Redfish Bistro

Oh, I love you, Redfish. I haven’t had anything there I don’t like. My favorite is the redfish with horseradish mashed potatoes, which wasn’t available the last time I was there. I also really enjoy the fried oysters. More recent reviews indicate the restaurant’s losing momentum, but I sincerely hope not. I love this place!

Redfish is on the frontier of the GP… on the recently «revitalized» stretch of Memorial Dr. E of Blvd. I think it’s a very underutilized restaurant, but somehow they’ve been around for the last 5 years at least. The cuisine is Cajun/​Creole, and the décor is pretty enough — large stone wall with candles backing the dining room (since the bldg backs up to dirt in the back). There are some NOLA inspired paintings on the wall. Noise level was good, partially because of the light subscription that evening.
Our group of four arrived without reservation on a Saturday night and were immediately seated, as the place was about half full. Our server was pleasant and attentive. I ordered a Dixie Beer, brewed in NOLA with Mississippi River water. I didn’t really review the wine list, so I can’t give an opinion there, but any place billing itself as Cajun without carrying Dixie is a fraud. My dinner was Jambalaya, and a whole lot of it. It was nice and spicy, and the waiter was genuinely surprised I finished the mound of it. Others had a shrimp dish which was tasty. No dessert that evening as I had climbed a mountain of rice, but we may try that next time. Overall, a very pleasant evening with friends at an underappreciated restaurant.

I read fellow « Unilocaler» reviews on Redfish Bistro and it breaks my heart to hear it’s such a disappointment.
I recently found the delightful place through a friend who lives close by and would pick-​up their amazing gumbo for me.
Yesterday, we got another ToGo order of gumbo, spicy crawfish cake, and their sinful oreo beignet. It was wonderful, really warmed the soul on such a torrential cold night.
I don’t care what others say. I’m still going back to Redfish Bistro!

When Redfish first opened, I really enjoyed it. The last couple of visits, I’ve come home PO’d that I wasted money. The food prices have increased drastically and the quality is consistently decreasing. I couldn’t believe we were eating at the same place that I once loved.
Not sure how many lifelines Redfish has left, but I would venture to say not many.

Redfish was a big hit with me when it first opened, loved the creole shrimp & grits and crawfish étouffée, loved that it wasn’t yet overly crowded, enjoyed the wine menu. However, recent trips have shown that it’s following an unfortunate downhill path — more expensive prices for food that is just so-​so. I love Agave, so I will probably give Redfish another go at some point, in hopes they can pull it together.

So, I went back to Redfish this week, and continuing in the downhill trend of restaurants lately, I was disappointed by my experience. The scallops were just as good, but they seemed to serve a smaller portion size… only getting two scallops for $ 10, which was way more than I wanted to pay, and their side items are also overpriced. I won’t go back.

Delish seafood. For lunch there is an unbelievable fried catfish po’boy with red beans n rice. We had dinner there recently — ordered the swordfish entrée with scallops appetizer. Amazing.

This is another Grant Park favorite of mine. Whenever I have friends or family in town this is a must go too. I love just having dinner at the bar as well. A cool bar /​wait staff always make sure you’re never waiting.
The food is great and the menu has been the same for the last 2 years. Hey don’t fix it if it ain’t broke, but I’m modern and like a little variety.
Must haves (Ceaser Salad w/​Fried Oysters, The Duck Entrée, and oh Yes the Rum /​Rasin Bread Pudding)

their appetizers NEVER ever ever disappoint. if this is any indication, my mother is the biggest food snob i know. every time i try to impress her, she always says, eh, it was ok.
she actually ASKED to come back to redfish the last time she visited.
i’d recommend ordering the specials, since my bf always gets them and loves them, and i always wish i got them too.
contrary to other reviews, i think the service is impeccable.
valet parking annoys the (expletive) out of me, and they will not disappoint in annoying you in this regard if you are the same way.

I had a great experience at Redfish! I don’t know what happened to a lot of the earlier reviewers, but our service was wonderful – very attentive, gave great suggestions and was overall really friendly.
I tried the fried chicken and thought it was great – very flavorful crust and juicy on the inside. The mac & cheese wasn’t my favorite – it had chunks of ham and a lot of green onions in it. My b/​f had the crawfish cake and the étouffée and he enjoyed both. We were given our free kettle chips and remoulade! We shared the pecan pie with cream cheese and it was awesome!!!
We will definitely be going back to Refish!

One word to describe this restaurant… ick. If you’re looking for authentic creole cuisine, keep looking cause it is not here. I was so looking forward to enjoying myself at Redfish and well I just didn’t.
The problem is that if you’re going to name your place after a dish that is sooo beloved like Redfish you MUST BRING it and well they JUST DIDN’T. Very heavy on the FUSION but light on the authentic cuisine that you would hope to get. Also the service was just ridiculous.
For standard American fare I’m sure it’s probably fine but for the real deal, so sorry. I walked away thinking that I could have gotten a better meal at Captain D’s or Long John Silver.

Great Restaurant! I recently tried an entrée called the Airline Chicken Breast that was great.

I really enjoyed the food at Redfish. I got the «Redfish» (is that a fish?) and my girlfriend got something else seafoody which was also good. The redfish was perfectly prepared and light and flakey. I’m 6’3′ and can eat, so I guess the portion could be a bit larger to satisfy me.
The service however sucked! I got there and there was no valet (which by all means is fine by me, but I didn’t know what to do). I realize this is not the restaurant’s fault either. Hostess was crabby, as was the waiter. And now I read a review on here that they give you Cajun chips and dip! What the hell?! We got nothing? I will be going back tonight and edit this if I have a better experience. It’s definitely not as good as Agave (owned by the same folks).
***UPDATE*** Again I had bad service here. I had to beg for the chips, and they didn’t come until our meal did. I don’t know what it is, maybe I’m ugly, but they sit me in the back corner everytime, and I never get good service. I want to like this place, but AGAVE is soooo much better.

A welcome addition to the neighborhood, Redfish features simple and fresh creaole style seafood and other dishes. One owner is from Agava up the street, and the other is former chef/​owner of Tiburon Grill in the Highlands. These operators are experienced and know how to please. The restaurant is often crowded and seems to be an instant hit.

I went a few weeks after it opened and a bit late so maybe they weren’t at their prime. The best thing about the place is the Cajun chips and dip they give you at the beginning of the meal, absolutely amazing.
I got the jambalaya and found it bland and fishy. My friend got the fried chicken plate, ok but nothing special. I was expecting spicy delicious creole but redfish didn’t put out.
You can spend a whole lot of money here so be careful.

From the owners who brought you Cabbagetown’s Agave comes a great new creole restaurant. I love this place.
I hear pretty much everything is great, but my jambalaya was really first-​rate. They have a great wine list and a waitstaff who actually seems to know their stuff: ask for a recommendation. They have a solid selection of bold reds that stand up to the flavors of New Orleans.
The spice is amazingly balanced with the food, however. I think a lot of NOLA-​styled places go overboard with their seasonings, but Redfish gets it right. They do wonderful salads and it is really easy to fill up on the just-​fried kettle potato chips before your entrée arrives… try to resist doing so.
I hear the fried chicken is amazing here, and we plan to go back to get some… assuming we can resist the other creole treats!
The service is really amazing and the décor is nice and cozy. The only detraction is the valet parking (I’ve never understood valet parking, though).
