This place was pretty decent. I liked that it’s very spacious and servers are very friendly. I got the beef fried rice lunch and it was okay. It not the best I had but it wasn’t too horrible either. My friend got the vegetable steamed dumpling. And actually it was good. It’s not a small dumplings most chinese restaurants serve. It was actually full size big dumplings.

For weekend lunch, Oriental Gourmet has a dim sum menu. Our favorites include scallion pancakes, beef noodle soup, fried cruellers, and salty soybean milk. There isn’t the variety or carts that you’d find at Fortune, but the place is quieter and accommodates larger groups. On weekdays, their salt pepper fried chicken pieces with jalapeños is quite tasty. Combination he-fun noodles are also good.

This is a great restaurant with great service, food and attentive staff. We have been there at least 10 times in the past year to dine-in and everything has been consistent and great food. I wish I ordered extra food to go for the next day because the food is so good.

I cannot decide which was worse — the bland food or the unfriendly service. Arriving ahead of my guests, I informed the hostess that we intended to eat Peking duck, in the event extra time was needed to prepare this dish. No sooner had my six guests arrived than the Peking duck landed on the table. I requested the waiter to take it back to the kitchen because we wanted to have drinks first and then appetizers, as is customary, then the duck and other main dishes. He chose to argue, refusing to take it back. At that point, not wanting further embarrassment, I gave in. The waiter then left until I flagged him down to take our drink orders. later I called him back to take our main order, starting with the appetizers. It was as if no one had ever trained this person in being a waiter, much less in common courtesy. The management stood by, oblivious to all. There were only three other tables in the restaurant with customers and now I understand why. The duck was cold, dry, and obviously not fresh that day. Despite assurances that the Sichuan dishes would be spicy(and the pepper icon on the menu) there was nary a hint of spice. The other dishes were as tasteless as good hospital food. The chicken with peanuts had little chicken. The beef dish had little beef. There are a number of good Chinese restaurants in Washington which know how to take care of their customers and serve decent food. This is not one of them.

Went there for dim sum on the weekend and was pleased. You order the dishes you want rather than flagging down carts, which I find much more relaxing. I went be caused I was intrigued that the menu was a little different and had some traditional dishes on it and everything was delicious. The radish cakes, red bean cakes and scallion pancakes were all kind of the name thing with different fillings but they were all delicious. The sautéed rice cakes with pork was delicious. The fried crueler was very traditional and well done. I am still craving the crueler dipped in the warm soy milk. Did I mention I am from Taiwan? I love this stuff. I hope this place makes it. I want to go every weekend but something keeps getting in the way.

The best Chinese food I have had in the area. It’s a restaurant and not just a take-out place, so the price is a little higher than usual. But, you get what you pay for and the quality is better than any Chinese food I have had in Arlington. Enjoyed the soup and lo mein, and the General Tso was excellent!

Chicken was dark meat in every dish and had fat everywhere in it throughout our four dishes. Kung pao chicken was bland and not spicy, as was general tso, took two bites and threw the rest away. Lo mein terrible chow fun terrible, sweet and sour terrible. Will never go back

I went here because I heard they had Xiao Long Bao(Soup dumplings). We got a few other plates of filet fish, shrimp, and lo mein. The other plates were surprisingly good, but the soup dumplings weren’t good.

This place is our go-to for Chinese food in the area. Food here is always great. It’s a step up from your typical city take-out Chinese food and they have sit-down service with nice, accommodating waiters. They seem to do a lot of take-out business too, but have never partaken because by the time I get there, I’m too hungry to take it back home and eat it. We always order the Sesame Chicken. Solid crab rangoon and eggrolls(they give you two in one order, enough to share), the Mongolian Beef had a slimy flour texture on the meat… probably won’t order that again. They also let you upgrade your rice to fried for a buck extra.

I wanted to try their food but was rudely hung up on by the receptionist three times. she kept insisting that they dont deliver to my address but I live 4 blocks away. Every time I explained where I lived she would say that yes they deliver there, then when I would give her the address for delivery she would scream«WEDONTDELIVERTHERE» then hang up. In all honesty I wouldnt want to eat a place that screams repeatedly at their customers anyway.

Decided to give this restaurant a try after being disappointed with a few others in the area. I made a good decision. The phone order was quick and polite, the food arrived very quickly and was steaming hot and fresh. The veggies were crisp, the General Tso was outstanding. We also ordered Beef with Asparagus and Shrimp Fried Rice, both were excellent. We will definitely order from here again.

UPDATE: Arlington Magazine reported it REOPENED03/16/2015 under Peter Chang, who has trained chefs in 3 – 4 other restaurants in NoVa. Thus, all reviews are obsolete. .. . __________________________________________________________________ First, to those who complained about refusal to deliver, the restaurant is clear that delivery is 3 miles radius. Look, they can’t have the driver spend 20 minutes between stops for a $ 20 order, which is the time it takes to go 5 miles around here. Now to their cuisine… I only had their take out so can’t comment on service, and I only ordered comfort food several times and the food sat for about 20 minutes while driving home and gathering the family to eat. Beef Chow Fun — mediocre. Enough beef, and typically, this dish is drowned with soy sauce & oil. Usually, the distinguishing part is whether the chow fun(which is a rice noodle) is «springy» enough. Like pasta, it is entirely dependent on the pasta supplier, and theirs is mediocre which makes this dish also mediocre. Beef w/Broccoli — — the beef tasted like it was tenderized through corn starch and the large broccoli pieces weren’t cut to smaller ones. Chicken w/Asparagus — my 11 year daughter didn’t like the chicken but I was OK with it. There were more carrots than(expensive) asparagus. Combination Fried Rice — very good overall. I would go back, and have alternated between China Café(in Chesterbrook, McLean) and this place. I pick up a DVD from Redbox and their food several times a month. It’s is a place that you need to try for yourself and decide how it fits in with your lifestyle and budget. This restaurant is located in the Harrison St. shopping area, and in the plaza is a very busy Harris Teeter, Elevation Burger, a I think Mexican food place, Baskin Robbins, Wild Birds pet place, martial arts school, etc. Across is a Safeway, and Petco & Advanced Auto Parts down the street. The area is very busy and you may have some hassle finding a parking spece. I’m told here’s underground parking off the Harris Teeter.

The food is consistently good-to-great. I love the salted, seasoned pork chops but the wife poo-poos it if I try to order fried food too often. I’ve ordered SOMANY items but this is what I order on a routine basis: Peking duck: consistently great(remember that if you order this for delivery it doubles the delivery time). Crispy colorful rolls: A great alternative to egg rolls, which aren’t their best item. General Tso chicken: I think the best in the area. Salted, seasoned pork chops: see above intro. Crispy chicken with salted pepper. Thai basil makes it tasty. Lettuce wraps with shrimp: One of my wife’s faves. Ask for a few more lettuce leaves. Chicken and corn soup: This is similar to egg drop soup and great on a cold day. Fried rice dishes are great. The only downside is the frozen veggies used in them. Lo Mein: I usually order lo mein with shrimp but I ask them to not use carrots — I think they use too much in the dish. Steamed veggies: Bright and crisp. Great with a little hoison sauce drizzled on it. I try to avoid fish dishes for delivery as they don’t hold/travel well but the fish filet with black bean sauce is pretty durable. For you vegetarians or vegans: I really like the crispy chicken with salted pepper vegetarian dish. If you close your eyes real tightly you may think it’s the pork chops. PS: You’re allowed to be disappointed if a restaurant doesn’t deliver to your area but there is really no need to give one star because of it. It makes you look like a petty douchebag. Own your own restaurant or business and you might understand.

Sadly I cant comment on the food. I live in Rosslyn, a 10 minute drive on Lee Hwy, not even 10 if you drive like a normal person. After giving my address the lady said my address was too far for delivery. What the? Do they deliver in a bubble?

The food is decent here, but greasy. The dumplings are good here. The chicken with broccoli is just okay. The chicken tasted processed. Portions are generous. Prices are good.

A review for vegetarians. Skip the vegetarian beef/pork/seafood. Anything«chicken» is good. What’s the best? crispy chicken with salty pepper. A fried, salty, garlic-y delight.

I’ve been eating delivery from Oriental Gourmet since it opened. When I moved further from the restaurant I thought I might be out of their delivery area, but fortunately I was wrong. Though there have been times some years ago when the food has been less then stellar, this is still in my mind of the of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve eaten at in the DC area. I finally ate at the restaurant in person a few weeks ago and the service was excellent and the food was great. I love it.

This place has great service and great Chinese food. The peking duck is absolutely savorying. The pancakes are nice and warm and there is plenty of duck in one order. My family usually comes here for the Dim Sum because we are tired of eating the typical Chinese dishes(General Tso, Fried Rice, Szhechuan Beef, etc). One dish I like is the Xiao long bao– they’re are little dumplings filled with pork. It’s a bit hot in the middle– so you have to be careful! The Chinese cruller(sorta of like a donut except longer and not sweet) with the soy bean milk is nice and warming. A new item I’ve tried is the eight treasure rice with taro. It’s actually more of a dessert. It is sweet and a whole new way to eat taro. I think people should be more open to Chinese food. The dim sum menu is a good way to go! Who knows, you may happen to like this place like I happen to like it!

Oriental Gourmet is a cheap to moderately priced Taiwanese styled restaurant. The décor is very traditional and comparable to other Chinese restaurants in the area, but much cleaner than most. I really enjoy the Taiwanese dim sum on the weekends(I am not sure if they serve them during the weekday as well, since I’ve only gone on weekends) as an alternative to brunch. They are priced very reasonably, and my husband and I have managed to completely stuff ourselves and pay less than $ 30 dollars for our meal plus tips. My favorite dishes include the salty soy bean soup, beef noodle soup, steamed dumplings, and 8 treasure taro cake. Be aware that both the salty soy bean soup and beef noodle soup are large enough for 2 people to share! For those of you who have been to A&J in Annandale, it’s very similar! It’s not as well known though — I think primarily due to its location amongst non-Chinese stores(Harris Teeter and the Dog Bakery don’t exactly draw out the Asian crowds).
