We went there for lunch today. Indeed plenty of locals dine there but we were underwhelmed. The prix fix menu is now 24 €. We chose to order ala carte for different options. We had: seasonal salad– nothing special. Lettuce, tomato, onion, token olives. local bean dish– good Rabo de toro– ok. HUGE portion Lomo with pimientas– ok. Also very large portion. It is cold pork loin with strips of roasted red peppers and a pickled salad of sorts. We should have only ordered one of the main dishes. Though we were not crazy about either one. We had house vino tinto which was quite good. They charged us 2 € for the bread we never touched. I don’t mind that they charge if you eat any of it but whatever. The bill was 42 €. The service was very good, no complaints there. This is heavy food, maybe better for winter cold. Since others seem to like this place, maybe it was just us.

Fixed lunch menu for € 10? I’ll bite! My mom and I followed the recommendations in Rick Steve’s book for a lunch spot, and it took us FOREVER to find a place in Segovia that was open. The map from the tourist’s office is not drawn to scale! We finally came across this place and were won over by the fixed lunch menu. For the first course, we could choose between a lentil salad and carbonara spaghetti. For the second course, we could choose between cured ham and stewed peppers or meatballs, both served with a side of fried potato slices(not quite like American french fries). For dessert, we could choose among flan, chocolate cake with cream, cinnamon custard, and rice pudding. For drinks, we could choose a bottle of water of a bottle of wine! All of this for € 10, tax included! My mom and I were incredibly grateful that our waitress knew a decent amount of English(I had whipped out my iPhone to Google translate the menu). We both ordered the lentil salad, which was tastier than both of us had expected. My mom ordered the sliced ham and I ordered the meatballs, both of which were saltier(prompting us to drink our fancy glass bottle of water) than expected. The meatballs were tastier than the ham in my opinion, but the stewed green peppers that came with my mom’s dish were the highlights of the meal! For dessert, I chose the rice pudding while my mom chose the cinnamon custard. Hers was better than mine since it was not as sweet and the flavor wasn’t as overpowering, but I wished I had ordered the flan and she wished she had ordered the chocolate cream cake hahaha! All in all, a charming place with good food at a merciful price!
