BEEFRENDANG Seriously, just shut up and get it already. Oh, everything else was good too(very fresh and nice Gado Gado), but the Rendang was king.

Busy place where the noise is probably too loud for me. I like to be able to hear my friends around the table without us having to shout. It’s mostly due to the number of tables within the place and a screaming kid who appeared to be ignored by her parents despite the discomfort to other diners. So onto the food. Only a few people had entrees and we’re happy with them.(I was not one of them). I found very limited choice for my taste. You can see from the pics the main sizes were huge. Most of us left some on our plates. The chicken was nice, the rice a little gluggy. Roti was okay.

Amongst the restaurants serving modern European cuisine, Monk and Me has done really well in Camberwell and Hawthorn. Serving up spicy Malaysian cuisine to loyal clientele, Monk and Me has been able to firmly install itself in the Camberwell junction scene and compete with the other venues along the strip. I am always a sucker for Malaysian food so if I’m ever on my way to see a movie at the Rivoli I make sure that I stop of here for a quick dinner or lunch. My favourites include the curry laksa($ 14.50) with chicken in the spicy coconut soup, the honey soy duck($ 24.50) and the char kway teow($ 14.50). Monk and Me is a great place to go with a couple of friends so you can share some plates and sample different curries and stir-fries. The service is always friendly and pretty efficient when the restaurant gets crowded. Monk and Me also have a wine list and seems pretty child friendly.
