Never coming back again. We had dinner last night here to celebrate my daughter’s 4th birthday. After we finished our food, we wanted to cut the cake we just bought downstairs at the bakery. We brought our own knife, plates and utensils and didn’t need anything from the restaurant. They informed us that they would need to charge us $ 10 for eating the cake inside their restaurant. «Company policy» they said. Really? I understand most restaurants post«no outside food and drinks» to ban people from bringing drinks & food they bought elsewhere to eat in here. We weren’t buying dinner somewhere else and bringing it in here to eat. We were having cake for a little kid. It’s one thing if we were using their plates and utensils but WEHADOUROWN. The $ 10 charge seemed arbitrary too because one waitress had to ask another person. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told the manager was conveniently not available. It’s outrageous for them to ask for a $ 10 charge for 4 adults and 2 kids to have cake in their restaurant. I’m not bringing anything in here that they make or sell. I would be happy to buy a cake from them if they sold it. Asking me to pay $ 10 for nothing? No thanks. Want to charge me for the milk I brought in for my kids too while you’re at it? We always make a point to come to this restaurant whenever we visit Vancouver, but we will not be back after this experience. The waitresses were less than sympathetic, kept repeating«company policy, company policy» over and over again. Sure, they said they were sorry, but they didn’t seem sorry at all. Was $ 10 really worth losing a customer over? Why not be flexible and make a little kid happy on her birthday by allowing her to have her birthday cake? Thanks for ruining my daughter’s birthday, Chef Hung.

Noodle deserves a 3.5 stars, but service is horrible and doesn’t even deserve 1 star. The server didn’t ask who got at the door first and start bringing people behind me in. I wasn’t really happy at that point then, I waited half an hour for my noodle, and the server and the manager didn’t give a shit.

Took my folks here for a snack because it seems their portions have gotten smaller, so it’s all right, had dim sum a few hours earlier. We’re quite the eaters. Love the location inside Aberdeen mall, convenient. And they have their own washrooms too. Braised beef tender as usual. Comfy wall seating.

Maybe my standard is too high? Or maybe the beef noodle soup is just better in LA. I could taste the msg.

The moment we(my family of 3) entered, there was no one around to show us a table. I looked around the restaurant and found almost half of the place empty. So, finally I got a table and the waiter brings the tea BUT there was something on the edge of the cup and he just picked it up with his fingers and pretended that nothing was there before putting it down on the table… Yup. I did not touch that cup at all, I do not know what he picked off of from the cup. My dad ordered the champion braised beef noodle, the kelp side dish, the pig ears, the tomato beef noodle, and the marinated beef roll. The champion braised beef noodle wasn’t bad. However, the meat in the tomato beef noodle was extremely hard and chewy. It felt like I was chewing a 2 week old piece of gum! The marinated beef roll was soooo salty and lacked a meaty flavour; which was quite disappointing because they looked really good. Not going back to eat again… especially because of the waiter.

Decent homemade noodles but the wraps is a must have. Got the award winning beef shank noodle just to see how award winning it is. The beef is very tender and and soup base is beefy. I ordered the thick noodle and definitely it is made in house and fresh base on the taste and texture and chewiness. I thought the soup was suppose to be a little spicy but there was barely anything then only one soup I had this shot of spicy. The wraps seems to be very popular. So I tried the soft shredded dry pork & egg wrap. It was delicious and very filling. Service wise the staff seems fairly friendly.

Boyfriend got the traditional beef noodle while I got the tomato broth one The noodle texture was al dente and perfect the broth was good. Unfortunately the meat was not very tender. I did not like the tomato broth very much and wished I got the original. The beef roll was so-so.

After a long trip in from D.C., and before we set out for Whistler, we were pleasantly surprised to find Chef Hung’s open and so close to YVR. It was so good, and I was so starved for good Chinese food, that we left Whistler earlier than we would have on the way back to swing by Chef Hung’s before flying out. The beef noodle soup was pretty amazing. It wasn’t necessarily as amazing as the beef noodle soup that I had gotten in Taiwan when I was there a few months ago, but it was still some of the best I’ve had on this side of the Pacific. For three of us, we ordered(and were promptly stuffed): 2 bowls of their champion beef noodle soup(all promptly demolished) cold mixed sliced dry tofu(was least favorite of items ordered) pork and cabbage dumplings(amazing! fresh dumplings are the best!) ground pork cake(fried and crispy, filling was tasty) chive pancake(serviceable, but too dry) On the way back, for two of us, we ordered: 2 bowls of their champion beef noodle soup(it was that good!) chives, pork and shrimp dumplings(still tasty, but liked the others more) preserved egg, dried pork and tofu in soy sauce(weak link of the meal, wasn’t worth it) Also had serviceable bubble tea, which was good but not the star of the show. They had plenty of shaved ice dessert options, too, but we didn’t partake(too full!). Overall, the first trip was more satisfying. It might have been that it was the first time we had it, or the second time might have felt more like a downer because it was highly anticipated. Either way, it was worth the trip, and I’d come back if flying out to Vancouver in the future.

Food: 2.5÷5 Service: 3⁄5 Décor: 2⁄5 Price: 2.5÷5 A bit too pricey, broth is great and thick, but noodle just okay. Side dishes are not too good, their chicken nugget cannot compare to other Taiwanese bubble tea house especially pearl castle or even aberdeen food court. Their drinks just worse then the regular bubble tea house. So, just go for the beef noodle and nothing else from chef hung.

I enjoyed broth, but my husband thought it is too thick. If you are a noodle and meet lover this could be a good spot. If you add chili sauce on the table into broth, your dish will be more flavorful. I am not a noodle or meat lover, but I am giving 4 instead of 3 as I was pleasant by their service(which is unexpected) and the sidedish(some sort of cabbage) they provide you when you order noodle was great with noodle. Yum!

After a rigorous workout, hanging out at Chef Hung’s is the way to go! As you walk into Chef Hung’s you are greeted by a freaky display of floating noodles moving up and down. Whoa — you’ll know it when you see it. Moving on. The food at this place includes a wide variety of snackables(sides like beef rolls, chicken nuggets, the usual Taiwanese fare and more). We dug into the beef rolls right away — super tasty — but different. The wrap seemed a bit fluffier, and while the beef was a bit drier than I usually like it, the ratio of beef to cucumber made the roll light and fresh tasting(not overly greasy). The real winner of it all though was the beef shank and tendon noodle soup. Freshly made(wide) noodles in a deliciously flavourful broth and huge chunks of tender beef and melt-in-your-mouth tendon. Add extra spice if you’d like, but this bowl of amazingness works with or without. Side note: These guys have one of the most thorough ordering sheets I’ve ever seen. You can even customize the ice level and sweetness level of your bubble tea(none, 50%, 80%, regular).

I absolutely adore this place, the noodles are really al dente(my favourite) and they give you quite a bit of meat(love the tendon and shank) to go with all noodles! The best thing here though, is the dumplings… chive, pork and shrimp all deliciously seasoned in a light soup base. They’re so good, bursting with flavour. The price isn’t cheap but the quality is worth it! :)

Champion Taiwanese Beef Noodle?! I definitely had high expectation before my visit to Chef Hung. I am even willing to pay $ 13 to try this out. At this price point, I expect something that is so amazing that would have brings tears to my eyes. Flat Thick Noodles was good. Love the texture and the chewiness. But both the broth and braised beef were disappointing bland aside from saltiness. The side dish we ordered on the other hand was just bland and under seasoned. Maybe it is me that not used to the«Champion» level of how authentic Taiwanese noodle should tasted like. I left a little confused but now I know I love my homemade Taiwanese noodle the best!

Chef Hung Taiwanese beef noodle is located in Aberdeen center, I have been there once but never return for few years. We planned to shop at Diaso and wanna have a quick bite but not at food court. Therefore, we gave them another chance. We ordered few dishes to share… Award-Winning beef shank, tendon and tripe with noodle in soup, it was good but salty. House-made chives dumplings in soup — It’s good and tasty. Pan fried chives pancakes — It’s fresh and portion quite big. Wrapped beef roll — the worst wrapped beef roll I had in Richmond. The roll was cold and the wrapped dry and cracked. It’s slow and unfriendly service, average food and overpriced. No wonder I didn’t return for years.

Chef Hung’s is one of my family’s regular stops when we visit Vancouver, and has been for a couple of years now. It’s not a flashy/trendy place, nor is it a hip hole-in-the-wall, but this place delivers consistently delicious Taiwanese staples time after time. Taiwanese people love beef noodle soup, and I’m no exception. The #1 and #4 are just what beef noodle soup should be, and I always get it with the flat noodle. While the flat noodle is not the traditional type of noodle for the dish, it’s really well made and goes with the broth beautifully. The beef is always tender and flavorful, and the broth is hearty and beefy but not overly salty. The side dishes here are really good, too, and hold their own next to the main attraction. The mixed baby cucumbers, beef wrap, and chive pancakes are excellent, and we always get them to accompany the noodles. Three side dishes plus two bowls of noodles have always been enough to stuff our family of three. I’ve only had drinks there once, but was impressed with their passionfruit juice with QQ jelly, which was very refreshing. If you don’t feel like getting an extra drink, though, their complimentary tea is also pretty good. The space is clean and welcoming and the staff is always nice, making for a relaxing experience overall. With consistently tasty and satisfying food and a nice atmosphere, I can see this place being a favorite for a good long time.

Heard that the Chef was a three time winner for his beef noodle soup in Taiwan. So had some high expectations. We came for Saturday lunch at this spot in the Aberdeen mall, and the place wasn’t too busy. You order by filling out a sheet with your orders and giving it to the waiters. Unfortunately they neglected to tell us this and also to give us a sheet. So we spent 10 minutes wondering why no one was servicing us. We were slightly surprised that most of the champion soups aren’t really what we would consider traditional Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Not quite what I’m used to, but they were tasty and no MSG. Each bowl is a pretty decent size portion and all the meat was also soft, juicy, and flavorful. You get a choice of different noodles: flat, thin, or vermicelli. The flat noodles are big thick handmade noodle that are chewy. The thin ones are basically smaller version of the the flat noodles. We didn’t try the vermicelli. N1 Champion Beef Shank with Noodle in Soup — The closest champion soup to traditional beef noodle soup. Solid beefy goodness. N2 Champion Beef Brisket with Noodle in Clear Soup — Uses a light clear soup, hard to tell but perhaps chicken stock based? Wasn’t bad, but I’d prefer something heaver to pair with the strong flavor of the beef. N3 Champion Braised Beef with Noodle in Tomato Soup — Has a light tomato broth. Unfortunately I’m not a huge fan of tomato soup. N4 Award-Winning Beef Shank, Tendon & Tripe with noodle in soup — Same soup base as N1, but with different meats. N6 Braised Beef Tendon & Beef Shank with Noodle in Soup — This one actually has a beef soup base similar to N1 and N4 but with a stronger thicker flavor. Definitely my favourite soup base.

The food is really good. The handmade noodles is the right tenderness, especially the flat noodles. The beef tendon, shanks, etc are tender and delicious. The beef broth is good but the broth for the tomato dish has more flavor. Maybe because of the different items in it. The size of the bowls are decent, not super huge but enough to satisfy your hunger. Service is ok but I’ve seen worse at other places. I’ve gotten my food and bbt quickly but you may need to wave down a waitress to pickup your sheet. Oh yeah, you have a menu sheet that you check off the items you want. I would go again when I want good noodles, tender beef and bbt.

Was the food really bad? No. Was the food really good? No. Was the service really bad? No. Was the service really good? No. Was it overpriced? Yes. Will I go again? Probably not. Overall… The champion beef shank with noodle in soup was not bad in terms of flavour… Not as spicy as I wanted though. There’s literally only one baby bok choi in it. The texture = too chewy for my liking. The crispy green onion pancake was not the best I’ve ever had, but nor is it the worst. I miss the place on broadway that used to do layered green onion pancakes :(

Chef Hung is located in Aberdeen Center(Richmond). The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived around 7ish — 8pm. The interior is clean and has an upscale feel to it. There were tables for two and tables to fit a group. There’s also a private room in the back for larger parties. Their specialty is their Taiwanese beef noodle soup, but they also offer other items for non-beef eaters. I ordered a plain noodle soup and had the choice to choose my noodles(e.g., thin, rice noodle, vermicelli, or flat noodle). The broth and noodles were delicious and handmade. The people in my party enjoyed what they ordered. We also shared some side dishes, which were good. I would revisit if I was in Richmond again.
