This restaurant delivers! I have never tasted Southern Indian food as exquisite as this in the Sydney area. From entrée to mains(and including sides) each of the dishes we ordered were delicious and plentiful. The presentation of each dish was excellent as well. Not to mention the manager and wait staff — we couldn’t fault their customer service. Without a doubt I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

When i first came to Sydney my husband decided that Darbar would be the South indian/North indian fine dining experience we would enjoy. And they hit bull’s eye at making us feel like the luxurious indian ambience we needed. I loved the fact that it was romantic yet family friendly! The food we had ordered were not the usual ordinary dishes we always wanted we went for the traditional south indian style and somehow they missed the mark. Only complaint the curry dishes missed some spice and zest in the flavour palate. But since their patrons all consisted mostly of non spice eaters i suppose they tweeked all their flavours for that reason. Maybe go on special occasions.

The butter chicken is the best I’ve ever had. But make sure you start with Darbar Chat. Unfortunately service was a little slow on a Sunday night.

This was the first Indian restaurant I have ever been too. It was great! I had the Spiced soft shell crab and got to try the lamb chop, both tasted amazing. Came here with a lot for a friends birthday they easily accommodate the large numbers.

You’ll be transported when you walk through the front doors to this historic wine cellar home. Stone walls and pillars create dark ambiance and relaxation. Staff are helpful and nice from all my visits. The fish makhni is our go to curry(must try) and their spinach chaat is really tasty. Great for work gatherings or nice family gatherings.

I’ve given this place a fair go, been there 3 times but still not impressed. Curries are good but nothing memorable, a bit lacking in flavour, it’s missing something. The place is dark and service is poor.

So here’s the deal. The food is amazing, but the service is not the best and pretty slow. If you can handle the wait it is worth it. The gutti vanki is an eggplant dish to die for.

I remember the building that Darbar is in as being Darling Mills, so it was a surprise when I discovered that after many years it had changed into an Indian restaurant. I was with a friend and we fancied Indian for dinner so off we trotted to Darbar. At six o’clock we were the first ones to arrive and they were still setting up. They showed us to seats next to a window at the front of the restaurant and then ignored us whilst they finished setting up, folding napkins and making a lot of noise out in the kitchen. Finally when we were going to get up and leave, one of the young waitresses came over and offered us a menu. We ordered a selection of meals and two glasses of wine. She brought back a bottle and left it on the table — we were in a quandary, was the whole bottle for us as we had ordered just two glasses. Then the food started coming, so did the customers. The food was fantastic, the skillful use of just enough chilli where it was needed, the aromatic flavours and the number of dishes — we kept asking if all the food was for us, we were told the extra dishes were accompaniments to the dishes. Like two little buddhas we ate until we could eat no more.- which was fortunate as the dessert came and it was awful but we didn’t care. We left it and said that we had eaten too much food. By the time we left, the restaurant was full and there were people waiting in a kind of holding area. The only thing I would say is that they don’t sweep the floor often enough because beneath my chair was a piece of broken glass and a fair bit of dirt. But I will go back, broken glass notwithstanding. And the wine… we drank the bottle.
