If you like In n Out Burger you’ll love P. Terry’s. It’s pretty much the same as In n Out except it’s a local institution, supports local vendors, and has a track record of treating its employees very well. Having said that, this review isn’t so much for the food as it is for the customer service at the South Lamar location– and in particular the service of who I believed to be the night manager. Last night after a long day I pulled into P. Terry’s and gave them a somewhat unusual order and pulled ahead. The young man to whom I’m referring took my order through the drive through and unbeknownst to me felt somewhat unsure of what I actually wanted. Instead of simply sending in the order with partial certainty, he came out of the building to my car and double checked that he got my order right and then triple checked at the check out window to make sure I received exactly what I ordered. It was a small thing but at 1130pm the last thing you want is to get home to find out you have the wrong order. I appreciated the young man’s integrity and think it says something not just about him but also P. Terry’s. I never leave reviews on here but I felt that the work of this guy shouldn’t go unnoticed. Well done. I really appreciated the attention to detail.

If I had to compare this place to another popular fast food stand, I’d say P. Terry’s is very similar to In n Out in terms of price and style. A cheeseburger costs a little over $ 2, the combo hovers at about $ 6. They have a special sauce that they add to the burgers, but I didn’t really notice it. If it was there, it definitely wasn’t a thousand island kind that In n Out comes with. This place easily outcompetes its competitors. I think the cheese and I think the fries taste way better than In n Out. This location gets really busy in the evenings when everyone is getting out of the bars/clubs but service is incredibly quick. I’ll definitely be coming here more often.

P. Terry’s may have saved my life ;) But no really — a friend wanted to do a late night stop after an amazing wedding and night out — and I’m so glad our Über driver was up for the stop(He even joined in for a late night meal)! The only thing I would later regret was not ordering 2 — the burger was FANTASTIC! I added bacon(of course) and jalapeños. P. Terry’s — please make your way to SF!

Maybe I’m just spoiled by In N Out, but left underwhelmed. The cheeseburger is a step up from jack in the box. It would be much better if the patties were cooked to order so they were nice and hot and the buns were toasted so it gave it some texture in every bite

What’s all the hype? Small burger, no onions or pickles. Tasted ok! Their fries were the worst I’ve had, soggy and limp. If I want a great burger I can always depend on Whataburger, Dan’s or Moonies.

I have been to a few pterrys around Austin, and have always had good service. Visited this Pterrys after a long hot day at Zilker Park, I have never experienced such poor customer service. When trying to order our food we were interrupted. One of our burgers was made incorrect, we ordered the combo which comes with a drink, we wanted water to rehydrate, they tried to give us water cups, we explained since we are paying for a larger drink we want the water in the large cups, they corrected both mistakes, all without an apology. The only reason I’m leaving 3 stars and not 2 was because they did give us a small ice cream for our dog which we asked for and offered to pay for but nonetheless were told they weren’t allowed to do so. I will forever avoid this particular location, still love Pterrys, just not this particular location.

Clearly, we ordered the wrong thing. It was early in the morning & we figured a breakfast egg burger would be appropriate. Plus, P. Terry’s was a walking distance from where we stayed so why not? The wait to receive our order was long. about 15 – 20 minutes. We got 2 egg burgers with sausage & jalapeños and breakfast potatoes. An upside to this dainty shack is how CHEAP everything is. — Egg Burger(3⁄5): Simply all it is. Except, we added a sausage patty & the chopped jalapeños were spread at the bottom. Not a fan, tbh. The burger was a little bland & boring. — Breakfast Potatoes(3⁄5): Tell me why we thought these were actual baked potatoes. Silly us. I think the word Idaho really threw us off. LOL we were expecting loaded up spuds! But these diced potatoes were good too. If there is ever a next time, I’ll be sure to get their classic meat burgers & a milkshake!

As far as I know, p Terry’s has the best veggie burger for the best price in Austin. This is the only thing I’ve tried but whether or not you are a vegetarian, their veggie burgers are good.

I don’t really understand the hype with this place. The burgers are subpar — it tastes just like any other burger joint. The fries taste like In-N-Out’s, they aren’t soggy or anything, they taste like you’re eating salted cardboards. The food was okay but the service was great! Overall, this place was so-so and I would only go if I was dying of hunger(I live near P. Terry’s).

These are my favorite burgers hands down. I’ve loved this place since I had my first burger in 2006. I recommend everybody to come down here if you’re new to Austin!

P. Terry’s RULES. I am convinced they can do no wrong. Having tried pretty much their entire menu, I can vouch for their normal burger, their veggie burger, and the chicken burger. If you ever want to add bacon, go for it! It’s crispy and great! The special sauce is awesome, don’t ask for your burger without it, even if you THINK you hate condiments. The fries are plentiful, hot, and thin. I recommend eating them quickly though because they can get a little soggy if they spend too long in the bag. The shakes are awesome, but I love their lemonade. I usually get an Arnold Palmer. This is what the creators of fast food dreamed they could achieve. It’s somehow cheap in spite of amazing quality? And you can leave totally loving life and having spent like $ 5 if you should choose. This is my personal favorite location, because I like the bright outside tables, the crappy bathroom, and I mean honestly, even driving through and eating it in the car has a sense of home to it. There’s a sandbox for kids, which is kind of cute. P. Terry’s is ALWAYS my go to choice for when my friends and I can’t decide on food, because they seriously have something for everyone, and everyone frickin loves P. Terry’s.

My original review was dumb — I must have been having a bad day. P.Terrys chicken burger and fries is divine. Their milkshakes heavenly.

Have been there a few times, every time it’s fresh and delicious. It’s still fast food, but I think it’s a better fast food option. Veggie burger is very good and the fries are homemade and very tasty!

The food tasted great. I had a question about hygiene for the restaurant in my previous review, but this issue has been addressed. UPDATE: I really appreciate the response from P. Terry’s. I can’t assume the employee did not follow procedure. The food is excellent so I will be back again soon.

I seriously do not understand what all the hype is about with this place. When I went, the burger was very small. There are also very limited options to choose from. If you are looking for a simple burger and fries, this is the place to go. Although it’s not my first choice, I do fully respect this company for their treatment of their employees. That is what made me give them 3 stars. Even if I’m not a fan of their food, I can support their model.

Best cheap burger in town. Yes, better than In-N-Out. Recommend adding jalapenos and grilled onions to any burger. And the chicken burger is pretty good too. Don’t forget to get a milkshake(caramel + chocolate is my favorite) and finish off your meal with a $ 1 oatmeal /choc chip cookie.

Satisfy your chocolate cravings with a chocolate shake they said… it will be taken care of swiftly with P Terry’s they said. What they didn’t say is you’ll be in the drive-through for more than 20-minutes with only a few cars in line. I considered that the folks in front of me were maybe putting in large orders. However, with only two people per car, I can’t imagine the requests were enormous. I want to give back to local businesses but when I select one that’s similar to that of fast food, I’m not interested in the wait of a restaurant. Props for the Double Chocolate Caramel Shake, as usual, it was on point.

Please note this is fast food… but I’m giving it 5 stars because it’s everything fast food should be! As a vegetarian, I’m used to feeling like my only fast food option is subway or an iceberg side salad with fries. I love how P Terry’s has a homemade veggie burger!!! Also their caramel milkshake is absolutely amazing and I crave it! My boyfriend used to swear by In N Out… and he actually admitted he likes P Terry’s more! Definitely greasy/fast food but it hits the spot when you’re craving it!

Order taker was terrible and could not seem to get my order right. I ordered 5 cheeseburgers, two with everything, one with no tomatoes and two with no special sauce. How hard is that??? I also ordered two fries. Fries were soggy and soaked in oil. Absolutely the worst fries I’ve ever had. The burgers that were made right were fairly good. Nothing to write home about. I have a hard time considering ever trying this again. P TERRYSISOVERRATED! …so I gave em a second try today. Much better. Burger was good and fries more fresh than before. Good job when it’s slow. Busy times may be the problem for this company. Overall. I would eat there again

Best fast food, period. They have house made veggie burgers, real fries, amazing lemonade and yummy milkshakes, for CHEAP! For the price and convenience, P Terry’s cannot be beat. If you have a big appetite I recommend a double cheeseburger combo, add bacon onions and pickles, fries, with a lemonade. Be prepared for a really satisfying food coma.

The fries… the fries. The CHICKENBURGER w/the asked for onions & pickles on request I switched out the swiss cheese for the good ol’ US cheeese thank ya. Man, this place is my newest addiction… not too sure thats a good thing, because the combos run about 7 bucks… but boy oh boy are they worth it. The fries… Sometimes you go to a different location for the same franchise… but this one is good too! Hmm…maybe I should taste more. heh he

Tried P. Terry’s based in the reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The food was straight burgers, fries and shakes, served through a small drive through window; with a nice, well shaded patio adjoining the drive through lanes. Staff was friendly, the food was good(I had the veggie burger) and relatively inexpensive. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

The more I eat around, the more I realize how absurdly amazing P. Terry’s fries are. Crispy, fresh and strangely addicting, they’re everything you could want from a potato and more. And they’re cheaper than the fries you get at Mickey D’s and get a lot more too. Woohoo. My go to is still the regular cheeseburger: great meat, sauce and fresh produce. If you’re hungry, go for the double, but I find myself quite happy with just the single.

Living in Westlake means that when you or your bf’s got the drunk munchies, there ain’t much around that’s open(if it’s late). For once I finally remembered to stop by here on my way home from a late night downtown. It’s great that it’s open late! But that’s just about the only good thing. He wanted to try a regular hamburger and a double cheeseburger. I figured I’d take a bite of both. When we got home I was expecting something pretty amazing, to be honest. Come on, it’s P Terry’s, right? But it really wan’t so good. It was mushy. Mushy mushy and more mushy. It didn’t really taste like much of anything. I took a bite of each and concluded that I actually prefer McDonalds. My boyfriend ended up throwing the rest away. He was drunk, I was not. We both thought it was all bad. Bummer. I will say though, that the people and management working for P Terry’s are always friendly, which is nice.
