Very nice place, very friendly Irish Chief who takes care of all clients. Brunch was tasty — full Irish and Botanist — absolutely delicious with super juice. Un endroit très sympa, le personnel cool avec un chef irlandais adorable. Brunch très bon– nous avons pris: full Irish et Botanist avec un superjuice.

Come for the food but don’t stay for the atmosphere. This is a very simple café(if a little daggy) serving up restaurant quality food. The chefs take pride in the menu, making the most of in-season produce and personally delivering your fancy brunch to your table. There’s a bit of an Irish focus: think home baked soda bread and big breakfasts complete with fried potatoes and blood sausage. A few tables ordered and ravaged down theses Irish bad boys. I got the feeling they come here every Sunday for a tried-and-tested morning after cure. Bottom line: Twenty 8 Acres is more ‘epic hangover brunch’ than ‘ladies who lunch’.

Never in my travels have I seen such an untidy and disorganised kitchen. Coupled with rude staff, that you have to fix a gaze on before you even think about getting served; made up for a pretty poor experience… Even if it was for a coffee and a brownie. I’d hazard a wild guess here and say that the only thing they’re doing right is the food(despite the comment above). From the looks of it, the portions are generous and every empty plate I saw on the unoccupied tables looked as if it had been licked clean. Best advice here would be to proceed with caution.

I had to farewell the lads last month when I attended my last lectures at Sydney University(insert both happy and sad emoticons here). This café is attached to an Adina hotel a block or two from the Uni. Honestly, you couldn’t get much more convenient. While attending lectures, I was here for breki every morning. I tried most things on the menu(skipping things that involved black pudding or blood sausages or bacon) and everything was great. I did always come back to the smashed avocado, but subbed in the freshly baked soda bread(they make their own). This dish is nirvana. It’s the perfect blend of flavours. You’d think they would compete with each other, but weirdly, they don’t. So you have the soda bread and smashed avo. Then that’s topped with roast tomato halves, perfectly poached eggs and rocket. Then that’s topped with a balsamic glaze and dribbled with pesto, then finished with toasted pepitas. Oh. My. God. It’s way too much food and I felt guilty whenever I left food on the plate(a hangover from my depression-era parents). The lads humoured me my giving me a smaller serve when I remembered to ask. While coffee is rarely an afterthought for me, it took back seat to the food and I tried to enjoy it before the food arrived and obliterated all memory of it. The coffee was very good, as was the dirty chai. They serve lunch and opened for dinner on Friday nights for awhile but I never made it there for alternate meals. It attracts hotel guests and locals alike, often with their dogs in the back patio area on the weekends, which somehow made me feel a bit less homesick. Always well-staffed, good service with chilled out music. I’ll miss you guys!

In all my years of traveling, this place had THE best. Food. EVER. The place is a secluded in what seems to be a fairly residential area, but it was super easy to find with the help of a handy dandy smartphone… Plus the huge sign screaming«THISWAY» helped a lot. There was no wait, which was extremely surprising, given the fact that the food was SOGOOD. I swear, best meal of my life, best thing I ever ate, you name it. After being greeted by the friendly waiter and the owner-chefs, my boyfriend and I both opted for the daily specials with the bruschetta appetizer. Mine was smoked salmon with a side of salad and toast; my boyfriend’s was a polish sausage burger. So. Good. Perfectly fresh flavours, perfectly juicy burger. Oh, and did I mention they also squeeze fresh juice? Better than some juice bars back home in SF, to be honest. The price was a steal for the quality of the food.(I have, unfortunately, paid more for a mediocre meal at other«highly recommended» restaurants during my time in Sydney. This place puts them all to shame.) Tldr;; Food so good, I would fly back to Sydney for it. You HAVE to go.

If you like food you need to find this little gem attached to the side of the Adina Apartment Hotel at the back of Sydney Uni. This tiny café is a great spot for a quiet coffee and some really awesome food. The owner/chef is amazing, his food exquisite. There’s constantly changing daily specials as well as lunch items and if you ask nicely you might be able to get all day breakfast. They bake their own breads and brownies and the food feels like you’re getting a fancy home cooked meal. I went there a couple of times and ordered a host of different things. Their BLEAT(Bacon, Lettuce, Egg, Avocado and Tomato) was huge and delicious. Get it with a side of fat and salty hand cut chips. One daily special was a Not-So Sloppy Joe with perfectly braised beef with a hint chilli, homemade beans and a runny egg. Another was Crispy Pork Belly on Sweet and Sour Vegetables. That was the highlight of the meals I had there. I can’t even begin to describe how delicious it was. You’ll just have to go and check it out yourself.

Tried the signature dish, it did not disappoint. Massive serve of potatoes, salmon was most fantastic. Will definitely be coming again to try the rest of the menu.

Coming in from overseas heavily jet-lagged, I ordered a simple poached egg & toast from the co owner, not having the presence of mind to study the menu. I asked for his toast recommendation(thankfully the only option) and he suggested Irish soda bread, saying it was healthy(he’s Irish). The toast, as everything else with this meal far exceeded my expectations. It was moist and tasted heavenly with a bit of butter. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the herbs & salad complemented the flavors. The setting was urban cottage. The service was tops, friendly without being fawning. Sadly this gem isn’t open for dinner, but that’s OK — better to focus on quality before quantity. I’ll be back, probably every morning of my stay at the adjacent Adina hotel!

Twenty 8 acres is a relatively new place located in the backstreets of Redfern behind the University of Sydney. It’s a great quiet spot for good coffee and has a friendly culture and staff who actively seek for your comfort. The owner took the effort to remember my name and was open to receiving feedback. The Eggs Benedict was also particularly good on a toasted brioche.
