You won’t be able to find anywhere cheaper, but trust me: you get what you pay for.
Yellow tinted water from rusty pipes. Disgusting water coming up out of your sink drains. Horrible landlord Melanie who is never around. Maintenance requests don’t get taken care of even if the issue is pointed out in a walkthrough.
Walls are horribly insulated. Windows are so old they hardly do anything except rattle like they’re going to shatter when the train passes.
You WILL get mold because the poor insulation and horrible windows unless you run a dehumidifier ²⁴⁄₇. The windows collect condensation like none I’ve ever witnessed in winter. So much so, that there were many times I’d wake up to the sound of water dripping from the top of my window casing, to the bottom in a massive puddle that formed during the night.
Walking from my living area into my kitchen/​dining area, there is a noticeable slant in the floor. They use very low quality flooring (It’s cement under the fake wooden flooring, and I’m on the 2^nd floor) in the kitchen.
The «onsite laundry» facilities include 2 rooms, each with 1 washer and dryer. You’re going to be fighting constantly with other tenants for access to these, and they lack the courtesy of any decent human being. I’ve lived here for 2 years, and the washer/​dryer in the area closest to the office has broken 6 times, for a week at a time. Currently, the washer’s spin cycle is broken, resulting in your clothes coming out sopping wet.
In short…
1. Don’t expect any professional maintenance to be done. Apparently it’s all handled by Melanie, a novice apartment manager that hasn’t got a clue.
2. Your fellow tenants will be loud, obnoxious, smelly, and dirty.
3. You’ll need to do laundry very early, or else you’ll be waiting for hours.
4. Clean. A lot. Or else mold will creep everywhere.
5. Get used to disgusting water.
6. Get used to dropping your rent through a mail slot and not receiving a receipt.
