Déjà deux trois fois que je me retrouve embarqué au Houtsiplou et à chaque fois un résultat très satisfaisant ! Bön, on va être honnête dés le départ, j’aime bien les brasseries et j’aime encore plus les burgers. Cela né pouvait donc que matcher entre nous!
Sans être extraordinaire, le décor est sympa! C’est recherché, c’est assez unique. On a tout sauf l’impression de finir dans une brasserie lambda! L’endroit est encore assez grand avec des tables assez larges. A une époque où les chouettes restaurants adaptés aux groupes sont durs à trouver, je suis content d’avoir Houtsiplou dans mon carnet d’adresse.
Pour ce qui est de la nourriture, c’est bon, c’est facile tout le monde aime bien, tout le monde est content! J’ai testé aussi bien les burgers que l’américain et ce fut deux très bonnes réussites. J’ai même trouvé mon bonheur au niveau des bières et mon amie qui fêtait son anniversaire a eu droit une part de gâteau au chocolat avec un feu de bengale! Et cerise sur le gâteau, tout le restaurant a entonné la petite chansonnette que nous connaissons tous. Sympa!
En bref, resto à conseiller pour un bon petit repas entre amis. Sans avoir besoin de toucher à la haute gastronomie, tout le monde en ressortira content!

Belle carte, suggestions aussi surprenante qu’appétissante, un incontournable à Bruxelles pour les gros mangeur et fins gourmets.

La carte est bien sympathique et propose des plats du jour.
Personnellement, j’ai comme à mon habitude opté pour le burger (le JCVD), hé bien je vous le conseille! Il est très bien cuit et très très bon !
Et en dessert, le tiramisu maison au spéculoos est juste délicieux. Une bouchée a suffit à réveiller en moi les souvenirs de mon enfance et de la mère faisant du tiramisu.
Le service et aussi très sympa. Il n’y a rien à dire :-)

Que viva Houtsiplou les Bains ! C’est typiquement ce type d’adresse qui montre la belgitude attitude: j’adore ! La carte est drôle, l’endroit mignon, la terrasse est agréable en été même si un peu bruyante parfois à cause du rond point. Si vous êtes près des fêtes ou que vous voulez une excuse pour vous rappelez de celles-​ci goûtez leur burger foie gras !

Un lieu chaleureux, des serveurs agréables et de bon conseil, et des plats dans l air du temps … mais aussi des plats traditionnels (comme le stoemp saucisse. .delicieux, proposé sur la meme carte qu une tartine boeuf/​wasabi (très bonne aussi)).
Il faut préciser que les plats sont TRÈS COPIEUX… et qu’ on s’y retrouve au niveau qualité prix.
Je reviendrai si je repasse à Bruxelles..

Excellent petit restaurant de Bruxelles découvert récemment, ou se mélangent convivialité, chaleur, mais surtout explosions de saveurs!!! Chaudement recommandé a quiconque souhaite découvrir de bons petits plats de brasserie, un soir sans idée :)

Really nice to sit outside on this beautiful place. Don’t expect refined food, but just some basic burgers etc. Not expensive.

Houtsiplou is a great dinner spot walking distance from Grand Place. A friend and I recently stopped by while visiting Brussels and were impressed with their menu and friendly service. Their menu is largely comprised of burgers, all which sound delicious. There were also a few daily specials that looked good.
Overall the food was tasty and the portions very generous. Burgers were about 15 euros. Also important to note, they serve breakfast and lunch, but are closed midafternoon.

Un resto belge sympathique. Accueil et cadre agréables.
Le service également rapide.
Le pain de viande et le stoemp étaient super bons, les prix également corrects.
Une bonne adresse pour venir essayer des spécialités belges.

Ambiance super conviviale, carte simple mais variée, décor teinté de belgitude et un personnel toujours au top, voilà ce qui fait de l’Houtsiplou mon spot préfère en matière de burger.

Le Classico ! Ben oui, question burger, pourquoi faire dans l’originalité? Hier soir j’ai à nouveau misé sur une valeur sûre, et je n’ai pas été déçue. La viande est au top et les frites mmmmmmh ! Leur cola est pas mal non plus, si j’ai bien compris, il a quelque chose de spécial… un cola pression ?! Ça m’étonne mais c’est ce qu’on m’a dit, je pense.
Bön, la prochaine fois je tournerai le dos à leur super peinture murale; mon amie n’a pas dû trouver ça super agréable que je lui regarde par dessus l’épaule pendant tout le repas… Du coup, je me suis dit, c’est aussi un lieu idéal pour manger seul, mais face à la peinture, alors !

Le houtsiplou est un chouette resto place Rouppe. Les deux plus de l’endroit sont le cadre — tant la déco intérieure que la terrasse — et le fait que les
sont sympas. Au niveau des plats, c’est très copieux, assez bon mais pas léger du tout. C’est pour moi l’endroit parfait quand on a une grosse faim après une grosse soirée et qu’on a envie de se remettre l’estomac à l’endroit. Mon must: l’hamburger mozzarella pesto.

Rad place! The Holumi burger was absolutely delicious. They could do with a couple more vegetarian options but overall great service with meals ranging from 12 – 18 €.

Nouveau gérant qui a voulu redynamiser l’endroit. J’ai tenté le hamburger au canard, sauce au poivre et foie gras. Une pure tuerie si l’on retire la tranche de cornichon qui casse l’harmonie des goûts. Dégustation couplée à une Rodenbach, parfaite pour ce type de plat (même si la version en fût de chêné aurait été mieux).

Très bon petit restaurant ! La nourriture est bonne, le personnel est gentil et le décor est sympa. De plus, pour les personnes végétariennes, plusieurs options sont offertes.
Bref, j’ai beaucoup aimé ma soirée là-​bas. Je recommande ce restaurant sans hésiter ! :)

Terrible place, overpriced, the food was just average and tasteless. Just regular burgers and tasteless stuff. Very disappointed as my expectations were high based on prior reviews.

Great spot in central Brussels, I came on Monday, plenty of empty tables. FYI many restaurants and museums in Brussels are closed on Mondays. Anyway, service was very good, got exactly what I was looking for on this rainy day, mussels, fries and a good Belgian beer. Wifi works well. Strongly recommend for laid back Belgian food. Also seems like a nice place to rest for a coffee or beer earlier in the day.

Quand c’est très mauvais, il n’y a pas grand chose à dire.

Le HOUTSIPLOU c’est encore mieux que excellent. L’endroit est joli comme tout. Original, décalé et … bruxellois. La terrasse est hyper agréable. C’est un peu bruyant en heure de grande influence mais franchement, ça fait partie du jeu !
Le service est souriant, agréable, conciliant. «Heuuuu… je suis au régime, je peux avoir une salade sans gras./sans sucre/​sans rien ?» Bref, j’exagère mais en résumer, ils sont cools ! Ca peut parfois être un peu long mais bon, y a du monde, on pardonne.
La nourriture? OMG. Les produits sont frais, dans la vague du moment … on mange des produits naturels, goûteux, cuisinés avec attention et ça se voit et se goute dans l’assiette. Les quantités sont incroyable et du coup, les prix raisonnables. Tout est soigné, j’adore.
Les burgers, les tartines, les salades … et même les plats du jour plus classique sont délicieux.
Un lieu incontournable à Bruxelles ! :)

Le resto est vraiment sympa, et la cuisine bonne mais pas exceptionnelle. Nous avons tous pris un burger et personne n’a été déçu mais ce né sont pas les meilleurs de Bruxelles
Par contre le service est impeccable et manger sur la terrasse est un plaisir !
En somme une bonne adresse ou je reviendrai sûrement avant une soirée dans le centre ville

L’Houtsiplou est une petite brasserie Bruxelloise assez sympathique, aux allures coloré et à la décoration originale. Il faut toutefois noté que, victime de son succès l’attente est parfois très longue pour obtenir une table et il faut donc aussi parfois s’armer de patience face aux multiples demandes de la clientèle.
La cuisine n’a rien de très originales, les produits sont frais et travailler avec respect, mais né vous attendez pas à de nouvelles saveurs ou des plats transcendants. Cependant, c’est une petite brasserie qui attend d’elle ce qu’on exige: de bien manger ! Que ce soit pour les petites faims, que pour les grandes faims, vous devriez y trouver votre compte. Les stars de l’établissement sont leurs burgers, mais des petits-​déjeuners, des entrées, des plats divers, des salades, des soupes ou encore différentes tartines sont également au menu pour des prix assez démocratiques.
Lors de ma visite, j’ai opter pour la salade au canard (salade, foie-​gras, gésier, lardons et croûtons) qui était bonne. Mes deux accompagnantes, quant à elles avaient choisie les croquettes de crevettes et un burger qui leur ont également plu.

I love this place! Awesome vibe. Cool deco. Nice terrace. Happy service. € 2 for a 25cl pol beer. Nice burgers.

Un endroit agréable pour trouver une ambiance relax. Une carte assez intéressante avec des suggestions du jour. Les frites sont bonnes. La viande est parfaitement cuite comme demandé. Le pain est moelleux et les légumes sont frais. Pas trop d huile. La qualité donne une sensation de manger sain même en mangeant un burger! Le goût est au rendez-​vous. Possibilité de manger et boire un verre de soft pour moins de 18 €. Rapport qualité prix très bon. Un des meilleurs de Bruxelles selon moi. En plus, les «tartines» sont superbes et fraîches. Les assiettes sont garnies de manière gourmande.

Recommended by our b&b and did not disappoint. Place is adorable and the menu is thankfully presented in a few languages. We would have sat outside if it weren’t raining off and on. When we arrived at about 6:30 it was quiet, but within the hour they were full. There is an upstairs eating area too. I think many had reservations.
Shared a½ bottle of red wine and We ordered the croquettes (–beignets on the menu) which were delicious.
I ordered fish burger and he had the classic. We both loved our food and the the frites were in a cute pot on the plate and very good.
We finished with crème brule which took forever to come and was just okay. That would be my only complaint, if you can call it that.
Our waiter struggled with English a bit (he’s from New Caledonia, interestingly), but was really nice as were all the servers.

We were looking for a restaurant near the train station, and found this little charming restaurant on a square by a fountain.
Staff was friendly and polite.
I tried the burger Akira, which I really liked — sauce was delicious.
I definitely recommend the speculoos ice cream!

Great location, good service, simple food. Had the veggie burger. It was good but nothing special. I don’t think I’d make a special visit but would stop by if I’m walking around in the area.

This place was a-​mazing! It’s a very quaint spot located in stones throw of the Rouppefontein. The food was both gourmet and deli style. I had Cotes d’agneau au romarin croquettes de pommes de terre (lamb chops with fried potatos and herb garden vegetables). The portions were very sizable and the price was fair. My partner ordered a classic burger with fries. I highly recommend.

J’ai eu l’occasion d’aller au Houtsiplou (que j’arrive pas à prononcer correctement deux fois de suite) lors d’un petit week-​end bruxellois. Je remercie d’ailleurs la communauté Unilocal qui m’a recommandé ce resto tout coloré à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur.
Bön, je lui met 4 étoiles mais il y a clairement eu un petit souci avec la personne qui fait l’accueil dans ce resto, le reste du personnel était chaleureux et souriant.
J’ai appelé une heure avant pour réserver et on m’a dit qu’il n’y avait pas besoin, au pire 10min d’attente… Lorsque nous arrivons, la même personne me dit que c’est complet et en levant les yeux en l’air que ça né sert à rien d’attendre. Contrarié, je décide quand même d’attendre… Une petit demi-​heure plus tard, le patron (super sympa) ouvre la porte pour voir combien de personnes attendaient dehors, moment où notre ami de l’accueil lui dit «tu peux les faire rentrer les deux-​là», façon très agréable de nous désigner.
A partir de là, tout a été aux petits oignons, le service était top, le serveur souriant et plein d’humour et bien sur de bon conseil pour les bières locales, en l’occurrence la faro que je né connaissais pas.
Côté assiette, j’ai pris des croquettes de crevettes en plat, une spécialité belge que je voulais tester. C’est une sorte de bâtonnet pané avec de la crevette et de la crème à l’intérieur. Accompagnées de frites et de salades, c’était parfait pour mon appétit du soir.
Malgrè un début un peu spécial, j’ai apprécié mon passage au Houtspilou euh au Houtsiplou.

Had a great meal with a few well chosen beers. The specials that night were the carbonnade au civet de marcassin (wild boar stew) and fennel soup. Both were excellent. The wait staff was friendly and very accommodating when we arrived with a 22 month old.

I had this place bookmarked for a while to visit and finally got around to it when my boyfriend and I had a taste for burgers but wanted to try a place we haven’t been to before.
I initially thought it looked like a cool place to check out based on reviews where it served more traditional Belgian food but with good vegetarian choices. When I saw the burgers they offered I knew it was time to finally go there!
First off, I love that they place is typical Belgian at the heart but with a hipster twist! They offer a nice variety of Belgian dishes but with enough vegetarian and other options to make even the pickiest of eaters happy! We didn’t order any appetizers as we thought they were a bit too pricey so we just got a main course instead (they also provide free bread and hummus so the appetizer was not missed at all!) I had a halloumi burger and my boyfriend the JCVD burger and we both DEVOURED ours! We also shared a tarte tatin, which was good but not perfect. They also have a decent selection of beers, not fantastic but enough so that you can find something to enjoy…
Atmosphere is 100% hipster and it draws a huge Flemish speaking crowd (I know there are a lot of students living in that area)…I love the murals they have on the ground floor, I hope I get to visit the first floor next time. Service is fine enough.
So good we are even looking to go back today (in all fairness we have friends visiting and to me this is the perfect Belgian resto for visitors).
Price is also reasonable, for 2 people ordering a total of 3 beers, 2 burgers and 1 dessert it came to about 55eur… not cheap but also not that bad.
One tip: RESERVE! We didn’t make a reservation and were lucky enough to get there early and when a table for 2 was free but all those after us without reservations had to wait sometimes a decent amount of time…

Excellent hamburgers and fries, salads, and veggie dishes. The mural in the wall is fully worth eating there. The terrace is just perfect as soon as the sun shows up in Brussels

Houtsiplou c’est pour moi un restaurant typiquement belge.
D’abord j’adore le nom, Houtsiplou, «Regarde si il pleut en wallon» ou village imaginaire, bref un symbole de notre surréalisme décalé à la belge.
Le restaurant est situé sur la Place Rouppe, dans un quartier que j’apprécie.
En ce qui concerne ce qui se trouve dans l’assiette, on est dans la cuisine de brasserie sans trop de prétention mais réussie. Modeste quoi qu’original en ce qui concerne certains plats, une brasserie qui sait tout de même se démarquer.
J’ai testé pour ma part le burger JCVD, super bon, bien consistant, accompagné de délicieuses frites coupées à la main (pas de frites surgelées ici).
Un chouette restaurant à faire entre amis.

L’année 2015 commence mal :-(! Un avis salé pour un restaurant dont j’avais tellement entendu parler en bien. J’aurais pu mettre 3 étoiles mais j’ai été tellement déçu que 2 ça fera largement l’affaire pour cette fois. C’est souvent ça le problème avec les grosses attentes. On est plus vite déçu.
Le positif: la déco très sympa. De ce côté là, rien à redire, ça parle belge, c’est agréable à regarder ! La carte en 4 langues est aussi bien foutue. Le service est ok, pas à se plaindre non plus à ce niveau là. Des bières choisies, un endroit fait pour les groupes et les grosses sorties.
Le négatif: au premier étage, c’est très très bruyant. J’ai l’impression que la musique né passait qu’au RDC et pas à l’étage, dommage. MAIS le gros problème reste la qualité du burger. Sorry mais à ce niveau là, je suis masta exigent. Pour un établissement qui met le burger au centre de son menu, faut assurer et my god, je n’en reviens toujours pas. J’ai lu quasi tous les commentaires précédents, et j’ai l’impression qu’avant c’était mieux même si je né peux pas le confirmer (changement de chef ou je né sais pas…).
J’ai pris un «Super Chouette» (comprenez burger viande de boeuf + sauce au poivre + reblochon). La cata… Sauce au poivre sans réelle saveur, goût beaucoup trop léger. La viande grisâtre, cartonneuse, trop cuite. Pour les frites, c’était le contraire, pas assez passé de temps dans la friteuse. Des erreurs qui né pardonnent pas.
Nous étions deux ce soir là à partager exactement le même avis. J’y repasserai sans doute un jour en espérant que ma déception soit évacuée par une bonne surprise.

I love this funky spot. Everything about it felt easy and uncomplicated. Casual food done well in a casual atmosphere. Extra points for the fun mural covering one entire wall.
No, they don’t have dozens of beers on their menu, but they have a small handful of well-​chosen selections. The service wasn’t «above & beyond» but friendly enough. They didn’t ask if I wanted another beer when my glass emptied, but were quick enough to bring another when I asked, so no particular complaints there.
We ordered the mussels and the burger with bacon & cheese. Both dishes were very good. The mussels were delicious, but only come in one size… 1 kg for € 18.99, which is a good value but portion-​wise, it’s a LOT for a single serving. I gave it my most valiant effort but only made it half-​way through before tapping out.
The handy central location is great too. I’d definitely recommend this place.

Chouette découverte de ce resto! On m’en avait déjà parlé mais je n’ai jamais osé y aller!
Donc si vous voulez manger un gros burger a bon prix et bon goût, allez y! On y trouve des saveurs un peu plus originales que d’habitude (le mien était au canard et foie gras, vraiment très bon!). Le service y est rapide en plus et le verre de vin a 3 € est un très grand verre bien rempli!
Petit plus aussi pour la deco des toilettes (on peut y tagguer le mur à la craie :))
Seul point négatif: ils n’acceptent pas ban contact!

Hamburgers were large and tasty, frites were so so and the service odd, but the locations view is great.

Prior to our trip to Brussels, I read a positive blog post touting the amazing burgers at Houtsiplou. On learning that it was one short block away from the flat we were staying at, it became a «must do». We visited for lunch twice and both times sat outside to enjoy the lovely weather Brussels was having, so I can’t speak to the interior of the restaurant. The staff often seemed slightly aloof at first, but had a solid enough grasp of English that I didn’t need to struggle with my weak knowledge of French.
The speciality of the house is their selection of burgers, though they also offer a selection of tartines, pasta and Belgian specialities. Portions here are extremely plentiful. On our first visit, I had the Josephine burger which is freshly ground duck breast topped with foie gras and a pepper sauce. It was as rich and delicious as it sounds, but most definitely a knife and fork burger. My husband had the Lola burger and found it to be meaty and juicy and also a knife and fork burger. Also, their frites were some of my favorite in all of Belgium. More steak fry-​type than most friteries we visited, the frites were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
On our return I opted for the moules frites and my husband had the steak Americain. The mussels were plentiful and fresh, although I did have better at Nordzee. The steak Americain, however, was amazing. Freshly chopped beef (raw) prepared with the perfect blend of seasonings, capers, onions and a raw egg and served with Worchester sauce and hot sauce to perfect your own blend of taste. A Belgian speciality done very well!
Overall I would recommend Houtsiplou to anyone looking for a delicious, hearty and casual meal outside of central Brussels.

Cute place with big and tasty burgers. Food is served with fresh hummus and bread. They typically serve bottled water at most places in London so be specific about asking for tap water if don’t want to be charged.

I had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes, Salad, Potatoes with squash and zucchini.
A fresh salad was rare on this trip so it was a nice surprise.
T had the Linguine carbonara and I know she would have it again.
We visited the location on a Monday evening around 8pm. We were immediately seated upstairs. It was probably the best meal I ate during the entire visit.
The décor very eclectic.

Ya know, I don’t expect the waitstaff to bend over backwards or anything, but I do expect them to have at least a basic idea of what’s on the menu, and unfortunately we really got off on the wrong foot with our server.
She was pretty cold to begin with and there was a distinct decline that followed my attempt to order some sustenance.
I knew as soon as I saw the chalkboard sign outside advertising their mussels that that’s what I’d be getting, and seeing the mussels get top billing, front and center on their menu only reinforced that.
When it came time to order, I was torn between which sauce option to get with the mussels (choice of marinara, garlic, or white wine) so I asked our server if she had a recommendation. Her response included an annoyed huff while she said (and I quote), «I don’t know.» Uhmmmm… okay. Isn’t it her job to know? Plus, it seems like this menu item is something Houtsiplou is really trying to highlight, so why the cold shoulder on the dinner deets?
I worked in restaurants for over a decade and it was always clear that we needed to know the ins and outs of the menu, and at the very least be able to describe them, despite our dietary restrictions. Makes sense, right? But apparently that’s not a thing here, though.
So I tried to pry some more info out of our server because if I’m spending nearly $ 30 on mussels, I want them to be the best they can be and to make the right sauce choice for me. I asked if there was a traditional way to get order them or a way that’s the most popular. Her answer: «Get whatever you think you want.» Again, not helpful beyond letting me know I should just give up on trying to get a recommendation. I went with the white wine sauce because at this point I felt like I needed a drink as well.
My dining partner got their veggie burger, which tasted exactly like what I remember the burgers from Fuddruckers tasting like (only these were veggie). It was nothing mind-​blowing, but it was better than i was expecting and a really tasty trip down memory lane.
My mussels, on the other hand, were pretty forgettable as far as flavor goes. The presentation was gorgeous, it came with fries in the cutest little pot, and there was certainly no shortage in the serving-​size department, but I was just expecting more. When we took the lid off the pot of mussels I was expecting some big, hearty smells steaming up in my general direction but it fell flat. I think chose incorrectly with the rather bland and flavorless white wine sauce. It might as well have been cloudy water.
Of course, I still ate every bit of it, but it just didn’t live up to all the hype of traditional Belgian mussels.
Despite the poor service and meh mussels, I still think Houtsiplou deserves 4 stars. Their menu and the environment is colorful and varied and seemed a different in a good and much-​needed way from many of the other Belgian brasseries we’d checked out.
Also, they serve this incredibly delicious (and complimentary) bread to your table and their unique and delightful soup selection leads me to believe that I just chose wrong with my white wine mussels and that they absolutely have better things to offer… now, just to work on offering those items in a better informed manner.

Das ist nett. Auf Stylisch und Hipster gemacht und dennoch mit Niveau. Preise sind wirklich human. Man bekommt für unter 15EUR Hauptspeisen und die sind wirklich groß.
Der Burger ist sehr groß aber vielleicht oft ein wenig zu durch. Mehr medium sollte man bei der Bestellung direkt mit angeben.
Ich hatte ein Steak, das wirklich gut war. Aber auch hier, weniger Zeit auf der Platte ist da mehr — mehr Genuss.
Pommes dazu waren genial! Die haben wirklich Spaß gemacht.
Ambiente ist gepflegt hip. Wer nach 19Uhr kommt, muss damit rechnen vor der Tür warten zu müssen. Im Winter eher unpraktisch. Daher mein Tipp, entweder reservieren oder vor 19Uhr aufkreuzen.
