Very cheap food + good food for food court. The white meat from the appetizer menu is really good. Also, don’t get the sweet and sour soup. It taste really weird

I LOVE Joy’s salt and pepper chicken(6.50)!!! It’s got this really light batter on it that surprisingly is NOT greasy! It’s not the biggest meal box that you can get in the food court, but it’s probably the tastiest there!

Joy’s Taiwanese Food is a food court restaurant at Parker Place in Richmond. It is the first place you see on your right as you walk through the food court entrance. The offerings are all very reasonably priced. There was no one in line. Though that did not dissuade me as the day I visited was very rainy and the food court was about to close shortly. I did see the review below about the beef noodle soup, but I decide to order it anyway as I needed something to warm me up from the cold evening night air. The price is cheap at just $ 5.75 but you get what you pay for here. The meal was served in a plastic bowl on a food tray. The soup lacked flavor and the noodles were just okay. The beef was decent, though I prefer when it is cut into larger chunks whereas the ones here are more like slivers. I do think the restaurant is worth a try if you like Taiwanese food. Prices are cheap and you should feel reasonably full. Though I would suggest skipping on the soup and going for one of the rice dishes here instead. Again, it is in the Parker Place food court so remember to stake out a table if it is busy. If you don’t want to do that, get takeout or go during an off hour.

The owners use to have a restaurant on Granville and No3(called Lins) but closed down about 10 years ago due to condo development in that area. I thought this gem was gone for good until my friend told me they opened at Parker place. The food is still really good. The best dishes are the spicy wonton, beef roll and deep fried chicken on rice. Get a drink for $ 1 if you order an entrée. We have the same dishes every time we go. Not a big fan of their noodle soups.

Another gem in the PP(haha) food court! It’s not gourmet, but for a quick Taiwanese fix, it’ll suffice! I’ve tried their beef rolls and minced meat on rice, both were authentic and pretty tasty! Every meal comes with a free hot drink or $ 1 for iced.

Last review done in 2011 led me to wonder how good this place is. Let’s just say I am not very impressed with anything other than the price. Ordered the beef noodle, vermicelli with shredded pork, and fried chicken. The beef noodle was lackluster. Soup had a strong beef aroma but lacked any taste. Noodles were tender as well as the few pieces of vegetable. The bowl only had 4 small pieces of beef. Vermicelli wasn’t any better and the pork has been rehashed from leftovers as it was dark and dry. Chicken was decent. Service was fine and the lady was patient with me.

Good stuff. The food court is crappy and crowded. Also parking can take a long time. Both are not directly the restaurant’s fault but I wish they could move to a better location.

* Food court Taiwanese * This corner spot under a brightly lit sign( ) had a grumpy grandma behind the counter whom I am assuming is named«Joy» because she certainly wasn’t «joy“ful. She isn’t big on talking or smiling, but dishes out some decent Taiwanese grub for a food court. I had the Taiwanese fried chicken on rice. It was a very generous portion of light non-greasy fried chicken served on top of rice with some Taiwanese side dishes and a small scoop of frozen veggies(meh). The cabbage with fungus was the best of the sides. Photo: Overall a nice quick and tasty lunch spot even with the grumpy grandma!

I remember when they used to have their place called Lin’s on Granville. The property was sold and now there resides a big apartment building. So where did they go? Well, they moved to Parker Place. The people are the same, the food is the same and as good as ever. Except now, it’s called Joy’s. Joy’s Taiwanese Food. It’s the first place on the right as you enter the Food Court /Mall entrance South side. They’ve been here for a few years now. I know that most of these Chinese food court places don’t get much of a write up, but I feel that this place ought to have a proper spot in Unilocaldom. For those of you who knew Lins’ from before, they bring the same flavours, textures and consistency that we all once knew. Taiwanese beef noodle soups, Taiwanese style wuntun’s and dumplings and so on. All featured here. Basically everything Taiwanese culinary wise, I find I like here. That’s all that really needs to be said. The only setback is that it’s in the food court, but that’s minor. It’s the food that I come here for.
