Super cute store, totally my style, but certainly not my wallet’s. The associates are very nice and helpful, easy to talk to and give good advice about their Calypso pairings. My best friend goes to town here, it’s hard to peel her away.

I am an unabashed and shameless fashionista and at the moment I am a recessionista!!! I discovered this shop over 10 years ago, originally in NYC. I was so happy when I found a location on Newbury Street. The minute I walk in the door I immediately feel all girly and want to get dolled up in heels and a sexy dress. The place smells so good, they carry a line of perfume by Christiane Celle and I wear Marine all the time, it’s a really clean and fresh scent and great for Spring and Summer. Their signature look is sexy/sophisticated and a lot of the dresses are made of raw silk, which I love, really cool on the skin with natural texture. Their color selection is always so different and for the girl who wants something original and feminine, this is the place! The jewelry is very pretty and always a little edgy. I always come for the sales, they have great sales! Last year I got a cashmere cardigan that I drooled over for months, it was 280.00 and I got it for for 50.00!!! The staff are super friendly and not pushy at all. They also sell the same dresses for little girls, so adorable!

Calypso made living in Boston during the winter a little bit easier. Take a walk up the steps into a gorgeous cavern full of bright silks and cashmeres and cotton jerseys. I could live in here and pretend that I was living in St. Tropez. Although fairly pricey on my students budg, the sales are OOC(out of control.) They often do buy two sale items and get 50% of your entire purchase which is pretty killer. Their silk sheaths are TDF(to die for) and I wear mine all the time during the summer. xo

Another store with beautiful, expensive clothing on Newbury St. I like how everything is organized by color. I’m a big fan of bold, bright colors, which this store had plenty of. Quality seems very good as well.

I too am happy that there is a Calypso in Boston. I went in during a recent sale and found many enchanting items. All cashmere, in gorgeous colors, 50% off! I also found a Julia dress, which I love for its dual identity depending on how I fold it(prim or saucy), the fact that it is meant to be rolled into a ball for storage, and the fact, which I discovered only once I got it home, that it bears my own non-yelp name. The only drawback to this dress is that it is perilous on a windy day or descending/ascending into/from a T station. The saleswomen are genuinely nice and very helpful.

With a fresh break up wound still festering on my heart, I was in the market for some dresses to lift my spirits. I live on ze Newbs and I kept walking by and admiring the crinkly bright dresses on display in the window. Afraid to go in, I first checked out the website and holy moly expensivo! But… the sale items intrigued me. So I got the courage and ventured inside on a fine saturday afternoon. All the clothes are so bright and luscious. The employees were super friendly as soon as I walked in. I received many a «hi, how are you?» Sweet. I meandered around inspecting the items at the front but my eyes were set towards the back of the store on the sale goods. I love the material, silk dupioni, because it is crinkly and wrinkly and still looks cool. I caressed a few items and a saleswoman suggested I try some things on. I went for the Julia dress(as seen in the Oprah magazine) in a very bright royal blue and the pazzi dress in lavender. I spied one of the saleswomen wearing the Pazzi style dress along with some jeans. I love the dress/jeans combo for it brings me back to my high school days. The Julia dress is a wrap dress and they have a cool Calypso style of tying it up. One of the women showed me the way and was very professional even though my turquoise bra was exposed in her face. She worked quickly and the style was very lovely. I decided to get both dresses because they were on sale, they made me feel happy, and I deserved a special treat. I spent over two hundred bucks, but I am pleased with my purchases. I had a nice chat about the assorted perfume scents that they sell with the saleswoman who rang me up. I also got a free neon orange Calypso tote for being a big spender. I wore the Julia dress yesterday and I couldn’t quite master the special Calypso tie up without having my bra completely exposed(not quite work appropriate). I wore it normal wrap style and I sort of felt like I was wearing a big blue tarp, but I got over it. I think I will go back into the store and ask for another lesson. I am sure they will not mind.

I loooove the fact that there is a Calypso in Boston. For a Calypso-deprived San Francisco person like me, it is always good to have a Calypso in a town you go… even when it is for business, I manage to drop by and pick up some clothing here. Having said that, this place is more like a «Calypso warehouse» than an actual store. Sure, the Newbury st. location is fabulous, but the selection compared to the NY stores is just not there. It is a great place to find sale items though… if you are lucky! This time I snatched up two Pazzi dresses for the price of one… a steal…

I love Calypso, but hate it for the fact that I usually can’t get out of here without dropping like 200 bucks. The staff is amazing. All the girls are so sweet. The clothing is about 50⁄50. Half of it I wouldn’t be caught dead in, but the other half, miraculously, is all I wear. Their silk duponti or whatever the hell fabric that they use is so easy to wear. I can leave any number of my dresses crinkled in a heap on the floor, my cat using it as a nest, and pick it up and it looks just as good as off the hanger. Did I mention the candy colors? Go there.

This store window always makes me stop and stare and get all dreamy eyed over the range of style within their monochromatic displays. I always continue walking because if I haven’t even heard of this brand on Newbury Street, they must be SO out of my price range. When I walked in, I noticed that the prices are totally normal. The sale items are unbelievably priced. I don’t want to spend time working out the figures, but $ 195 items were marked down to $ 75 and some things were even $ 50. It wasn’t one of those places where all the sale items are ugly, busted, or huge either. They were just normal items in a limited range of colors and sizes. About the colors and sizes, there is a great range of color and they keep extra sizes in the back. They had my size in everything I wanted to try. The clothes were also unique and versatile. Plenty of times I would pick something up and hear«when you try that on, let me show you the 2, 3, 100 other ways you can wear it.» I love it when my clothes can multi-task because I have only 2VERY tiny closets that only fit all my clothes if I leave some of them at the dry cleaner. About the service, it was perfect! Anyone who had bad service didn’t have Sara. We exchanged names and she kept up with my demanding self the whole time. When other customers came in, she got to know them and kept up with them, too. Even while she was helping other people, I never felt neglected as I kept asking for more colors and sizes. She also guessed my size exactly and everything in that size was a perfect fit. I left this store SO happy with all of my purchases and I want to wear it all right now!

This is a great little boutique that I wish would come to Chicago. Lots of flowy skirts and dresses, loose fitting tops… very much a bohemian look. There are some great dresses for the summer that are cool and sexy. Most of their stuff is private label Calypso. I love their sweaters in the winter… they use a lot of patterned pieces in pastels and bold colors. You’ll never find anything bland here.
