S&T Thai is the perfect place for authentic and inexpensive Thai food in Perth. The atmosphere is casual and the venue is always busy and the staff friendly, exactly what you would expect from such a delicious establishment. The menu is extensive and provides a wide variety of options for every taste, leaning towards a more authentic hawkers style. Here you will find your fill of red hot curries, crispy treats and traditional street food. Amongst my favourites are the red duck curry, which features big juicy pieces of delicious skin on duck and refreshing lychees, the green papaya salad which offers those beautiful Thai flavours of sesame, lime and fish sauce we all love and provides a refreshing dish to cut through the chilli and of course the crispy whole fried barramundi which comes smothered in chilli and coriander — absolutely perfectly balanced and to die for! Definitely the best in town.

This place always bring me back to Bangkok hawkers food. It’s quite authentic comparing other Thai restaurant that I’ve had around perth. Let’s start with the atmosphere. It’s very casual, restaurant is always busy, always sending off good vibe. Staff is great and friendly and most of all, they are very responsive and attentive. The food is great, I personally love green curry and they absolutely nailed it! Then again(they ARE Thai). The Tom yum is like«awahhhhh~~~~» I mean, you guys just got to try it to understand«awahhhh~~~~» All in all, personally I would highly recommend it. But don’t expect to be a very classy place, it’s gonna be an hawkers experience!

Well priced, quick service, consistently tasty meals. For those who want authentic Thai. My personal favourite is the Larb(mince with onion, chilli, mint, coriander).

I tried this S&T apon reading all the other wonderful comments about this yummy Thai place. I totally agree, one of the best and well priced in town with great service. One thing I will say though is, they need to learn about mood lightning. We could have filmed a movie in there it was so bright! I will definitely go back there again & would highly recommend.

I’m so glad I convinced(really hard as you know chinese don’t like eating!) a group of cool Unilocalers to try this place with me. I’d seen it on Unilocal and the photos looked quite enticing so I’ve had it book marked for awhile. We shared the duck curry, pad Thai, a kwey tau like dish with beef, a whole fish, chicken and cashew and rice.(I think that was all) my favs were the duck curry and the chicken with cashew nuts — both a must try if u go! The service was quite good considering how busy they were. There was a call button as well as a waiter and water button. I’m glad we booked as it was so busy. Excellent Thai and I would love to try it again :)

Looking at the reviews before heading here for dinner on a Sunday evening I had high expectations. Sometimes I think that can be a bit of a detriment at times! S&T Thai on William Street is a cheap and cheerful and unassuming Thai restaurant. Yep the prices are pretty good, the décor is nothing to write home about and the service was friendly and efficient. We ordered the Red Duck Curry(I can never go past a red duck curry when I see it on the menu) and the Papaya Salad. The Red Duck Curry had that spicy Thai chilli kick that you usually only get when you actually go to Thailand. Love that heat and that’s when you know you’re eating a good Thai meal. It was delicious. The papaya salad unfortunately was a let down. I’m not sure if the papaya was a little old or what it was, but it smelt a bit funky and that put me off completely. The salad lacked that delicious balance of heat, sweet and sour that the dish is renowned for. Looking at photos that other reviewers have added I’d like to give S&T Thai another go and order some other dishes to get a taste for their range of Thai food.

The verdict on this place was in long before I arrived, but I’ll join the chorus of positive reviews. This place has excellent Thai food, and the best papaya salad that I’ve had to date. Portion sizes are fairly generous, and everything is reasonably priced. The Thai iced-tea is also very good, and pretty much identical to what I used to get at Ploy II back in San Francisco. Which is a good thing. There was no problem getting a table when I was here, though I did arrive a bit on the early side of things. The restaurant was starting to fill up by the time I left(a little before 7:00 pm). I’d like to have been able to try a few more different dishes, so I’ll just have to arrange a return visit at some point.

Great service, the staff were prompt, friendly and very helpful with our little one(toddler). I love the push button for service machine in the table, we hit for water and had it on table within minutes. They passed the Fish Cake test with flying colours, fresh, flavoursome and popular with the whole table including the little one. We had three mains red duck curry, pad Thai with beef and Pad Bai Grapow. Plenty of chilli, fresh, tasty. S&T would be great for a big table. At this price point it’s a great spot. The best in town for Thai? Not yet, but great value and service.

I will advise you to book before coming to S & T because the food is so delicious that it is often very busy! The iced tea is delightfully different. The dishes are packed full of flavour and feature a variety of different textures. On Wednesday we had a tangy Chicken Penang Curry, Crispy Oyster Omelette and a juicy Garlic Pepper seafood dish. My mouth was actually having a party at S & T and I would return again because each dish was reasonably priced and as tasty as you could imagine.

S & T is a cheap, tasty Thai place that packs a punch. Me likey. I’m a massive fan of spicy food and this is the first Thai place I’ve tried that brings on the heat. It’s not unbearable, but just the right amount of kick. What I love about S & T: 1.) The service. The girls who seated us and took our order were just so lovely, prompt and always smiling. It really makes a meal enjoyable. 2.) The Pad Thai with prawns. With the right amount of spice and great depth of flavor, this dish was the star for me. 3.) BYO! Bring all the wine! 4.) Portion size. Jesus. I normally don’t say ginormous but some of those plates were ginormous. I had to unbutton the top part of my jeans. Occupational hazard of a food eater. It happens. What I don’t like about S & T: 1.) The curries. While they aren’t terrible, they are just okay. I’ve had much better around town. Despite that small gripe, S & T is a great restaurant. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of the other dishes they offer!

Rolled up for a UYE event and first thing I will say about this place is heed to the given hotness warning about the food from Claire H.‘s review a couple down. Even the mild dishes pack a punch. I had a mild dish and felt a fair kick but that is me. Aside from that the food was presently lovely and was simply delicious and by the look of how packed the place got plenty of people know about this place so perhaps book ahead. Good food, great company

I finally got to S & T, and I was not disappointed. I had pretty high hopes after a Thai friend advised it was one of the best in town. Our table ordered a ton of dishes, so I tried the seafood pad Thai, the green chicken curry and the red duck curry. All were good. The seafood in the pad Thai was of a higher level of quality than you would expect from a cheap Thai restaurant. The red duck curry was the more flavoursome of the 2 curries and had whole lychees and chunks of pineapple throughout. The green curry, though quite hot, could have packed a more flavoursome punch. I tried some of their pancakes, and not sure whether it was me, but didn’t enjoy them much. Interior design is pretty much non-existent but that’s not why you’re there. The service was awesome, the prices were great and it’s BYO — yippi-yi-yo.

Great Thai– fresh and very spicy!!! They don’t hold back on the spices here. Curries can get very hot. Pad Thai possibly the best I’ve ever had!

After consulting Unilocal for the best Thai, it was clearly pointing to S&T. A friend and I made plans to work it out. We knew about the popularity so we made it an early dinner. We were seated right away and good thing because within 30 minutes the place was full. The interior is very casual and kinda odd because it seemed the dining room and the kitchen were about the same size. Weird. We ordered the standard bearing Tom Yum soup and papaya salad to start and followed it up with some green curry and a beef dish whose name escapes me right now. Needless to say the food was outstanding and the price was cheap by Perth standards! All dishes were of the spice level I expected and were very flavorful. The Tom Yum and the papaya salad were some of the best I’ve ever had. The service was efficient and very friendly. On the table, there is a small device to request service or water. How ingenious. Overall, this is the standard bearer for Thai in Perth. If you want Thai, skip all the other perpetrators and go here. Stay sexy my friends!

Finally got in to S&T Thai last night after seeing a show at the Fringe. You have to be in before 8:30pm as the kitchen takes last orders at 8:45pm(even on Fridays). The food is fast and plentiful. We ordered the ubiquitous Thai Green Curry and asked for it to be hot. It was. Fantastic. We also ordered the entrée prawns on a stick with a sticky warm spicy sauce. The prawns were cooked perfectly. Nice, plump and fresh as. The fried tofu was disappointingly bland(thought it might come with a slightly spicy coating, but it was completely plain) but the little dish of spicy sauce with crushed peanuts and fresh coriander was delicious. I’m a little spoiled as I have a Thai girl friend who is a fantastic cook. So I give it three if I compare with the spectacular dishes she makes(and she is not a trained cook/chef). If you don’t have the same luxury, you might score this place higher. Two entrees, one main, rice and iced tea came to $ 50.

Really great thai! We had the penang chicken curry, delicious and medium in heat for two big curry eaters. Also the seafood in pepper and garlic was delicious, and more importantly they aren’t stingy with the seafood portion. and some of the biggest mussels ive eaten! And as Claire mentioned in a previous review, you must have their thai milk iced tea. a perfect way to end the heat with a treat.

Alas! I found my Thai place! Local(i.e. walking distance), inexpensive, good food, clean and… And… AND… they have such a nifty device that completely enhances your dining experience. Let me tell you more. How many times have you sat through dinner trying to get the eye of your waiter? And, they ignore you just to spite you! Whether it be for more water, to order an extra dish, or perhaps even get the bill… Well, the issue is now resolved! And, how a small restaurant like Thai Gourmet Garden is the first place(I’ve seen) to implement it, I have no idea! Think of like a small pager for your table. You push one of the buttons– call, bill, water– and it lets your server know through their watch. Yes! Can I get an Amen!?! I am seriously beside myself of the functionality of this device! Also, one other advanced-thinking from Thai Gourmet… picture-book menus! For those out there that don’t speak Thai, let alone unfamiliar with Thai cuisine… search no further! I could argue that the pictures could use a bit of Photoshopping-refine-ness, but I’m not going to make mountains out of molehills here. It was super easy to order and there was no mystery surprise like I’ve encountered in the past(from other Asian restaurants down William Street). The food was exceptional, to the point that my partner and I were arguing over who got the leftovers. And, I don’t even eat leftovers! The sticky rice reminded him of exactly what it tasted like in Thailand. I literally had to hide my fork to stop myself from eating more of the pineapple fried rice with pork. And, there was one sliver of bbq meat left for our take-out. Last but not least, I’ve been searching for a particular beverage since I’ve arrived on this island. Thai Tea! If you’ve never had this milky-orangey goodness, I urge you to try it. I use to be able to find it at bubble tea places and have yet to find it here until Thai Gourmet entered my life. I imagine I’ll be stopping by even more frequently with having my favorite drink!

WARNING: The food here is hot, like really hot. Seriously, don’t try and be a hero and ask for extra hot and think you will be fine. You’re not invincible, mate. Your eyes will water, your nose will run and your mouth will sting. Mild = 2 chillies, Hot = 4 chillies. You’ve been cautioned. Recommendation for lovers of spiciness: — Jungle curry — YUM! Recommendation for milder tongues: — Penang Curry Recommendations for all: — Thai Ice Tea with milk — beautiful Don’t let my spicy warning deter you, the food is absolutely delicious, fresh, authentic and cheap! I’ll be back for certain… just got to remember to BYO milk next time.
