Worst food experience in Austin accompanied by subpar service. My food was ordered at the window so I imagined the margins for error would be small. Boy, was I wrong. I ordered a chilli dog and was asked several times if I wanted mustard to which I replied very clearly, NO. I then ordered a corn dog and was again I was asked if I wanted mustard which I replied yes to. When I received my order I had no corn dog and a chilli dog with mustard. Seriously?! The fries were disgusting and had clearly been refried due to the anount of oil that was in them. I believe in second chances but the cashiers attitude was unbelievable. I hope the owner or manager re evaluates the staff. Whataburger is right next door anyway.

This review is based only on the fact that they do not serve custard anymore –instead its softserve. NOTTHESAMEATALL. Many memories of my young adult life around this area of town and getting custard here. Boo.

Employees were friendly. They got the orders out pretty quick. Delicious GIGANTIC burgers. couldn’t even finish it. Downside. got harassed by bees! It was only 2, and they flew away when they realized I had no sweets… But that was a pretty terrifying 10 seconds. Also pigions and other small birds will beg for your table scraps. DONOTFEEDTHEM! they will swarm.

This place is by far the best hamburger in the USA!!! I’ve been coming here ever since I was a kid and the ice creams are awesome! These burgers are the kind that moms used to make! It will leave you stuffed and happy and ready for a nap

I regret doing this if it will drive more traffic, there but seriously the best burger I’ve ever had. Forget all the wasteful«artisan burgers» who can’t do anything well. The best classic cheeseburger made on a grill that hasn’t been changed in 40 years. Seriously amazing

This place is amazing. I have been coming here for years. I got the double bacon cheeseburger combo and it was great. It tastes fresh and the bread they use is amazing. The fries were very hot and it all came out in less than five minutes. I would highly recommend.

The bacon cheeseburger I got here the other day was everything I would expect from a little shack like this place — juicy, a little charred, just a classic burger. I’d come back for that. The fries, however, were lacking. They had a weird flavor that I didn’t care for. Maybe next time I’ll try a different side. The line was decent-sized on a Tuesday afternoon at this fun little burger shack.

We waited in the drive through for about 15 minutes to get 2 cone and 2 sodas. We opted for the chocolate dipped cones and when they handed them to us they were already dripping all over. They were delicious as usual don’t get me wrong but, I don’t like ice cream dripping all over my new car. I think they need to turn down the temperature on the chocolate dip so, it doesn’t melt the ice cream so bad.

«Sandy’s frozen custard» doesn’t have anything similar to frozen custard. They have vanilla or chocolate soft serve. Coming from a city with great frozen custard I’m sad to see so many people led astray. Go to Culver’s on the south side instead.

Very basic food stop. Hamburgers, fries, shakes(that you can actually drink through a normal straw)-that’s about it. Walk up order stand and a drive thru, if you wanna sit and eat there are plenty of picnic tables to enjoy outside. Just be weary of the pigeons running around(though feel free to through them a few fries that fell out in he bag) Prices are cheap, food is delicious, service is quick and friendly. The only concern are the bathrooms, wouldn’t suggest them as your pit stop. Just need a little cleaning and love, but they do have them. It’s only 7 minutes off of 35 in case you wanna stop in as you pass through Austin. Great little place!

A heavy night on Rainey Street usually does the trick. Raising my fists at you craft beers and whiskey! Woke up this morning filled with regrets but I’m sure I’m not singing this tune for long. No shame in my game! Then, my SO suggested«The Cure». Sandy, Oh Sandy! You are the reason why I am a fully functioning individual today. The double meat with cheese, fries and a nice sweet tea hit the spot. Never disappoints. Oh don’t let me forget, that sweet sweet treat from the gods– best custard hands down. Do yourself a favor and have one. Come on! You know you want to. …till my next hangover.

It was too dang hot this day for pix, lol, but I did have one of their delicious root beer floats. I’ve been in Austin for 29 years, passed Sandy’s a million times, and just hadn’t stopped. Beings that we were starving after a gaming convention across the street, I finally made the stroll over! The cheeseburger was huge, hot and tasty! Menu is simple. Food is classic burger stand grilled, and def worth a stop when in the area. Think old school Short Stop meets Dans.

Wham, bam, thank you, ma’am. There’s no nonsense here, Sandy’s is American perfection and there’s no other way going about it. The simplistic menu affirms this truth and keeps things to the fundamentals. Go all out, double up on fries, get the big burger with the extra toppings you love and reach nirvana from a classic joint that doesn’t let up. There’s a Whataburger next to Sandy’s and I root for it to get shut down so that Sandy’s can maintain its reign on Austin. God bless this place.

yeah. An Austin staple, everyone must go here at least once in there life. Even after all these years, it’s still exactly the same — which isn’t a bad thing at all. Good burgers, better custard. It can be hard to get in and out of due to the location but if you’re at the park or Long Center anyways it’s an easy walk over.

Yikes, getting to this place is hard! We could barely get into the parking lot because there was no more parking(even though there weren’t many people eating at the tables) and everyone had to get into the drive-thru line. Despite that, it didn’t actually taken that long to get through the line and get our frozen custard. The frozen custard itself was very underwhelming. I got a strawberry shake. The cup had strawberry syrup on it, so I suspect that they just add strawberry syrup to vanilla frozen custard. I love supporting old Austin establishments, but I doubt I’ll return to Sandy’s.

This place is the south’s version of In-n-Out or Shake Shack! When people come by the van load, specifically 3 vans full, then you know this place is doing something right! I came, and this place had a line wrapped around the building! There’s also a drive thru line if you want to skip the line in the front. This place is a small building where you order at the window and go around the back where their are tables outdoors. There’s no AC if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s a rustic joint. The menu is very straight to the point, and the prices are so cheap! I saw this place was known for their custard, so that’s all I tried here, but I would definitely come back to try their burgers. I got a chocolate dipped cone with their chocolate custard. The chocolate custard was light, smooth, and not too sweet! It was heavenly. The chocolate shell on top was just an extra indulgence. I could eat a gallon of that custard by itself! I also had the root beer float, and it was just as heavenly! Their vanilla custard paired perfectly with the root beer. Also, how can you complain when a 20oz float is only $ 2?! Places elsewhere charge $ 5 – 6 for a smaller size around Austin. I saw a sign for a special they had. On Thursdays and Saturdays, a burger, fries, and drink is only $ 5! The prices and the product cannot be beat!

Pros: –corndogs with mustard for under two bucks… I’ll have two please. –custard; regular or swirled, yum –atmosphere; like the austin of yesteryear, feels homey and nice –price; you can get out of here with a full meal for under $ 5 on thursdays and saturdays Cons: –really not a fan of the burgers, flat and flavorless –cute setup, but it takes quite a bit longer to get your order –workers there have to battle with an OLD speaker system so a lot goes unheard/forgotten This place is alright. I will never crave their burgers but will not object to a corndog and some frozen custard(which is just more like regular frozen yogurt).

Such a cute and homey spot! I felt like I was in the movie Grease. Order at a window, tables out back to enjoy your food with some company, and old timey music to go along with it all. I only got the soft serve ice cream, which was cheap and delicious, but would love to go back and try more items on the menu just for the vibes.

I eat here exactly on day a year, during the Settlement Home Sale, in November. It is conveniently located across from the Palmer Events Center. They have an outdoor walk up window and a drive through. They only have covered outdoor seating behind the restaurant. There are a lot of flies and brazen birds vying for your food, so keep that in mind and take it to go if that bothers you. Sandy’s is a no muss, no frills, Styrofoam cup, kind of place with decent burgers, hot dogs and corn dogs. They also offer a BLT and a grilled chicken sandwich options and are known for their custard, shakes, malts and root beer floats. The burgers are ginormous — enough to split as a meal. The burgers come on a white bun with all the trimmings standard — lettuce, tomato, mustard, onions and pickles. You can ask for mayo, and grilled onions. They have bacon, cheese, jalapenos and chili add-ons for an extra cost. If you are looking for gluten free or healthy, this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for tasty burgers or dogs and fries with a little grease at a cheap price, you have found it.
