm respectively. A slice of pizza from this place after a night out would be amazing, alas it is not so. The location is right behind the State House, an easy walk from the Common or Government Center. To top it all off, the owner who runs this place is a really nice dude.

I went to this place today on a recommendation from my co-worker. I have been here before, but only ordered fries to go between classes at Suffolk and didn’t think much about it. She specifically stated I needed to try the falafel wrap here. I am so excited I did. The wrap tasted so fresh. The falafels were perfectly crispy and warm. They add pickles to the sandwich which I initially thought was odd, but it ended up being a great combination of flavors. Now that I know this sandwich exists so close to my work I will be back. I think some of the other reviewer are being hard on the place. It is worth the $ 7.50 I paid for the wrap.

Had the chicken ceasar wrap. It was delicious. The chicken was cooked to order and the grilled pita bread it’s served on tastes freshly made. I’ll be back to try more and recommend this place to anyone.

Not bad. Run of the mill pizza place. Really enjoy the feta and spinach pizza. Sandwiches aren’t bad either. Really good to grab a bite between classes at Suffolk.

Ok overall — basic but tasty. Not a bad place to stop for lunch(but empty at 1pm on a Saturday in June — luckily Unilocal recommended it or I’d have walked straight out again). No washrooms.

It’s a little pricey for what you get in my opinion. I have gotten cheese pizza several times over the years, and while I like a good thin crust pizza, I have never loved the pizza here. It’s not bad, just not great. You will not regret trying it at the very least. I ordered a sub tonight for the first time… I usually hit the subway at the other end of the street for a $ 5 foot long, and when I looked at the menu here online I saw they had $ 6 foot longs. I would pay a buck for a sub of equal or better quality from a local establishment, so I gave it a shot. First issue is that the price was actually 6.95 plus tax… so now that’s two bucks(40% more) than a subway foot long. The second issue was the meat… I feel like I get more meat out of a subway foot long. The final issue, which may be my fault — I asked for a turkey sub with lettuce and mayo, and it came back toasted. I didnt ask for it to be toasted, and did not expect it… but maybe that’s how they do it here. Overall it is OK.

Just moved to the neighborhood and trying out the local spots. 5 stars for the service and the gyro! Can’t wait to go back and try the other menu items. Bonus: free chocolate chip cookie for«a new neighbor!»

The fries are really good but they put onions on everything. So if you despise them as much I do be sure to mention you don’t want them more than once.

Derne was one of my favorite places while a grad student at Suffolk University. They had anything and everything I craved before a night class! Maybe we can start with the pitfalls: * $ 5.00 credit card minimum. Yuck Now that we’re done with that, let me explain why I love Derne Street Deli: * They don’t take forever to make food! I had class from 4:30 — 7:10; 7:30 — 9:50 p.m. I only had 20 minutes to run from Donahue to Sawyer. Time was of the essence, friends. I would go in, bark out my order, pay, and receive the deliciousness shortly after * I did some catering from these guys and they are so easy and great to work with. * Their pizza and subs are delicious. They are. Bottom line: Although I am no longer affiliated with Suffolk, I would go back if in the area. I would also recommend anyone who is a little hungry before class or during work to head over there. You won’t be disappointed.

Love the vegetarian falafel. Perfectly cooked falafel balls in a nicely warm, slightly charred pita with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I will definitely be back. Delicious! Service was fast and friendly. They accept all major credit cards.

Yum Yum Yum! I love this place for breakfast! I always get the hash browns because they some of the better hash browns in Boston i’ve had(forewarming they are not the cut up potatoe ones, they are the flat circular ones). And who can make a Gyro better then a family of greek people. When i’m in the mood for lunch about once a month i’ll swing by and grab a Gyro, and they are always great.

There is something to be said for a well-made wrap. It is, essentially, an entire meal in hand-held form, a veritable cornucopia of ingredients surrounded by a tightly wrapped tortilla or flatbread. I expect every bite to enthrall me with a new combination of flavors and textures. Imagining what the wraps at Derne St. Deli could be, though, just makes the reality all the more painful. What you will actually get, when purchasing one of the deli’s many wrap varieties, is closer in appearance and structure to a soft-shell taco. You begin with a grilled flatbread of less than ideal size, add an overly generous helping of meat, and then layer on the vegetables. Finish with a small ocean of sauce, fold in half, and slide into a piece of sealed wax-paper to contain the juices until you attempt to eat it. While every ingredient that goes into this hot, sticky mess is downright tasty, the combination almost requires a fork and knife to consume. Upon first removing the wrap from its confines, a flood of near biblical proportions occurred on my table from the torrential downpour of honey dijon mustard. More determined to eat than to clean, I took my first bite regardless, and calmly watched the chicken and lettuce start tumbling down the exposed upper side. Discouraged but not defeated, I forged onward, ignoring the sauce dripping down my fingers and the continual loss of contents until I had at last slain the beast. Finally satisfied, I mopped up the remains, chugged the rest of my VitaminWater, and decided that normal sandwiches aren’t really so bad after all.

This place is very convenient. I have had slices from here, which are on the large size, tasty and inexpensive. I had most recently, a tuna sub, which was good. It was a good size for the price, and it was made exactly to my specifications — something that though you are always asked«how do you like that?» they sometimes don’t listen… They listened. Pissah. I dig it.

When you work/go to school at a place that is in the middle of Beacon Hill that has mediocre cafeterias and not much campus space it’s awesome to have a quick little place to duck in and get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Derne Street Deli is exactly this for Suffolk. Their food is great — from muffins to salads to sandiwches to wraps to pizza. Everything is relatively cheap. My go to items are the falafel(perfectly cooked every time), the tuna melt(served on huge, pillowy foccacia bread), or the mediterranean chicken wrap(comes with feta and a delicious creamy dressing). The staff that works here is friendly, pleasant, and efficient. Derne takes credit cards for purchases over $ 4 and now also takes the Suffolk Ram account(meal plan) card. Pretty awesome. They are open at really convenient hours too. I have been able to rely on this place for early morning breakfasts all the way through the day to late night post-class dinner. I can’t say enough about how awesome the Derne Street Deli is.
