The food was pretty good. We tried the nabeyaki udon, tempura zarusoba, and one of the bentos. My favorite was probably the tenzaru. Service was fantastic. The teacups. SO cute. And the tea was good too of course.

Wow I just found my new favorite teriyaki restaurant! Is that peanut oil I detect? My wife and I shared a bento box which was more than enough for the two of us. The miso was tasty and not too salty. The fish was bright and fresh. And the tempura was light and not greasy. We came in on a Sunday night to a quiet, nicely decorated Japanese restaurant, but the quiet didn’t last for long as group after group came in. And I don’t blame them, this food is great. The staff is friendly and bring drink and food to the table in a timely manner. I’m excited to go back and try new things.

Terrible! I saw the great reviews and ordered a bunch of rolls to share with my family for New Years Eve 2015. Despite the place being packed with locals and Japanese locals, the quality of my sushi was very poor. The fish was not fresh! When I opened the boxes and saw our maki rolls I knew they would be bad. Some family members tried the sushi but they didn’t eat much. Very disappointing! $ 80 down the drain. Should have just made our own, I guess!

Oishii desu née! The waitresses were super nice and courteous, especially for being very welcoming when I try to practice my terrible Japanese with them. Like other reviews mention their Bento gets spotlight for being both authentic and filling with a nice variety. If there is a criticism it’s that it makes it very tempting to always get the bento and never try any of the other great dishes on the menu like Chirashi, soba and other izakaya like foods. The atmosphere matches the food great and very clean. They also put together tables for bigger groups. The sushi is also good, but you’ll mostly just remember Ikenohana as the best bento in Portland.

My new favorite spot. Cute traditional japanese restuarant. Best udon i have ever eaten in Beaverton, and I was on the hunt for a while. Can’t wait to go back to try their other dishes!

Our neighborhood resturant. Décor is dated. Served by old asian folks. First time here, ordered their chicken katsu curry, and this thing was amazing. Have only gotten the same dish everytime. That being said, service is super slow here. They dont really greet you until its time to be seated. Last time we waited 45 mins to only have them grab someone who came after us. No wait list here. Wife was hangry and now refuses to come back. First timers, set plenty of time. Good luck

I live close by and go here quite often I can definitely say this is my favorite sushi place I’ve found thus far in Portland. That being said I find Portland sushi to be far inferior to my home town of Seattle’s sushi and my time spent in Vancouver BC. Still it isn’t bad by any means.

Wahh. Usually this place is pretty good for your Japanese food fix if you live just around the corner but what the heck. I arrived with my boyfriend around 5 on a Saturday, which I think is pretty early for«dinner» hour. We walked and she frowned as she saw us and tried to talk down that booth seat. We said that was fine and walked over. After that is was all down hill. She hounded and hounded us to order right away. I knew she could tell I was annoyed because she acted the same right back. She acted as if it was super super slammed. There were empty tables in the back so I know it couldn’t be true. My food took the normal amount of time so I really saw no need to rush us. My food was good. The salmon teriyaki could of used a little more sauce other than that great!

My Japanese wife and I have enjoyed eating here for over 20 years. I always admire the real variety of Japanese favourite dishes. We are always greeted happily and seated. My favourite is their bento box of sushi, tempura, sashimi, rice, miso soup and green tea. It’s a true bargain at only $ 10.95. Another treat are the 8 gyoza for only $ 6.75. My wife enjoys their saba fish bento box with tempura and all the fixings. Their prices are very reasonable and the quality of the preparations is always remarkable. I cooked for over 30 years in hotels and restaurants and was the chef/owner of my own restaurant for over 17 years. I always admire the fine job that they do with their hospitality and dishes. It’s a small casual restaurant that is usually filled with smiling customers. It’s our«go-to» restaurant to share with friends that drop by our home. I always look forward to dining here. It’s a nice treat. Semper Fi.

Near the top of my list for best tasting japanese food in Portland. But when it comes to value, this place is definitely #1!

We were desperate for a sushi place after a movie and this was on the way home and had decent reviews. Honestly, it’s not terrible. But it’s not good either. It’s about on par with sushi from a grocery store. Which, maybe you like. If that’s the case, then by all means, enjoy. My tuna was almost inedible and the salmon was at least a little fresher. The rolls were fine, but again, grocery store quality. They also charge for miso soup. I mean really, who does that? Especially on a $ 100 bill? The way she asked us if we wanted any, I thought it was complimentary. I will say I didn’t try any of the bento or rice or noodle dishes, and that’s what most of the people in the place seemed to be eating. Maybe that’s fine. But for my money and taste buds, I’m going to Hakatamon(if I’m staying in the burbs).

What a nice surprise. Ikenohana is a humble small strip mall Japanese restaurant with good food and affordable sushi prices. The udon broth had nice depth. It was our favorite in recent memory. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was lovely with a slice of what tasted like was Kabota pumpkin. Our gyoza was perfection as well. Can’t wait to go back to try other menu items.

Nothing special. and DEFINITELY not the best place around for sushi.(see Syun in Hillsboro!) There was nary a real crab flake to be seen… only imitation, and the ginger was bright pink. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy at all. Once we got seated, the service was acceptable, if not attentive. However, we stood in the entryway for at least 10 or 15 minutes before someone acknowledged us(the restaurant was full, so we stood there waiting for a free table), usually people acknowledge your presence, but not here.

Tucked away in a tiny strip mall is this lovely place. The people are really nice here. I love their bentos because they give a lot and the price is reasonable. The tonkatsu was soooo tender and soft but nicely battered on the outside. Teriyaki chicken is yummy. Tempura isn’t oily. They give a good variety of vegetables too. Fish was fresh and we loved the tiger roll. It also comes with miso soup, not too gingery salad, and a good sunomono with noodles. A must try.

Eh, worth money but don’t look for quality. Their noodle is just about okay and actually their donburi is pretty good(Get the kasu donburi!)

I’ve dined at Ikenohana twice for dinner and each time, my experience has been underwelming. The sushi, beef teriyaki, udon, tempura, japanese fried chicken, fried tofu… everything was below average. The waitresses were quick to take down our order, but the food took a long time to come out, even the miso soup. The only saving grace is the the portions are pretty big.

I have ordered a combination meal and the ebisu which was alright. The meal I got was the tonkatsu and the tempura which was a delight . The meat was actually there not like this restaurants that flatten the meat then bread it to make it look bigger, the meat was tender and was excellently cooked the tempura was delicious and the flavor of each one was there. Overall the wait was longer than expected but I understand cause it was busy and it was worth the wait

Gotta love the new feature that you can post Unilocal review while you wait! Yay Unilocal. Boo ikenohana! It’s been 1 hour and I still haven’t gotten my dinner. They served appetizer(sushi), soup and salad about 30 mins ago. Lame. I’m starved :(
