Japan City Eat Street

Great selection of Japanese food dishes. And of course one must try the sake bar! Probably a bit overpriced but otherwise the place is one should visit when in Chatswood

Located next to the movie theater in the Chatswood Westfield, Japan City is just that– a mini mall city full of Japanese products and culture. We didn’t get to walk around the shops inside as we were just grabbing a bite before seeing Les Miserables, but they were having a great sale, 40% off!
After walking through our options of sushi, noodles, teppanyaki– we decided on the noodle bar for some udon. I ordered the seafood udon and the boyfriend had the veggie tempura udon. Both were delicious! There was plenty of seafood in my dish and the broth was savory, not too salty and really hit the spot. I would love to come back to shop and try some of the other options

I have seen Japan City’s «Eat Street» before and have always wanted to try it out. I was curious about the idea of having 5 mini-​restaurants all in one area. The five options are (from enterance to back of store): Desserts, Teppanyaki, Soba (noodles/​udon), Tempura, and Sushi. The concept is that you check out the menu, go to the relevant «station» and order & pay for your meal. You are handed a buzzer and it’ll go off when its ready for collection. The preparation/​cooking time is quite quick-​reasonable.
The first thing I’ll say is the portion sizes for the mains are LARGE! so beware ordering as many yummy things as we did.
We ordered a selection from 3 different stations (Soba, Tempura & Sushi) and were very impressed with the entire experience. From the Soba area my gf ordered the Nabeyaki udon ($ 16.90) which was a massive portion (see photo) and was quite tasty.
From the Tempura station I ordered the [big] Chicken Katsu Curry set (comes with a salad & miso — ~$ 13.90) and an order of Agedashi Tofu ($ 6.90). The curry was fine/​good, a pretty typical curry don item. The Agedashi Tofu was excellent. I like to think of myself as a bit of a connoisseur and I would rate it as ⁹⁄₁₀. It was a generous portion, the coating/​tofu texture was perfect and there was ample tasty sauce. The only problem is that I had to go hunting for a spoon to enjoy the sauce… but I was able to find one in the dessert area.
From the Sushi station my gf ordered Salmon Sashimi and a «Spicy King Tuna Roll». Both were described as «excellent quality». Considering the Japanese restaurants we frequent in Sydney — this is high praise.
I think we have discovered another great Japanese restaurant in Chatswood and I would definitely go back again or bring my friends and then catch a movie at the Hotys next door.
