The worst ramen I have. It is hard for me to finish it. The soup, meat and noodles are bad! Another Japanese restaurant Takara has better ramen indeed. And the price is cheaper as well!

Had the miso ramen noodles. The broth was thick and curry like. Spicy and great! Noodles were firm but tasted better noddles elsewhere. Overall enjoyed the meal

I’ve had the bbq pork and miso ramen. They’re so juicy! The thick soup is filled with flavour. Can’t get enough of this place. Always a must when I’m in Sydney

Not really good. Heard a lot about this place and even read the article about how they make the tonkotsu broth by boiling for 12 hrs a day and so on. So i decided to try, excited and really hoping for a great tonkotsu broth. But I was disappointed after trying it. It’s just too thick and sometimes bitter. I’ve seen lots of positive reviews about this place and people talk about its thick broth and that you get good value for the money you pay and etc etc etc but if you’d ask me, «Do you like it?». My answer is «No, i dont»

Lines the belly before a big night out to celebrate my birthday. Been craving this for weeks. I’ve been searching all over but they certainly don’t make ramen this thick or tasty in Singapore! #latergram #gumshara #ramen #tomatotonkotsu #needmyvegies

Fan of tonkotsu ramen? Gumshara has the thickest, densest soup of anywhere I’ve been(including countless places around Japan). If you’re new to this cuisine, start out with something lighter before working your way to the heavy stuff.

Be careful what you order. The tonkotsu ramen broth is almost gelatinous, it’s so thick. I did see other styles of ramen on their menu and they do specify some as thick broth so caveat emptor — BUYERBEWARE. If you order the wrong dish, it could be very hard to finish because it will be very rich. It’s a lot more expensive than I remember but I haven’t eaten here for 4 years. I’m not sure if tonkotsu ramen is meant to come with egg. I had to order mine separately.

they definitely need their own store. almost 1⁄3 of the diners in the food court were eating ramen from Gumshara. I tried the BBQ pork ramen noodle $ 14 and pork sparerib noodles $ 15.50. Prices are a bit higher than for your average ramen but considering that the broth is so thick and the quantity given its worth it. There was plenty of BBQ pork in my ramen and more than enough noodles to fill me up. The pork sparerib was tender and falling off the bone. One point would be, bring a bottle of water with you, you will definitely need it.

Eeesh. After reading so many positive reviews, I was really excited to give this place a go. We first struggled with finding it, and then. Well. For me, the broth was way too thick and fatty. I understand that this might be a style they go for, but I wish I realised before I ordered. I also wish I noticed the tiny note saying if the broth is too thick for you, we can fix it up! That could possibly improve my experience. Both boyfriend and I struggled with finishing our bowls. My egg was goey inside, but also too runny on the white part. I couldn’t make myself to eat a half raw white. I’m much more used to not so thick broth though. It was quite flavourful, but it just didn’t work for me. I think we also got there during rush hour, as we had to wait quite a while for our portions. Overall, I would probably give them another go, but definitely would ask for thinning the broth up for me.

Definitely not great, pretty sub par. Its the thick style of ramen soup, but a thick layer of fat that congealed almost instantly took away from the ramen. Fairly authentic ‘street’ style. Hidden in the food court, far corner for any other Unilocalers!

We went to Gumshara with high expectations but were greatly disappointed. I ordered the tonkatau pork ramen and found the broth too rich for my liking. They also forgot one crucial ingredient — THENORI! How could a ramen place forget Nori?! The highlight of the meal were the dumplings which were perfectly pan fried but still juicy. Although I’d much rather have the chicken wings from the Chinese store right beside Gumshara.

Came here on recommendation of a friend. This place is located in the food court with lots of other Asian food. I would say gumshara is the most popular stand out of all. Overall, the Broth was a bit heavy, the noodle was thick, and nori was missing!!! Taste was okay… Would I come back? Not sure, maybe?!?

If you’re a tonkotsu ramen addict like I am and are visiting Sydney(or just flexing your new-found tonkotsu muscle), Gumshara should be one of your default destinations. I consider Gumshara the standard bearer in the Sydney tonkotsu scene. That broth is as thick as the London fog. Despite its fame, service is still relatively quick. Don’t be put off by the slightly interesting food court, in fact I argue that adds to the atmosphere. You can’t get the tonkotsu between 3−5pm as they re-cook the broth.

Japanese Ramen is the perfect endeavour on a wet and windy winter night. Gumshara has quite the reputation among food bloggers so I figured I would check it out after a long week at work. It’s not near my work or my home so going all the way into the city especially for it raised my expectations for it to the sky. It’s a small counter in one of the food courts in China town and offers simple cafeteria style seating. You got to line up to order. Took about 5 minutes to order and waited another 10 minutes for the food. Menu is simple and they offer about 10 different selections. The lady on the counter was very nice too and happy to answer any questions about the menu. Unusual to get a smiley lady on the counter of a food court. I decided to order Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen Soup with a soft boiled egg and a side of Chilli Pickled Cabbage. They offer take away so I decided I would opt for that and it’s a good option if you want Ramen for lunch the next day. The soup was a very thick soup and was really delicious and rich. The noodles were really good and mixed well in the thick broth. The broth is prepared all from bone marrow so no powders or starched here. Great cheap meal coming under $ 15. Got to say as well the cabbage was exceptional too. Really loved it so spicy and tasty. Went really well as a side dish. Only thing about the food I was disappointed with was the fact they left out my egg :(. Forgotten about somewhere and didn’t notice until I got home. Disappointing because all the reviews raved about it. But oh well, it happens. I will go back to try a few other options from the menu in this surprising food counter in china town. Very very good. :)

I did not enjoy my bowl of noodles at all. For the record, I ordered the Tonkatsu thick broth(#2) with a soft boil egg. I was expecting an aromatic and rich broth. That did not happen. It was more like soup thicken with starch powder to me. It didn’t even taste like Japanese ramen to me. The char su was fatty but lacks flavor and the same goes to the bamboo shoots and the soft boiled egg. The nori was soft and again, there is no flavor. It is very seldom I cannot finish a dish and I could not finish this one. I am so devastated I had to get a cruffin from Kingswood to console myself. -.-|||

Don’t expect anything fancy: a little shop inside the eating world harbour. You order your ramen, then you get a ticket and wait until it´s done(under 5 mins for us). Then you pick a seat anywhere in the mall/food court and eat it. I went with a friend and we both ordered the BBQ pork ramen. I’m not ramen maniac but I’d say it’s one of the best I have had. The soup was so thick it sincerely shocked me, specially after I finished the exquisite pork, ramen noodles ad spring onion. Maybe I’d even say it was too thick. Being used to other kinds of ramen it really hit me as a surprise and even if I liked the taste and I ended up leaving some of it. You have some sauces and toppings(not sure if topping is the best way to describe them, but well) to add to your bowl which seem quite authentic. Overall the bowl is enough to be content but not stuffed, and the price of a bowl tends to be under 15 $. The pork ramen is $ 14 which seems to be more than fair for the quality.

Beautiful. Exquisite. Delicious. Scrumptious. Slurpworthy. Nomworthy. I could go on and on about Gumshara Ramen; it has definitely claimed a special place in my heart. Hidden inside a bustling food court in Chinatown, I was skeptical when our Sydney-native friends told us that Gumshara serves up some of the best ramen in town. But, being the ramen connoisseurs that we are, we had to give them a try. Although it’s not the absolute best I’ve ever had, it certainly delivered above and beyond, and it tasted even better as a remedy for the cold, rainy, wintery day. The tonkotsu broth is thick and packed with tasty meaty flavor, just the way I like it. If you’re not a thick broth kind of person, there are options to order a less thick tonkotsu broth.(If you’re looking for an authentic experience, though, go for the thick!) You can also order the thick broth to try it, and they can water it down for you afterwards if you find that you don’t like it or think it’s too rich. I ordered the chashu ramen while the boyfriend ordered the extra large ramen that came with every single piece of meat that they had available packed into a bowl with ramen and thick tonkotsu broth(can you tell he loves meat?). Surprisingly, he managed to finish everything, and I devoured my bowl within minutes. The noodles were perfectly chewy, the soft-boiled egg had a beautiful half-cooked yolk, the chashu was tender, and the broth was bowl-licking good.

Very delicious ramen. My family and I all ordered the tonkotsu ramen with thick broth and found it to be very traditional. The broth was extremely thick. Both my brother and I loved it, but my mom had to get it watered down because she was not used to the viscosity. The broth was very tasty and we could tell it was made from real pork bones as there were a couple micro fragments of the bone and it’s marrow still in the broth. Made it all the more flavorful I guess. The ramen portion wasn’t too big, but I do eat a lot. The chashu pork was delicious and the noodles were standard with the option of getting thin noodles. I would recommend it to anyone in search of a unique ramen place, never really had anything like the broth before. Check it out! :)

Gumshara screams authenticity, the saying that great food comes from small kitchens applies to this place. Located in the Eating World food court, I would say it is hard to find if you’re a noob like me. RAMEN Tried the Tonkotsu and Fishy broth, these guys don’t let their flavours sneak up on you. They are bold and rich, a certain shock to the system for non-ramen enthusiasts. Great value meal: nicely cooked noodles and an egg is a necessary extra that just makes it so much better for me. The food court is a bit washed out but the ramen experience down there makes you overlook those details. GYOZA This is not the place to eat gyoza, so stick to their core offering. Texture was alright, the filing let it down. Conclusion Just a warning though, if you’re not a fan of strong flavours you might want to tell them to dilute it for you because the standard soup is mighty thick and strong. Great value ramen and N2 Gelato Extreme is just next door for dessert what’s not to like. @thesydneynoob

First visit and it was a success! Took us a few extra minutes to find it as we went down the wrong end of Dixon St, alas, finally walking through a very crowded food court we were starting to doubt ourselves if the place was even in here! … and then like magic as we veered down the bend there it was in all its glory! Tucked away in the corner amongst all various Chinese food outlets. Small queue, so we got our order in i had the Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen Noodle with soft boiled egg and my partner got the BBQ Pork Ramen and gyoza to share. Wow such a thick garlicy broth with oodles and oodles of noodles! Delicious! My partner and I both agreed that the flavour of the Garlic Tonkotsu was way better that the BBQ Pork. Gyoza was great too. Such a cheap and cheerful dinner option. I was indeed noodled out!
