This place is actually a joke. Have no coconut or saffron rice yet it is on their menu. Waiters don’t understand what you are saying and have terrible service. This place is terrible value for money

It was as expected. It’s a tourist location that picks up the overflow from the better places that are booked out. We had a good view of the fireworks so it was a good night out. I would say this place is a safe backup plan.

Interesting meals, passable service. Nothing spectacular, but very standard Thai fare — probably not worth the price tag though.

The Thai Foon blew me off course and drowned me under a sea of mediocrity and a torrent of timewasting. The place was under staffed. Half of us walked in at bang on 12, and the place still wasn’t open. The waitress asked us how many we had for lunch(we had a table booked for 11) and she proceeded to make it up. Within 10 – 15 minutes the balance of our crew rocked up and we were ready to go. We ordered a plethora of entrees: money bags, duck pancakes, sauté chicken skewers, dumplings, and vege tempura. Sadly the duck pancakes were the worst, they were stone cold(is that normal?) and soggy instead of a warm, delightful parcel. The vege tempura had such thick batter that you couldn’t even appreciate the vegetables. For main everyone had different dishes, and unfortunately they all came out at different times. There were only 4 tables. Our 11, a 4, and a couple of 2s. This is lunch time. I’m ok with the waitress bringing them out two-by-two, but it wasn’t that. It was two. Followed by a distinct wait, followed by two, followed by another distinct wait. This is lunch time. This is Darling Harbour. This is expensive. I expect some sort of chaotic rush, and multiple waitresses bringing dishes out. I don’t expect one waitress. I think perhaps this place is a victim of its own location. It’s forced to be expensive and by doing that it cannot cover its bases by hiring staff to make it soar. So instead it plummets, into an abyss of amateurish Thai, in a city that has many amazing alternatives. I had the Crying Tiger. I called it Tiger Cry, and the waitress thought it prudent to correct me. Well, sadly it was one of the worst renditions of this dish I have ever had. The taste itself was fine and it looked appetising enough, but the beef was not tender, was not rare and was over-charred. It was also far too thin, which was possibly the main reason for it being over-cooked. Until they get the dish right, I will continue to call it Tiger Cry(as Satasia, whose version is perhaps the best I’ve ever had, dubs it). Everyone else seemed sated, but no one at the table raved about the food. When you are paying 3 times the price of what one can get a short walk over Pyrmont bridge into the actual City, you really have to wonder why you would ever venture into this place again. If the price was a tenner, at lunchtime, and we’d gotten the same I’d have opted for a 2 – 3 star rating, but seriously, $ 30 mains and they aren’t impeccable, and the service is slow? Soz, that’s a 1. Avoid the tourist trap! P. S. What is the dealio with the water glasses. I drink scotch and can appreciate a good swirl but even these are beyond ridiculous.

Pretty good. Couple it with the fireworks display every other sat night to create some magic.

I’m from the States, my family was vacationing in Australia. We found ourselves in this shopping mall and Thai food sounded great. We eat at great Thai restaurants in the States(Los Angeles area) regularly and have been to Thailand numerous times. We love Thai food. The location of Thai Foon is terrific with a great patio overlooking Darling Harbor. The menu is large and varied, the service was slow and erratic, but the food was terrific. The duck curry was fantastic and my whole family was very impressed by the quality of food and flavor at Thai Foon. The reviews here on Unilocal for Thai Foon are not all that great. I know Australia is much closer to Thailand than the States, you do have a lot of Thai restaurants to choose from in Sydney alone. I don’t know if we ate on a good night or if our tastebuds expect something different than an Australian, but to us every dish was outstanding! I never expect stellar service at any restaurant serving any Asian cuisine… this review is for the food alone! We ate– Duck Curry– I now order duck curry in the States just to compare Pad See Ew– Always a good judge of a Thai restaurant Pad Thai– We had a virgin Thai eater with us… gotta order Pad Thai. Pepper Shrimp with noodles– One of my wife’s favorite Asian shrimp dishes she’s ever had, suggested by the waiter. Prices were reasonable, drinks took forever to arrive, like I said the service was not great. I would eat here again just for the food and no expectations for quality service.

Enjoyed our meals. Perfect location and the service was good. The variety on offer was your typical Thai offerings. Would recommend

Anywhere in Sydney I look, I can find at least one Thai restaurant. Which is good for me as it’s my new favourite cuisine. So when my friend suggested we meet at Thai Foon I was excited. There is a massive choice of Vegetarian dishes — entrees and main! I wish they offered a platter as I wanted to try many dishes at once. However, I had to chose only a couple and settled for the spring rolls and Thai noodles. The food was pretty good too. No fishy taste and quite authentic I think. I probably should have tried something new and different. But chose to order the usual to use as a basis for comparison. I am quite happy with the veg food here and cannot wait to try the tom yum soup and panang curry next time.

Sydneysiders are pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to asian cuisine, so Thai Foon should probably up its game. I can see how this place gets away with resting on its laurels. The setting boasts spectacular Darling Harbour views and a steady stream of tourists looking for a feed. That explains the prices. The food itself is rather lacklustre. The portions are small(particularly for the prices) and the flavours are uninspired. The green chicken curry was at least good, comfort food, but worth $ 20? Definitely not. The service could do with a bit of a makeover as well. Even with a particularly empty restaurant, the staff seemed hurried and harried. An altogether unsatisfying dining experience. I’d suggest walking the extra few minutes to China Town instead.

Thai Foon offers a distinctive type of Thai food that is not too spicy or overwhelming. With its delectably balanced flavour, everyone is sure to find something pleasing. They usually serve the food straight from the searing fire so make sure you take the time to cool your food a bit(you don’t want a burnt tongue lisp for the rest of the night!). Their Thai Prawn Crackers are as crunchy as it gets, so make sure to try them if you dine here. Aside from being reasonably priced, the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, you couldn’t ask better service! This is one restaurant you should definitely try. You might just like it as much as me!
