Notturno

Although she got his nationality wrong (Australia is not England), my friend was right in saying Bartender H (just H) is one skilled dude.
I’m a creature of habit when it comes to choosing a cocktail. I usually start with an Old Fashioned. What H produced was one sexy creation. Just look at below photo. The glass has a leather band.
I can’t really describe how much he nailed his recipe and technique. It’s just damn good.
We also ordered food but this place doesn’t have a real kitchen. The chef just has a couple hot plates to work with. We shared burrata and chick peas, carpaccio, and smoked sardines. They were ok but next time I’ll just drink.

As the three wise (in their minds anyway) people wandered the dark streets of Vancouver searching for a restaurant that could seat them, lo and behold Notturno appeared in the distance.
Seated at the bar, they were welcomed by the bartender/​mixologist (although he hates that word) H. Yes H. Just H. He was adamant it is just H.
What’ll you have? he asked.
Booze we replied in unison. After a perusal of the special cocktails we decided to share a bottle of Prosecco.
The noticing the menu board, we all got a bit splooshy (go Archer) and ordered the burrata straight up and the Salumi and cheese board.
We found heaven.
3 bottles of Prosecco later, plus a few bartenders choice drinks we left in a much better mood than when we arrived.
And isn’t that the whole point of going out?

Terrible. Small, loud and rude staff. I won’t bother going there again, plenty of better options nearby

So we tried to have drinks here but were turned away by the rude bartender who told us he cannot serve us at all because our group is too big. We came in as two couples and had another couple joining us later. There were at least 8 free seats in the place we even said we are fine sitting separately and he just said ‘no we don’t do that’. Have no idea what his problem was but what a jerk! Apparently four well dressed folks looking for a casual drink aren’t his cup of tea — perhaps we needed to ask for a single plum floating in perfume served in a man’s hat. Take a long walk off a short pier Notturne!

A cozy spot and the food was amazing. Great value and generous pours with unique wines to choose from. We shared a delicious burrata with a light pomodoro sauce and a warm octopus + olive salad, it was one of the best things I’ve had in a long time.

I really like small places with character! Here the owner is passionate about Italian cuisine and you can taste it while trying the various appetisers, cheeses and their daily pasta dish. A small menu with authentic choices and good ingredients. The wine list and cocktails are great, too!

If bar is full over at L’Abbattoir, pop in here for a drink. Great place for cocktails. The place is not suitable for big groups, so don’t bring your cattle.

Come here once in a while, awesome cocktails and friendly service, good energy and atmosphere. Only complaint was the bartender is too nice. Some chick was being super loud and annoying the rest of the room– sounded like the bartender knew her– politely asked her to leave and she threw a fit. Started swearing at the bartender, causing a scene. He finally kicked her out, took him forever to muster up the courage to tell her she was bothering people. Anyways, aside from crazy industry people, seems like a cool place to hang out.

Long time customer. I come here at least once a month. I’ve brought both clients and friends and each party i bring has come back several times. H is not a bartender, he is an alchemist. Bill and Wilson remind me constantly that the key to amazing food is flawless execution and simple, yet quality ingredients. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Great cocktails, lovely little room. Unfortunately though for a bar, you need to be very quiet, or the bartender will scream at you to shut up.

I give this place 3 stars for the food. They have a small area to concentrate on food, and they do a good job at that, however this place is let down by the service, and more importantly, their head bar man. Should I be in the mood for sharing plates, tapas and wine again, I’d much rather the sardine can.

I have a lot of bartender friends, several of them near geniuses, but H consistently produces the highest quality most innovative cocktails in Vancouver. Playlist could be a little better and a little louder.

I had a great time in this little but super nice place… The wine was excellent… And the appetizers just delicious… In addition, The service was very friendly… I definitely have nothing to complain!.. I can’t give them less than 5 stars… Everything was just great!

If you want to try new cocktails. This is your place!
The cocktails on this place is amazing. After two visits to this place I am convinced. You will find the most interesting and exciting cocktails in gastown here. Very friendly staff that takes their time.
Cozy and nice atmosphere. Perfect for a drink before or after dinner.
Have bit tired their food but it looks really good and from talking to other guests it seems really good as well.

I had high hopes for this place, super cute and lots of great reviews. The vibe was cool, food looked amazing (although I was just there for a drink). What let the experience down was the intense bar manager, who is quite possibly one of the rudest hospitality professionals I’ve ever dealt with in my life. This is a shame as I loved my cocktail but I won’t recommend this place to my friends.

My second time hitting this Gastown staple. The food is fresh, delicious and served with charm by Willie & H. We ordered the Lamb Peposo Stew, Farrotto, Burratta and the pasta Feature. Every dish was PERFECT! Flavourful, rich and piping hot. I can’t believe it took me so long to try this spot… I’ve been twice in two weeks and can’t wait to go back again. I kinda wish my friends had been in the mood for cocktails as I hear nothing but amazing things about their constantly reinvented cocktail program! All in all AMAZING!

This is the remaining little hidden gem of Gastown.
I wouldn’t tell anyone that they serve the most delicious classic cocktails, have a fine selection of elaborated italian wines, and make food in front of your eyes.
That’s my favorite place for a low key, relaxing, delicious moment in good company.

the star of the show is a bartender known as ‘h’.
He will learn a little of your interests and either recommend a drink, or simply mix one of his amazing cocktails chosen just for you.
This little gem features only local beers which most bars won’t have in stock, italian wines, and a huge variety of flavour essences in eyedropper bottles along with a well stocked bar of the usual boozes.

Why is it that Gastown has all the cool little spots? The unpretentious, places you can drop in at any moment and enjoy a great beer or wine, nibble of lovely bites and feel the pulse of the city…
After a business coffee meeting at Milano was interrupted by closing time (9PM-​seriously???), we were looking for a spot to continue our plans and create bigger dreams. Notturno not only fit the bill, but gave us inspiration!
We just had two feature beers from Italy and Tuna carpaccio, but it was sublime.
SPECIAL BONUS: come Wednesday evening for $ 5,00 food, $ 5,00 wine and $ 5,00 beer.
