BYO and a good wine shop 200m down the road. Hosting was good and the food was amazing. Had the chicken dumpling starter and my partner a spicy beef salad. Mains we had their signature goat curry and also the lamb curry. GOAT curry is amazing. Affordable delicious food. Nothing fancy but makes for«home food»

First off i’d like to say the private room on the top floor of this restaurant is super cute! I love how we all sit on pillows on the floor and really get the full feel of how people in Nepal eat on a day to day basis. We were a group of around 15 people for a farewell work party and it was pretty comfortable which i didn’t expect. This place is a BYOB place which I thought was a great way to have kept the price down but I was shocked with how small the dishes were. I didn’t like how the price didn’t match up to what I was expecting. The restaurant itself is actually pretty small, but close to central which is a great thing! This is a great place for sharing among friends and family as I stated before the plates were small and you are meant to order a few items. I didn’t enjoy how the washrooms were outside in the back outdoor area, and having to go up and down the stairs to get to them. The food had flavour but I wouldn’t say I was blown away. That being said I feel the only thing keeping this place standing is the atmosphere. Would I go back, sure if I was invited. but I rather try other places first.

Great little restaurant serving delicious Nepalese food. Good for large groups. Their banquet menu is very good and the best thing is they only charge $ 2 pp for corkage.

When I was a kid, my family’s apartment was a few doors down from a Nepalese family. I used to play with their kids a lot as our parents were both in PhD programs, so I went over to eat there frequently. It was a pretty different experience for me, as they never used utensils and ate with their hands, something I was definitely not accustomed to but appreciated. I recall eating a few delicious curry dishes, but since I was quite young I don’t recall much else. As a cuisine, Nepalese food is kind of a mix between Indian and Chinese food. I wasn’t expecting a full on Nepalese dining experience here, but it would have been cool if they went that way and I kind of wish they did. We all ordered individual plates and I went with the eggplant and potato. The roti/naan wasn’t too bad either, but I’ve had better. The food was OK, the sauces were great. The goat curry was spot on, everything else… meh. I don’t know if it’s because of how the food was prepared or whether it was the cuisine itself, but after eating I kind of wished I just went to an Indian place instead. It didn’t help that we spotted a cockroach crawling around next to our table.

Authentic Nepalese right here in Australia. It’s interesting to see the similarities with both Chinese and Indian food. Enjoyed it thoroughly from beginning to end!

Great example of real Nepalese food. The pricing is just right and the staff are friendly. Though we did get moved to accommodate for a busy night — not that we minded though. The vegetarian selection was varied enough to warrant a return to discover more.

Came here for the house specialty– the goat curry– which was very nice, and would come here again. Best finds of the evening were the fish curry which was awesome and the mango lassi which was different to any lassi i have ever tried– maybe that’s the Nepalese twist?

The service was great. This was our first time to Neaplese food, and the staff were ready to help with our selection. Food was good, except the mushroom curry that was ordinary. Would come here again.

Never had Napalese food before so I cannot judge its authenticity. However, vegetarian options are plenty, tasty and well cooked. Service is friendly and prices are very reasonable.

Things have gone down hill since my first visit a couple of years ago. Flavours are lacking and the portions small. Not to mention the inattentive staff. Disappointing.

Momos, goat curry, and yogurt chutney = a great dinner. The food is so flavorful and tasty. I love ethnic foods you don’t have everyday and Nepalese is a good one. It’s similar to Indian cuisine with other Asian influences, the Momos are similar to Chinese Dumplings. It’s fun to try different dishes that I’ve never had before. Nepalese Kitchen is a really cute, homey atmosphere that makes you feel welcome.

I’ll always have a soft spot for the Nepalese Kitchen as it is one of the first restaurants I visited when I first arrived in Sydney. I was with a group and we took a chance on a Saturday night at about 9pm. Well, it was packed and by some minor miracle we got a table. The experience was awesome, because we didn’t expect such a wonderful dinner. The food was delicious and authentic. I have eaten Nepalese before and this was as good as any. The staff were lovely and it didn’t matter that it was a hustle bustle affair. It kind of made sense. Some places just work. This is one of them. I’ll be back for sure.

I feel like I’m always hearing people give the Nepalese Kitchen bad wrap, usually through alleged rumours of food poisoning. My experiences there have been quite the opposite, full of delicious, interesting food on top of warm service and buzzing ambience. A friend’s birthday dinner was booked for the restaurant’s top floor group dining room. The bohemian set-up welcomed our thirteen-strong crew with colourful floor cushions and low-lying dinner tables that made for an oh-so authentic Himalayan dinner party. Dishes are designed to share and everything arrived in a timely manner from the kitchen. Most memorable was their renowned goat curry, a rich and much thicker style than I’ve tried before at Indian restaurants made with tomatoes and plenty of dried, ground spices. For vegos out there, the eggplant and potato curry was a garlicky good dish. This savoury banquet was followed by individually plated, refreshing mango kulfis and tea. It’s BYO and everything was pretty cheap — most mains are around $ 15 — which is great value for such yummy and plentiful food.

The Nepalese Kitchen on Crown Street in Surry Hills is one of the few places around town that house the Nepalese cuisine. Funnily enough. It’s not the biggest place and is quite popular so you may need to book in advance. If you book early enough you may be lucky and snap up the upstairs room. It probably doesn’t comfortably sit more than 10 – 15 people and by sit, I mean sitting on the ground on pillows. If you’re wondering what type of food the Nepalese Kitchen serves just think along the lines of curry and rice dishes and if that’s what you like you’ll be pleased. I was lucky enough to be in a group which ordered the banquet so I got to sample many things. It was the first time I’d tried a goat curry and I was impressed. A feast of food, sitting on the ground and some BYO wine all adds up to a fun night to be had!

The Nepalese Kitchen is a favourite of mine and I can say it has made me a fan of Nepalese cuisine. The goat curry is their signature dish and a must try. I ate here with my boyfriend last week and we ordered Momo(dumplings) as an entrée, the goat curry with rice and some pappadums and steamed greens. The cost was $ 50 in total, which is so reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. The one thing to say about the experience at The Nepalese Kitchen is that it is always so full you can feel as if the restaurant is packed in like sardines. There is basically the space as wide as corridor to move around in and people are always bumping your chair. That said, it is part of the experience and the charm of the restaurant.
