Great little place for ramen in World Square, up there with Gumshara in my opinion. Portions are a good size(some ramen places tend to have portions that are too large), the broth is tasty, the noodles are just right in terms of texture and size, the service is speedy and efficient, and prices are reasonable. They also seem to get a lot of Japanese customers, which is always a good sign that the ramen is of top quality.

I frequent many Japanese ramen restaurants in Sydney and this is in my top 5. Noodles are nice and different to the garden variety from other places. Soup is tasty. Very affordable prices and the size is just right for the average adult(they have an up size option if you want more). I recommend.

Ordered Rich Zundo Original(Regular), and I did not finishe it, not because of the size but the taste. The soup is thick but lack of flavour and aroma, below average. The ramen itself is the worst I had in Sydney. There is too much baking soda(common additive for ramen) in the noodles, which makes the ramen way too firm, and I can literally taste it! Gumshara is definitely a better bet for thick tonkotsu ramen.

This was great! Went out in a limb with the anchovie broth and was rewarded. Perfect ramen texture, tender strips of pork, the perfect egg and lovely authentic Japanese fast good surroundings. Well priced for the quality. ***late addition– i got very sick from this meal later that night. So be warned***

Been craving ramen for a while now and was eyeing this place after looking at all the pictures of the Zundo Black ramen. I had debated whether or not Ajisen Ramen around the corner was an option however settled on this place. As I was going to the movies at Event Cinemas, this was the perfect place to have a quick bite. I must say I was kind of disappointed. I thought I would be blown away by the taste and flavour however I wasn’t. I was ready for something super super tasty and it was«ok». Although the broth was thick, I had to add chilli flakes to give the soup flavour. Not sure what happened to the stock but my dining partner who had the lightly flavoured one had the better ramen dish out of us both! Menya and Ippudo gets my vote on ramen unfortunately on this ramen hunting experience.

Good not great. Had some chunks in the ramen. Broth not quite as thick as other places as well. Chicken karaage ramen.

Located in the World Square Centre, perfect central location and separate tables available for a casual Japanese meal. LIGHTRAMENORIGINAL $ 11.90 Classic noodle dish with a light broth which is a mixture of chicken and pork as opposed to the Rich option which is pure pork. It’s up to personal taste but if you’re a ramen beginner start with the light version :). The were noodles cooked perfectly and the only slice of pork in the bowl just melts in your mouth, no better feeling than soft pork belly fat dissolving as you chew the meaty part. Overall it’s good and hits the spot on a winter night. TSUKEMENORIGINAL $ 12.90 Ippudo had a tsukemen special, but here it’s available all-year round. The concept of this dish is to dip your noodles in the concentrated broth for flavour. It’s great if you’re not feeling like soup and impatient as you do not have to let the noodles cool down. Over here you even have the option to get the noodles hot or cold unlike Ippudo which was cold only. The noodles are thicker but not as thick as udon noodles. The texture of the noodles is great, just the right amount of chewiness. The meat isn’t mince pork but it’s more like chunky bits of pork which is great considering the price. Conclusion The main selling point is the tsukemen and the variety of combinations will please almost every palette including spiciness. Overall Ramen Zundo offers even better quality and selection than Menya at a similar price point and finally there is no communal table sharing at Zundo which gives them bonus points for me. @thesydneynoob

Unilocalers have said it all. This ramen joint is definitely worth a try. The broth, as mentioned by Khoi, is not as tick as Gumshara but very flavorful, The ramen itself is at the right consistency, not too soggy, just right. My only complaint is that the seats are very close to one another but once again the shop itself is pretty small, so squeezing as many tables in there makes sense(or not). TIPS: There are two sizes(small and regular) available for ramen.

I dropped by Ramen Zundo to get some dinner takeaway. I’d heard awesome things about it and and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was easy to get to, tucked inside World Square. Now, I’m one of those people who can’t have ONLY ramen. I don’t think there’s enough stuff in it for me. I don’t consider actual noodles as real food, so I always order something on the side, like gyoza or karaage with my ramen, otherwise it’s just a couple strips of meat and some veggies. The nice thing about this is that I was able to order a smaller size, which is $ 1.20 less, so I was able to get less noodles, which I then topped up by ordering their karaage. Less noodles, more meat = win for Mela. I ordered the Zundo Red, which is a tonkotsu soup with spicy chilli oil. My takeaway took a couple of minutes. Once I got home, I saw that the broth had congealed a bit(it’s a pork bone broth, after all) which I gladly scooped up and mixed back in. Hehe. It was really tasty — filled the room with a delicious aroma. The karaage was good, but not great. The ramen was a definite standout.

Sydney has been swallowed up in Ramen fever the past 18 months or so and after trying out all the new joints I have decided that Zundo will remain my favourite. It is a small 30 seat place in the fast food alley of World Square and has quickly become a popular place for those in the know when it comes to Ramen. They serve other dishes as well but honestly, I have not been able to go past the Ramen each time I have visited in the past year. They also specialise in Tonkotsu broth which is less thick(colagen) than Gumshara but a little more heavy that Ippudo. The broth is on the salty side but not overly so but I guess you can help wash it down with the complimentary cups of self serve water near the entrance. I now religiously order the Zundo black which is the one with the extra garlic. The piping hot bowl of Ramen comes with some tender pork strips, bamboo, sprouts, cabbage and a few sheets of seaweed. The noodles are cooked al dente and are firm and chewy. Prices are reasonable, many dollars less than Ippudo but comparable to Gumshara. However it is a much more refined eating space compared to the chaos of Eating World. They have a loyalty program but I keep forgetting my card so I can’t tell you the value of the freebie.

One of the newer ramen joints in Sydney, Ramen Zundo had to compete with some big names right out of the box. Do they? For the most part I would say yes. They definitely bring a different feel/taste to ramen compared to your local standards. I’ve tried several of the variations of ramen, but regardless I would get the Mount Chashu. The pork is pretty amazing here at Zundo. Big portions and super duper savory. The soup is nothing special, but compliments the rest of the parts of the dish. If you’re in the area then give it a shot. This place seems to be a good fall back for my friends and I.

This ramen joint at World Square is an OK place to eat. We tried Zundo White and Zundo Black and both were good. I found that their ramens are salty, which I like, but a little bit too oily.

I had lunch the black garlic ramen for lunch the other day… Yum! It wasn’t in the same league as Gumshara, but pretty tasty nonetheless. The staff are lovely.

I ordered the tonkotsu ramen ‘black’(ie with garlic) and was pretty unimpressed. The broth was ridiculously salty and had very little pork flavour to it. I specifically asked for no bean sprouts when I ordered, and the guy who took my order acknowledged my request, but when my bowl came out it was teeming with bean sprouts. The only redeeming feature of the dish was the above-average chashu. Service was OK.

Going to ramen for a well overdue catch up with 2 uni friends sparked a bit of dejavu as one of the last times we caught up(many years ago) was at the same place, but when it was still a Thai restaurant. Zundo hasn’t changed much to the place. We sat in the same seats but this time looking at lanterns. FOOD 2 blacks and 1 white were ordered. White being the standard ramen and black with some garlic goodness. I must say I was a bit disappointed in the ramen. Pretty average to me. The soup just didn’t have enough oomph. I didn’t even need a mint after dinner to take away my garlic breath. Weak! SERVICE You order and pay at the counter before you sit. A bit awkward standing around at the front. Not sure how they would cope if there was a sudden influx of customers at once. Paying first also means they won’t be getting any tips. OVERALL Average ramen. Went to check it out after reading Howard C’s review. True to his 4 star rating I funnily enough ran into him at zundo that night. Maybe I should’ve ordered the cha shu one like he suggested.

Sydney has plenty of ramen shops already, so how does a new competitor fare? Ramen Zundo opened 3 weeks ago and I can safely say this has the BEST roast chashu in Sydney. Tucked in a laneway, the shop isn’t large and it’s actually on the intimate side without feeling crowded. Upon entering the hostess will give you a menu and ask you to place an order at the counter. Once you do, you can then seat yourself. Without asking, water will be brought to your table which was a huge plus in my book. After less than 5 minutes we received our food. Service was great, the only downsides are their English isn’t the greatest and the utensils could be better. Ramen Zundo offers three kinds of broth(or 6 if you get the Mount Chashu): White, Black, and Red. White is a traditional broth, Black is garlic based, and Red is spicy chili oil. The other three options are Tokyo Soy, Sea Salt(not available yet,) and Double Soup Soy which is a combination of chicken and pork broth. If you are a fan of the broth at Gumshara, you will enjoy the broth here. I ordered the Mount Chashu Red and It’s on the savoury side, but not nearly as savoury(read: salty.) The Red has a few chili flakes sprinkled about, but it wasn’t really spicy at all. The noodles are decent and don’t taste bland. The bean sprouts and seaweed were pretty good as well, but the cabbage was an odd touch to the ramen. The highlight of the ramen is the roast chashu. Damn this chashu is good!!! It’s cut into long strips, tender, and has a nice brown to it(the good kind of brown, not the bad kind.) A regular bowl gives you three strips while Mount Chashu gives you six. Don’t miss out on this chashu. Ramen Zundo won’t be taking any crowns(except for chashu) but it’s a welcome addition to Sydney’s ramen scene, I’ll be coming back to try their other offerings.
