Awesome place to get cheap(used) bike parts or get assistance with a repair. Unfortunately someone stole my wife’s bike seat and post. Only a couple weeks earlier someone stole the rear wheel. Damn you bike thieves. Luckily I had a spare wheel with the cassette but this time I didn’t have a spare bike seat. After checking out places like MEC and Canadian Tire, it was going to cost at least $ 30 to replace both the post and saddle. I had visited BikeWorks once upon a time in one of the older locations and thought I’d give it another shot here. The new location on 102 Street is great! Organized, tidy, and enough space for multiple people to work on their bike. I brought the bike in and usually I’d just do a guess and check on the seat post size but they actually had a special tool to measure it. I find it odd but there are no standards for seat post sizes so they usually range from about 25 mm to 31 mm. After that we found a seat post that fit and a saddle that looked comfy and functional. I put them together and it was just that easy. Total cost? $ 9.00. Less than 1⁄3 of what it would cost new. While I was there, even experienced riders came by to get help on their bike and find parts for cheap. The staff here are knowledgeable and are all volunteers. I thank them for their time that they spend here to assist others and to encourage cycling, which is not always easy in a city like Edmonton. I would highly recommend BikeWorks if you need help fixing your bike, looking for parts, or even finding a used bike.
