Great place to come for the afternoon. Not a large wine selection but what they do have is great! Some old favourite cocktails and beer cocktails. Good setting and location

My best man was celebrating his 38th birthday this past weekend. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it as my wife just gave birth but wanted to buy him a nice scotch for his bday. It was a very busy Saturday night as it always is there and I got a hold of Darren(the bar manager) on the phone. He went above and beyond and went through the trouble of accepting my Visa payment over the phone, sent me a form to fill out and send back, and in the end, made it happen for me. He did all this while he was incredibly busy i’m sure. He was super polite and so helpful and I am a fan for life. He didn’t have to but went out of his way to make my best man’s birthday that much more special. So thankful for people like Darren!

The only thing stopping this place from being a solid five stars — the shepherds pie was piping hot for half while the other half was better than warm but bit hot. The rosemary and salt fries were deliciously hot, fresh, and not oily. Love it when a chef can make a fry taste like a potato and not a fryer!

This might be the worst pub food experience I’ve ever had in a thousand life times. I attended a friends birthday party(of 30 people). A few of us ordered the double cheese burger, curry fries, and chicken pot pie. The double cheese burger patties were so spicy and tasted like hockey puck sausages. The chicken pot pie was not a pot pie at all. It tasted like cat kibble flourished with an straw hat. Did I mention the bangers and mash? The gravy wasn’t gravy, it was some sort of sweet Barf purée and the sausages looked like Chinese lap cheong sausage.

The food was GOOD. We got fish and chips and chicken pot pie. Their fish and chips was not oily at all. I like fish and chips and most of the time I dont finish it or I should say I cannot finish it because it is oily. But their fish and chips, I finished it no problem. And I wasnot sick afterwards. My husband really liked the pot pie. He has been wanting to eat good chicken pot pie, so now he got it.

I really enjoyed the food, the drinks and the service. Even had a pleasant conversation with a stranger which is a far-fetched experience for Vancouver these days. A friend and I put together a charcuterie plate. Delicious but maybe marginally overpriced. It won’t prevent me from doing it again but it’ll be a consideration. I had a scotch egg for the first time and thought it was yummy. My S/O is a big whisky fan and he was thrilled to head here for a couple drinks after a concert. I’ll be back.

I booked a table for the Irish Heather and we were put in a small corner in Shebeen that was so cramped we couldn’t move around at all. We had a couple extra show up but that is bound to happen with a bigger group. It would have been nice to know that we weren’t going to be in the main room but stuck in the Shebeen. It was so loud it was hard to talk to anyone and so cramped that going to the bathroom was a pain in the ass. Food was ok and drinks took forever! Staff was super friendly so that was a bonus. Unfortunately we won’t go back here.

Just left this establishment earlier today. Had dinner there with a large group of folks. We had the speckle, duck proscuitto, scotch egg and the special pot pie — a stewed beef. All of the food was overly coated with salt. Salt is one of those simple ingredients that require a lot of skill and experience to use. I wonder if the chef was thinking the Sunday was too slow and as a way to push some extra pints — let’s use salt! Service was good! The only thing that was decent was the fries that came with the pot pie. Mediocre — I do not recall the food being this bad!

Firstly, excellent service. With ornery 8 and 11 yr olds in tow, we entered uncertain whether we’d make it past a first pint. Two pints delivered and perfectly toasted soda bread following, the pre-adolescent nastiness waned. Service was great! To a person, each went out of his/her way to charm the kids and us. We might have gone to the sushi place at which we made a reservation had it not been for some great Irish hospitality. Though we ended our meal went beyond $ 200 it was money well spent. The whisky flight really made for a pleasant evening. Food was tasty, timely, and decently portioned. Wine was too. Really, our best evening out in Vancouver … though it could have been truly unpleasant.

After wandering Gastown a bit, we found ourselves at this gastropub. The chalkboard outside told us they had the friendliest bartended in town. He was quite friendly indeed. We sat in the small outdoor patio outside, lined with bricked walls. It was very quaint though the tables were very unstable.(Keep in mind that service on the patio may be sparse). They have a very large selection of whiskies, if you’re into that sort of thing. Instead, I ordered a pint of Guinness and a double cheese burger. The burger was wonderfully presented and substantial(adequate for a $ 17 meal). The kale chips on the burger were perfectly crisp and green. I would recommend against getting the toppings on the fries, as for $ 3.50 for«upgrading» your fries, you don’t get much(literally a few specks of bacon and cheese; just don’t do it). The fries themselves were delicious though. When we went(before 5pm), it was $ 5 pints so get another Guinness instead.

Best Irish pub in Downtown! On St. Paddy’s day(of all days) I had the pleasure of enjoying a good old irish meal at this fine establishment. It was a cold, rainy day so some bangers and mash with scrumptious pot pie is just what the doctor had ordered. There is seating for about a hundred folks(my estimate). I like how the place is divided into two sections, one with dining style tables and the other with bar style. The staff were courteous and timely throughout the meal. As mentioned above, I had the bangers and mash. The dish size was superb and the taste was equally as good. On top of it all, the pot pie came in a veggie version — so my ol’ lady was a happy gal. My personal experience with Irish pubs measures half a dozen joints in Van, four/five in Philly, two in PDX and 1 in Whistler. It’s not a large volume but it ain’t nothing to laugh at either. If you desire a clean gastropub with a solid beer menu and fine staff, look no further.

Great drinks, average food. I come here here for their extensive whiskey menu — Macallan 18 is available for anyone looking for it. I tried the Morangerie cocktail(Glenmorangie, orange bitters, lemon) — very smooth, refreshingly tart with a bitter finish. Loved it. I’ve tried the food here a few times and have never been very impressed unfortunately. Stick to the drinking.

This was the first bar we hit while on a bar hopping spree. Someone had just cancelled a reservation which opened up space for us on a busy Friday night. We ordered the following food and cocktails. The cocktails were a good bargain for the price. 1) Black velvet(Guinness and cider. Quite good.) This was more like a poor man’s cocktail as the actual has champagne and Guinness. Fun fact here guineas goes to bottom. Scotch egg n pretzels with mustard are new. 2) Dirty snake bite: Adds ribens to the regular Snakebite(cider and lager) not bad. 3) Shandy:(lager and lemonade) Very light. Would not recommend, unless you are planfully avoiding alcohol that night. The food was expensive, and bordered on bad. 1) Curry fries: Badly prepared curry sauce and fries. Horrible! 2) A scotch egg preparation which was nothing special. Pricey. One of my friends ordered grilled cheese sandwich and it turned out to be an okay selection. Overall I would say this Irish pub is an okay place as long as you keep off the food menu.

It was alright. I would not call this place a pub, it was definitely a bar with a small kitchen in the back. Definitely a gastrobar. Standing room only and there wasn’t much of that. The décor and ambience was trendy, but why did they have a classic Belgian character as the main focal point of the pub? Tintin is not Irish! Even still the Guinness was smooth & cool. Just wish there were more space for me to enjoy the bar, I think I would have stayed longer.

If you’ve ever tried to organize a large group event on a Saturday night in Gastown, you know how difficult it can be to(A) find a place that even accepts reservations on weekends, and(B) find a place with adequate space for your party. I was organizing a bachelorette party for 15 guests and we needed a place to stop in for a round of drinks between dinner and dancing. I contacted several establishments via email and generally received a «sorry we don’t do reservations on weekends» or in some cases no response at all. The Irish Heather was the exception. I submitted a reservation request online and received an email confirmation that we were good to go within the hour. When our plans changed, and we needed to change our reservation time — twice — the reservations manager handled it wonderfully. On the night of the event we were running about half an hour behind, so I called to let the management know, and they said it was no problem at all. We arrived around 9, with a giant blow-up phallic friend in tow, and were all promptly seated at the«long table». As this is more of a whiskey/beer spot, the cocktail list was small but good. The whiskey sour was excellent. Several people in our party also ordered desert and seemed to enjoy it. While I can’t comment on the food, the service was prompt and the atmosphere was lively. The staff were also graciously put up with our bachelorette antics, which involved having everyone at the long table sign the giant blow-up phallic friend, having the manager leave a voicemail for the groom-to-be, and having the server photograph our group. Overall, wonderful service all around. I highly recommend it for a group night out.

Pretty cool Irish gastropub in the historic gastown. At the intersection of Blood Alley and Carrall, bang at the center of all the touristy action. The«pub» has a distinctively non-traditional feel with exposed brick and vintage advertisement posters splayed on the walls. It’s sharp and modern, yet boasts some fairly good Guinness. The entrance to the place is through the main bar, snaking around to an adjoining room, where there are a couple two-tops and a large, long wooden table. A café is tacked on to the front of this«long table» room, but it’s closed at night. Behind the pub there is an amazing whiskey bar which I regrettably did not get to try. On the night I visited, the pub was lively and inviting. I made a reservation on Open Table and unfortunately was placed in the back«long table» room where a large party understandably gobbled up the majority of the servers’ attentions. Ordering was slow and the chips appetizer wasn’t presented until nearly 40 minutes into this endeavor. Luckily, they were comped and I appreciated that. The beef and Guinness pie was very good and evoked no complaints. It’s a cool pub in a cool part of town. Ask for a table in the main bar and forego the back room unless you’re a large party.
